The original Frysteland and Infernal Wars weren't like a module that extended the game. Those wars weren't in anyway way easy to recycle. Therefore, once those wars concluded, both the game client's code and the game server's code had to be significantly changed. The implementation of War 2.0 however, has given the developers a set interface to work with. That allows the developers to easily apply the current war like functionality to all alignment based wars. Which of course gives the developers more time to do other things. I'm not a fan of the current mechanics of War 2.0, but I have absolutely no problem with the main ideology of the system itself (easier to create wars, doesn't require significant code changes, works more like a game extending module instead of a dependency, etc.)
