I noticed that the block mechanic was removed in Lol quite some time ago(except on Pantheon and a few other circumstances). To think of it, in battles where there are less than 10 turns, having a game-altering luck factor like block doesn't make sense. Currently, it removes 85% of the damage done. That number is way too high. I am not trying to promote strength builds but there should be more ways to counter a strength build that are available for all classes (w/o robots). The magnitude of the effect of a block should be scaled on something, like energy or support because an 85% damage reduction is too much in a match.

What are your thoughts on the block effect.?

I have good and bad feelings.
Good is that it helps against Str/HP abuse builds.
Bad is that it is luck based, may also occur too often and the damage reduction is too high (please note: i don't run a Str build).

Funny thing, i have been thinking about block (and deflect, they are tied together) for quite some time now. Have answered in your Outplay thread earlier this day and mentioned it there.

If I remember correctly Rabble said sometime ago that the staff wanted blocks to have a stronger effect than deflections. With the current state of the game right not the moment blocks go is the moment tank builds crash and burn (Except with merc since they have hybrid armor) and high HP strength builds take over.

Isn't the only tank build that works 5 bonus and dex TM?

I do see dex bounty hunter, Tech Cyber hunter, and a couple of of other tank builds that work as well but they aren't as widely shown as those builds. But still the moment you remove blocks will be the moment those builds get nerfed while strength and HP builds get a buff.

You're talking about builds below level 30 right? Dex bh is definitely unplayable at level 35(unless you are super lucky).

@ edwardvulture

my point is that doing this will once again affect ALL levels not just high levels. When we talk about balance we can just do things for one group of players without thinking about how it will affect another.

A good example of this was when the staff buffed Plasma bolt for lower level players only for them to overpower higher level players.

Yes, I've said that many times myself too. Ofc, the rage rework and the block rework, if they were made, would have to be done together along with the deflection rework. Rage is one of the reasons players usually don't play defensively against strength builds(on the exception that they use a debuff)

I forgot to mention strength/damage.

We almost are at the point that Str/Hp builds are the only viable option.
Agreed: we need to look at many things in combination, instead of just 1 thing (with the possible exception of support and legendary ranks, which can be fixed/balanced separately).
Please excuse me if this sounds arrogant: that is why i avoided giving a lengthy answer here - only working on blocks will only be a balance to dex mage, improve strength, but actually weaken everything else - so we need to look at the stats in general as there are many things to consider, and most of these things are bound together / dependant on each other (for example blocks<->damage).

Yes, more things need to happen at the same time. The removal of passives was a huge boost to strength hp builds indirectly and directly. But at its current state, just one block can win the game.

That can be said for at least the level 35-40 range. I don't know how well it works in other places.

I dont know much but I thought the idea for blocks was that they are risky moves... I remember seeing on ED tips screen something like: use a gun to finish someone off as it is more reliable. If blocks were the same as deflections then why give the sidearm a cooldown?

Blocks aren't and have never been the same as deflections.

The staff already said a while ago they wanted blocks to have more weight on them then deflections. Especially since melee skills that work with strength (Fireball is the exception) Do more damage than fixed damage attacks. If they did that than it would in turn be a nerf to defensive builds while buffing offensive ones that use melee's.
