So after playing this game since the merge, I've seen the good and the bad when it comes to gameplay and sportsmanship. Here are my observations:

1) In most cases, saying "gg" is advisable and considered to be good sportsmanship.

2) If you boost against your opponent, despite having an inherent and significant advantage (such as being a higher level or being a Varium player fighting a non Varium player), and therefore win the battle, it is not a good game and the term "gg" should not be used.

3) Saying "gg" in the situation above makes the person both rude and naive. Stay away from it as much as possible.

4) Begging for Fame (especially in at Oz 6) generally just serves to annoy people. Unless you are good friends with that person, avoid Fame begging.

5) In 2v2, when someone's partner leaves (and you're on the other team), it's rude to go defensive at that point (i.e., switching Hybrid Armor, boosting, or using Technician, Reflex, or Matrix). In a 2v1, delaying the inevitable is rude.

6) If you need a good role model, hang around Oz World 6 and look for JZaanu or FayBee. Observe their interactions with other players. Emulate if you can.

7) Familiarize yourself with the image of Founder Armor in the Epic Duel Wiki (epicduelwiki.com) so you can compliment players who still wear it.

8) If someone agrees to help you in a 2v1 Boss battle, be nice and thank them---no matter whether you win or lose.

9) If you ask for Build help and someone agrees, be patient; don't just expect the exact stats and an instant KO build.

10) If you ask for build help and someone tries to explain how to make a build, rather than just giving you your stats, understand that they're doing you a favor by increasing your ED knowledge base.

11) *Added due to majority's input*: Don't call people names, eveniftheyareatacmercanddeserveit especially the word "noob."

Feel free to add your own!

Best to say "Good luck" before a match. Never hurts to say it (though Goldslayer1 might disagree otherwise), and most of the time results in some friendly banter between the two players.

Also, don't call others noobs. Everytime I've been in a 2v2, and my partner notices that I have full var, and instantly exclaims "WE WIN NOOBS". I quit the match. Now that might not be fair sportsmanship, but calling people noobs is completely disgusting.

Ditto whatever Frogbones said :D

I disagree with delaying the 2v2 match. I have actually won before because of that, so it's not entirely useless. I agree with everything else though.

@Frost:

The post about delaying the inevitable was for the team with TWO players, not at the team with just one. The team with two should not go defensive...

@frog: Yes they should if that's what they need to do in order to win. Other than #5 I agree with the post.

I disagree with #2,3, and 5. Your saying that if I use a booster in a battle against someone who is not a Tac Merc and I win and say "gg" that is considered rude and naive? How? Can you explain that to me? Because if you and your opponent do have a game match and you say "gg" how is that rude and childish?

And about number 5. That is not rude. Infact I won many times due to that. It isn't always the inevitable when its 2vs1 not when your partner is a noob/weak and your opponent is a lvl 34 fully equipped/enhanced beast. Sometimes going defensive is neccasary.

@carabuno That is why it is called the "Unofficial Guide to Good Sportsmanship in ED" because it is not official or 100% true at all. Their are a few things I and many others disagree with.

Ok i dont like when people say gg when they do 2 blocks 1 crit and 1 deflect.
11:if u see someone factionless and ur fac is not active it can be good to add it to the faction to help exile side Pwn the legion side, and to help him get more fun.

@Isaiah:

While there may be instances when going defensive in a 2v1 is truly needed, 9/10 times it is not necessary. I'm speaking generally here.

As for numbers 2 and 3, the position of many here on the forum is that Tac Mercs have an inherent upperhand in every battle because they are using a class that is widely considered overpowered.

So when a Tac Merc boosts and wins because of it (in a 34 vs 34 "fair" fight), many people think it was most definitely not a good game. Then when they throw a "gg" in at the end, it shows how detached from reality they are (hence the word "naive").

1)Dont try to look like a happy person everytime to everyone(Act like what you want , how you feel , you cant be happy everytime so stop pretending)

2)Dont say "gg" after every match it loses its meaning when you say it everytime(if your oponent did 3 crit 2 block 1 deflext than thats not a "gg" so dont say)("gg" is not equal to "bb" or "cya")

3)If someone ask you a logical question about game knowledge than answer it if you know.

4)If someone say a good thing about you than say "thx" , if someone say a bad word to you than ignore them dont fight back.(they say bad things cause they are jealous and they also aware that they are noob)

5)Just because you are a varium player doesnt mean you are better than non variums, dont forget that

I remember these for now

i disagree frogbones 2), 3), 5) They are not related with Sportmanship

I agree with all the sportsmanship rules except for number 2 and 3. Saying good game after a fight that could be considered unfair could be taken different ways. Some just see it as the upperhand player trying to be polite, while others could see it as rubbing it in that they won.

I would change rules 2,3, and 4 to say something besides gg or gf(which you should never say because some people confuse it for girlfriend) when the game was not close. Maybe like Turkishincubus said you could say bb or cya or gl next time.

I only agree with number four, you can't tell everyone what they should do just because you say so, please don't take that
in an offensive way just saying thats what it seems like you're doing. Fame should dissapear altogether because it is irritating
hearing players ask for fame everywhere you go. If players choose to be rude, offensive, arrogant, naive etc. That is their decision, when it happens
all you can do is ask them to stop, if they don't well report them simple as that.

Um, Dunk, of course people can say whatever they want. That's the purpose of this thread: To advise people about what to say or not say. ;)

My goals in making it were to 1) help people understand that sportsmanship does exist in an online game and 2) to give them examples of what is considered good and bad sportsmanship.

To be honest, i don't see why we have to do that. All it does is ego boost.

One more thing, if you beat a Tac Merc, or anyone else for that matter, be a humble winner - don't say mean things like "fail" or "loser". Am I right, Merv?

I suppose i'll say the obvious. Don't say "noob" to someone if they beat you fairly, or if you beat them unfairly. It's just plain rude.
Don't ask for varium (this is against the rules as well as annoying)
Don't smexualy harass people you think are girls for two reasons. One: it's rude and disgusting. Two, they might not be real girls.
Don't say the word "smexualy" while posting. Wait... oops. D:
Don't go chasing waterfalls....

Those are all that i could think of in 20 seconds.
