-gave the same stats as staffs/wristblades/maul/clubs
-have their own different skill for each class

There are a lot of beautiful swords in EpicDuel but I feel like I cannot use them because of their restrictions in battle. Sure they give more stats but as a tech mage, I lose out on 5 our of the 12 skills I have on my skill tree. In contrast, bm's only lose out on 3 skills. It is a huge difference. Also, I have a lot of swords and I keep them only for the looks. I wish there was enough things I can do to customize them so that having the unnecessarily amount of them, like I do, is not actually such a bad thing.

What do you guys think about the current state of swords?

-no reason not to use on some classes
-useless on others

After playing around with the new CH I personally deem them very strong, mainly due to EMP grenade being a direct enegy pool nuke. It's ridiculously strong, even after the painful 1-turn extra CD nerf. And so, being very opinionated:

-The classes/builds which can freely use swords with 0 penalty (BM, CH Focus, BH focus) have really, really good win rates. I wonder why...?

swords are fine. it is all about choice, if you are willing to sacrifice the skills for a few extra point of stats, and techmages have enough available skills that can help them win a battle(i still remember the sword wielding malfunction techmage build)

unless skill requirements are changed in the future(which i think it would not be likely) we would have to stay this way

What you are griping about swords doing is the entire point of swords in the first place. You give up some skills for extra power. Doing this to sword would make them worthless for some classes.

I also have to agree with exploding Penguin seeing as certain classes are already really strong with swords as it is now.

not sure if its still the same these days but dont swords have a hidden increased chance to land a successful strike?

also if you feel you are accumulating too many sweet looking swords might i throw out an idea to the devs in another mmo i play they make all items you can get placeable in homes! this way it clears up some inventory space but you can still look at the sexy things!

@ Zarakii Kenpachi

Only the celtic cleaver has that ability along with weapons with the 2% lucky strike core. Frankly 9 out of every 10 fights I see a strength (insert class here) Using this blade since it nukes block chance by 7 percent.

@ Zarakii Kenpachi sorry but that is not possible, homes have an item placement limit and anything that isn't a home item cannot ever be placed inside it, weapons are staying as weapons

tm the main issue i think with this class is its way to controlled on staff and not allowing sword given 4skills that cant be used by sword. A way to improve this class it currently has 2 physical skills that are effective in terms of dmg. By changeing one of the two to a sword energy drain but no regain in this skill would in terms allow sword users the chance to have more control on their class.

^
this, i think that would help on tm's sword users since the current energy gameplay rarely will u see a bludge and the other physical skill being used both in the same battle.

Hmm I really like this idea,

So what you saying is each class could perhaps be given a new skill to each class witch requires the use of a sword only?

I think the idea is really cool and would definitely open up more variety.

Actually 4 and not 5 skills in the TM skill tree require a staff.
I still agree that the difference is big as Mercenaries have only 2 class weapon (club) skills (Maul, Static Smash).
Tactical Mercenaries only 1: Atom Smasher.
One of the reasons why TMs have the smallest build diversity and lack power.

As it is very hard to balance swords, sword skills and classes it would be the best if swords and
clubs/staffs/blades would be totally equal in damage and stats and that the primary weapon
requirements for skills do get removed. Another option would be to remove all primary weapon
requirements for skills and give swords the +10 damage bonus and class primary weapons
the +5 stat point bonus. However the second option would be a bit unbalanced because damage
is often more powerfull in the higher levels when stats get diminished heavily. In the lower levels
the stat point bonus would be more powerfull.

assilimate, plasma bolt, super charge, overload, and fire scythe.

I would want plasma bolt to become an energy attack with a sword that ignores resistance(or something else) with a cool animation where it looks like a surge of energy went though the sword. That would just be a lot cooler than what it is right now: an unusable skill.

Fire Scythe doesn't have a weapon requirement.

Oh you're right, I just can't use it because it requires 24 support.

Lets take a look at the offensive skills that could be used with a sword:

Blood Mage:
Bludgeon, Mark of Blood, Intimidate, Energy Parasite, Plasma Rain, Plasma Cannon,
= 6 / 4

Mercenary:
Double Strike, Berzerker, Intimidate, Artillery Strike, Surgical Strike, Bunker Buster
= 6 / 3

Tactical Mercenary:
Double Strike, Frenzy, Stun Grenade, Surgical Strike, Artillery Strike, Toxic Grenade
= 6 / 2

Bounty Hunter:
Mark of Blood, Smoke Screen, Static Grenade, Stun Grenade, Multi-Shot
= 5 / 2

Cyber Hunter:
Static Charge, Malfunction, EMP Grenade, Multi-Shot, Plasma Grenade
= 5 / 2

Tech Mage:
Malfunction, Bludgeon, Fire Scythe, Plasma Rain
= 4 / 3

Skills that improve or are related with strenght are marked red.
