Like what is it as a substance? We all know we can use it for everything but what is it? Is it akin to the Melange from Dune? Where do they mine it?

Mined in the infernal mines,

An expensive and rare diamond used as a currency or used to make extra powerful weapons/machines/items.

Most of this currency is used along with credits which are a count of different deed you have done/fights you have won, these can also be used to buy items on their own however these items are weak in comparison to varium funded items.

This varium is one reason why ebilcorp wants epicduel.

Back to actual reasoning... varium in nature is some mythical compound (a crystal) made of some mythical element that we call varium element. Varium is radioactive, as radioactive as uranium in a natural state. Varium releases unmatched quantities of energy that can be used to power machinery. Varium works like battery cells, a node and anti-node can be joined by a circuit to flow energy through a conductive wire into an output. For energy weapons in EpicDuel, that output can be a conductive blade or a resistor that charges the metal to be either hot... or charged with electrons, ready to jump, causing a shock of static or dynamic proportions depending on the flow (amperage) of electrons or where the electricity enters. If it enters your brain you might lose memory or potentially die due to failure to communicate nervous message throughout the body... stopping the lungs or heart from working for example.

Varium in a solid state, varium-187 + varium-185 for example (187 and 185 electrons per atom... respectively), excites the pleasure cortex of our brains, and as been stated known to cause varium addiction, causing sufferers to feel the need to ingest or touch varium for satisfaction.

I wish this helps. I made up the properties myself though.

Edit: I had almost forgotten, I said varium was radioactive. Varium releases a large amount of energy because it is radioactive. This means that the varium atom (the most smallest form of varium) is breaking down into smaller more stable atoms that are not radioactive such as carbon or silver for example. The atoms decay by gamma decay, wherein the atom releases electrons and neutrons at the same time causing the unstable atom to fall apart. I won't talk about subatomic particles since they are not relevant to varium discussion, but that is how varium is energized and radioactive.

quote:

Varium is a unique element with the properties of a metal and the qualities of a living organism. Unlike the metals found on the periodic table, Varium “grows” in a fashion similar to plants, it’s molecular structure going through a bizarre synthesis to replicate and increase in size and volume. It would appear that heat is the catalyst for growth, but Varium’s mysteries are far from being entirely unraveled. The most that can be said for this strange and desirable metal is that it is extraordinarily versatile and thusly yields value with no foreseeable ceiling.

Officially that is Varium

It sounds cool but makes no sense. Just like how it "replicates" itself. Any physics follower knows an element cannot influence self-reproduction. To do that, an atom would have to either instigate fusion or fission of different elements... since creating matter requires the energy of a dust cloud (space debris) swirling to collapse on itself due to a gravitational pull that particles exert on other particles via gluons. I should stop here, but varium should be taken seriously if you want to be logical about it. Even Resident Evil can be logical (more so than here on occasion).

@owa
If only varium grew in our inventory then.

@Depressed Void but can a plant or an animal not replicate cells to expand in size? Is cancer nothing more then the uncontrolled replication of cells?

If you do not study up on biology the answer to both is yes. So by Varium being an element with organic qualities it makes sense that it should be able to replicate itself to grow, once you get past the point of it being an element that acts like a living thing but hey the universe is full of all sorts of strange things we cannot understand.

@Mr Black OP think of it like a plant once it is harvested it stops growing but unlike a plant it will not die once it has been harvested

Animal cells, plant cells, they both duplicate by themselves after given fuel. This could be the energy from glucose. 1 ≠ (suddenly) 1 + 1

1 + 1 (mass and energy from fuel) = 1 + 1

That being the mass of the cell with nutrition providing enough energy for mitosis. 1 cell by itself does not reproduce infinitely. This applies to particles as well. Hydrogen (protons) does not suddenly become hydrogen and hydrogen. To do that, a cosmic cloud would have to form a star from massive amounts of gravitational energy!

its a load of pixels that we spend money on to buy more pixels in game ;)

@Depressed Void we got two, or is it three, suns around this planet letting off who knows what kind of radiation that the Varium could absorb to use as energy to grow.

But the real question I just thought of is why are we trying to rationalize this? If the game follows it's own laws of physics let it follow them

Thing is Big Tuna tried to take a literal/realistic approach to justifying EpicDuel when it matters with sci-fi. I can support Big Tuna on his side of explaining how things work. Fantasy anyone can make up, and let them to their devices.
