There Was Also A Lot Of Hope And Faith In Both The Promises And Potential Growth Of The Game To Come.

Yes, people were much more hopeful and didn't complain or rage as much because the expectations for a game that is in beta testing are lower. However, Epicduel has gone through Gamma, Delta, and now Omega and the game isn't getting much better, while people have higher expectations for the game because they made such a big deal about Omega.

beta was great like said in this post players knew what a faction really was. in beta noob was a word not used that much at all.

when builds won the game, mods did play ( devs titan, night palyed in the game ), in beating a boss took skill not LUCK. faction wars prove which faction could play ed.

faction would gather the their group the night before and say we are going for the 1v1 or 2v2 for the whole day which means 24 hours of game play.

during the game players would talk nice to each other not trash talking like the younger players do now.

and some factions had it if you won so many games you could become a officer in the faction. which was nice, not like now which any one can be a officer.

people knew which faction rocked. faction leaders , players knew who they were. their was 5 top factions in those days, players would say wow you belong to that faction any room for me.

faction players helped each other in the faction with builds battle action how to use the built so it would win. not like now.
ed had in own forum not sharing it with any other game. you could post ss , builds, give grats to other players, l miss the old forum.
the good old days of ed. the players were better, was nothing to talked to other players about man what build did you use to be the old bosses.

just my thoughts on this.
ps other player really cannot say anything about the old days if have not been there. you had to be their to see what was lost in this game.

always the syfy

Legendary AK!!!

The beta I remember was scary. Varium vs non varium was pure torture. Founder vs non founder varium was just as bad. Frostbane was way powerful but Founder armor was worse. That armor was lvl 25 but was better than any lvl 25 armor, lvl 28 armor and only lost to the lvl 30 BigTuna armors because they had more defenses but less stats.

In-game, the players were more chatty but only so they could hurl insults at you for paying for varium or being a "noob class" or using a "noob build." If you lost, you just got called noob outright. The forums were more chatty, but just as rude as people in-game. The community was way less patient than it is nowadays. One day late on the release and everyone was mad, even though ED never once promised weekly releases for the players.

As for creativity and build diversity...Well, that was only because, like Xendran stated, there was a 98% win rate build out there if you were skilled enough to make and use it, and everyone and their dogs were determined to find the rock to the scissors. It never happened. Support BHs worked until it turned out the rock was actually paper and TMs learned how to counter their counter. It took Agility devastating high health builds and removing the scaling and increasing the CD on Field Medic to finally put the nail into the coffin(until Delta came along with TLMs being able to tank and restore energy until they could heal again but that's a different story and not dealing with Beta).

Beta was fun only because everyone was trying to learn the game and try out builds until they got a good one. And eventually we found the best one and the game became a crack the code to find the counter or keep making suggestions on how to nerf heal loop without breaking Field Medic for every class. We've made a lot of progress since then and I'm eager to see how much we have to look forward to still.

@Xendran
Frostbane was THE weapon to have. Completely broken.

I played in Beta, I was a complete noob. I think I went negative in W/L during the entire phase. But I still played and had a ton of fun. I found friends, talked to lots of people, and had a good time. I also bought some varium, but there wasn't to much of a difference until later Beta/Gamma+ OWA, for example, went non-varium for a very long time and still did well. The EDF were also quite amazing. When they shut them down, they promised to keep them up as a read-only forum. That was a lie, it disappeared quite fast.

I starting playing in Alpha and quit a little after they introduced the 3 new classes I think. Now I'm trying to get back in it but there's too much stuff and I don't really get it I can say that Beta was extremely fun and in my opinion as someone with multiple characters in different classes was pretty balanced overall class wise while some builds were clearly superior to others.
