Love Sonnet
I felt my life pouring away like sand,
No matter how quickly I gather it,
There is a constant trickle through my hand,
Till I crumple in the hot dust and cry,
I felt my dreams clinging fast like moonbeams,
Turning my head and making me dizzy,
Yet when I try to pull them close they buck,
And cavort, twisting and prancing away.
I felt my body, my soft shell, betray me,
Cramping and seizing up for no reason,
No hot knives causing the pain in me,
No rack to torture me and to break me.
You alone can keep at bay my madness,
Drive far away the eternal sadness.

Sonnet for Friday 13th
Ships are wrecked in malicious waves,
Dashed headlong onto cruel rocks,
Masts and ropes once so strong and proud,
Are snapped and crushed like bone under a tiger's jaw.
Hearts are broken by our cruel loves,
Trust and friendship are soured to hatred,
In a few hurtful words.
And we are left with wounds that will never heal.
Innocent people are hanged unjustly,
Lies and slander sully their names forever,
They die shouting and screaming:
'I didn't do it, I didn't do it!'
Young children die like old men,
Coughing and hacking,
And throwing up blood,
While their mothers, powerless, sob.
Wars rage between old allies,
Homes are burned,
The fields are salted,
And the people tortured and killed.
When the black clouds and the storm have passed,
A new day rises, golden and fresh,
And the old one seems like a dream: half remembered but half forgotten.
