i think that the ranks should have more use than just showing off , i think that with ranks people should be able to get a little amount of pts more in stats like this and it will start from fighter since it is the beginning of normal ranks :
Fighter - 2 more stats
Warrior - 3 more stats
Champion - 5 more stats
Hero - 7 more stats
Warlord - 9 more stats
Commander - 11 more stats
Emperor - 13 (12) more stats
Grand Emperor - 15(14) more stats
Legend - 16 more stats
Epic Legend - 18(17) more stats
Eternal Legend - 19 more stats
DemiGod - 20 more stats

it has no value other than a name instead of saying he has 100k + wins you can say he is a legend.

but the main idea opens advantage of old players over new ones which can discourage them.
