I think this could be a very interesting feature. Basically the Forumies can "approve" some threads (like 3 or 5) and put it in Profile. I know looking at other people's profile is not something too common however it's easier with friends, famous forumies (like AK, gamer...etc) when you check online date, posts or PM them.

With this system I think we can make Artist section better (non Artist never ever go there), or RP section or even Unofficial Contests and Games part, making used of Tag thread (like Let's Party Thread in AQW tent to get missed), Clan Page! (I really like this idea because of this) or your own guide.

Technically it's like "Homepage" things but limited in AE Forum so less spam, also you can have multi threads at once

 A profile is a bit too passive for advertisement to be effective (as you yourself point out). I'd think that, instead, signatures are ideal for this purpose. In fact, they already are used like this. Links can be and are embedded in tags or given straightforwardly. As long as they conform to the rules, they're a much more active, customisable way of sharing these kinds of threads. Even if you don't want to actively promote a thread in your posts, you can just leave your signature sitting in your profile.
