So I've been thinking about this a bit and thought that perhaps it'll help budding authors who are new to writing.

What I am talking about is a Mentoring System where a team of veteran authors apply as Mentors and take assignments to teach Applying Authors the art of writing stories/poems/ballads/short stories etc.

Guys like .Discipline, Elryn, Mritha, Faerdin, Helixi, Lordkaho, Dwelling Dragonlord, Glaisaurus_x, Razen to name a few out of my mind can surely help.(Not considering many Mods, Head Mods etc.)

What do you think?

The idea is interesting, if we can keep it up. Although, we'd need, well, a stock full of writers for it to work. I like the concept, a lot, I really do, and I would certainly enjoy to see it aspire. I also realize that it will likely be difficult to manage due to a lack of "veteran" writers.

We'd need Eukara's backing and vigilance upon us for it, that's for certain. Albeit, should we try this, then we'd need to divide it up reasonably, like say me and Dwelling take so & so part, and LK & Glai take dialogue, etc. Not to say that is how we would split it, rather just an example to get the gist of it, y'know? In all seriousness, Dwelling likely would serve best as the "Grammar Police" of this proposed setup.

Though, another bit of food for thought, instead of trying to try an assistance workshop(Which would require a huge amount of effort on our part), perhaps instead there could be relatively short guides on the major matters of writing a L&L? Like, "What types of characteristics for your characters to avoid and which one's for which", "Plot Structures to try to avoid", or "General Guide to Grammar".

Off-topic: Mordred was somewhat irked that you had skimped him out whenever you edited me in. :P By the way, PM me on how you saw that.

@Razen, Glad that you agree with me.
Well, we could have an Application Thread of sorts where aspiring mentors can apply. Following a short stint of background and experience checking, the applicants can then be approved and be given the Rank of Mentors. Each mentor can take under his wing around 2-3 new writers and tutor them in the art.

Of course, if we have Mentors with fields of specializations, the authors in-training can be rotated under each mentor, at their discretion of course.

I am not saying that the Pseudo-Guide idea can't work. It's just that Mentoring/Tutoring requires a strong, hands-on approach to prove effective.

What say?

Okay, firstly, I am really sorry if I have in any way offended you, Mordred. It's just that I was going to write in Razen's name originally but for some reason, your name came to mind.

Let me tell you that whenever I think of Razen's or your name, the following list comes to mind:

Mordred-Razen-Highlord Sendai-Shinobi Shadowmaster.

Strange? Well, sorry.

Again, I should've added Razen's name alongside yours but I guess I wasn't thinking clearly. I apologise profusely.

If you want, I can add it in again.

Well, it's that strong, hands-on approach that is why the Mentoring would prove difficult, as activity in the L&L has...been shaky, to say the least. Though, the idea of Mentors in specializations likely would serve the best. Like for example, Mordred, would be an excellent Tutor for detail and describing the scenery and dialogue.

As is evident from his Story, the Tales of Mordred I think it was called? :S

Well, it's been a trying time for the L&L seeing as December bombards us with celebrations, events, occasions and consequently, wars. Naturally, our mods do deserve an year-end break.

But yeah, Hard Work needs to be put in.

There will be no mentoring system in L&L.

As far as I know, no one in this forum has the qualifications to be a teacher besides me. Teaching people to write is not an easy endeavour and is better done person to person, in reality not online. I have AKs who are proficient in helping, who know how to write, but they will all tell you that they are not teachers. They are helpers. They are people who know enough to give hints and such, but they are not teachers.

To be a real teacher, you must be trained to understand the writer in all aspects of who they are. Their lives, their opinions, their personalities, their desires and needs, their true ability levels. As a teacher you have to be willing to not thrust your own styles on others, and quite frankly, most people I see give commentary do just that. Unless anyone here has a degree in teaching, especially in teaching lit and writing, no one is qualified to teach anyone anything.

The mandatory commentary threads are where people are supposed to be giving feedback. That is the only place where this will take place. That is the point to the commentary threads. If you really want to help people out, you should be visiting those and doing your thing there. Not asking to set up yet another stratosphere of ranking and community division. Stop using that word! It throws me off when I'm trying to search for people talking about me!

And, Arthur, I already told you the Critiquer's Corner will be set up after the holidays. If people cannot be patient enough to wait for that, then those people have already failed as teachers. The Critiquer's Corner will be opened, and people who want to have someone help them will ask for it. THAT is as far as it will go. Once the request is fulfilled, that is it.

Because the mentoring system will not be implemented, this thread will be locked.
