can you make links different colors besides blue?

I believe not since the link color depends upon the Forum Homepage style that you are using. Your Homepage theme must be gray with all headings blue.

Try changing the theme in the profile settings to a different one. For example, the theme I use shows all the links to be red colored.

You can do that if you put the color tags inside the link tags like this:
This is a link

and here is the code for the above:
