This forum board has a tendency to make up things for no apparent reason. I don't know what people plan to achieve by it, but if there isn't a source on something, I wouldn't believe it.

*Slithers in through the shadows.* Dang it! I really do remember Alina confirming a letter from Artix and Nulgath stating the status of OS where it stands. It was in a thread on the froums. But its like it vanished. Of all the bad luck!

Sorry. I don't check forums very often. Thanks Lore.

Hmm. I thought I remembered someone saying that we would receive it on last Friday. I guess I just thought he would be back by release day. Oh well..

All we can do is wait for the message. There is nothing more to discuss. The plan for OS will probably be outlined in the letter. And of course the one person we are waiting on went out of town.. Who knows when he'll be back.

There aren't staff or releases for us to talk about, what are we supposed to say?
"I hope this game is ever updated again."?

Nulgath was cut back.

If AE feels Nulgath's outlived his usefulness then I feel AE have outlived their own.

AE's only legitimate excuse for "cutting back Nulgath" (who, lest we forget, put their most successful game (AQW) on its legs by contributing the bulk of its initial artwork), would be if AE itself were in jeopardy of going under. I can only conclude that that's what's happening. That being the case, thank you AE for the many years of content. I simply don't believe that this coveted "Omni project" and the mobile games it spawns can save you. Goodbye, adieu, tschüss.

As to what this means for OverSoul, as the game is still under Artix's umbrella my speculation would be that Nulgath wouldn't be able to continue working on it, especially given his words of "I'm not sure who'd be updating it". AE hasn't the staff to spare for OverSoul, they're busy working on Omni. They've emphasized that by firing Nulgath.

Just my two cents, sorry I can't be more positive about this but wrong decisions were made here. Tap-frenzy games in the vein of AQ Dragons aren't as inspired and don't have as much potential as OverSoul. Those won't be enough to sustain the interest of its increasingly impatient and dwindling player base and AE will have to do better, which at this point they've shown little evidence they're capable of.

On the bright side I probably have forever to possess Time Apprentice now.

@Gorillo
Nulgath confirmed it wasn't his decision to leave. Why he was laid off I'll never understand, but the future of Oversoul is practically nonexistent as a result.

Most this information can be found on business websites that track how much companies makes AE was worth over 25million at one point when Artix was offered money for the company. Several big events happen in the last couple years AE putting a lot of money into AQ3D the original over 100k and all that money disappearing once flash stopped supporting it and the biggest games they have like AQW have lost a lot of the money they bring in. Also all the money they have spent on mobile projects hasn't brought as much money as they hoped for. Also a large portion of the AE community has decided to switch to other games like LOL for serveral reason they don't like the dress up style of AQW the community has changed a lot and they think AE only wants money now and several mods have left because they don't like the way the community is treated. Also some of the devs "dage" seem to get a whole lot better treatment then most of the other devs. IDC if you believe me or not but this is information I've gathered since I came back to play AE games and from websites that have former AE exemployees/current saying what they think about the company.

It was stated at one point AQ3D was the game Artix always wanted to make. Which is why I assume he put so much money into the development of it.

Also Nulgath was as big a part of the AE company anymore most of the mobile projects he didn't work on confirmed by post cysero made on twitter when I asked him you can search for them if you want.

I personally guessed Nulgath wouldn't be with the company for much longer though not sure the reason mostly because he's been doing it so long he might of got tired of it and tried new projects such as his side project which he's been very active on twitter with as of lately which was something we never saw with his nulgath twitter account.

Why did AE even invest time into mobile games? The only ones that got super big were one time hits that didn't last very long. No one really even invests money in mobile games so I don't know what they were thinking. The game would need a source of revenue to be worth the time that was put into it. Currently, the majority of gamers are playing things like MOBAs, console games (XBox, Playstation, etc.) and Steam. The most popular mobile games were probably Fruit Ninja, Flappy Bird, and others to that extent. The intent of making a mobile game and actually going through with it is a huge gamble. The chances of it blowing up are extremely low and the chances of it recieving a proper amount of income is only a bit higher.

For the removal of Nulgath, the only reason I could think of is that they are going to put all their faith in AQ3D. I don't know to what extent Nulgath helped with that project, but I'm pretty sure that he didn't. It is obvious that AE has given up on Oversoul as we have not recieved word for months about the continuation. The letter will probably be a shutdown notice. There is no reason for them to continue the game. Basically no revenue is recieved because there have been no updates.

I don't even know what to say anymore to be honest. Oh and I think my original post got deleted but I got no PM. So oh well.

Hopefully a shutdown is not the case. If there ever was a worst-case scenario, OS probably would just end up like WF. Why? people invested money in OS. Okay maybe since OS runs on a server that Nulgath may have had to pay for that's not very likely. Actually considering OS doesn't run like an MMO. And isn't one for that matter, I'm not sure if he had to pay for OS's single server.

Well Nigraz, I don't know if you've been keeping up on the news about the all the browsers getting rid of or soon will be getting rid of flash player because of how easy it is to hack into it, so AE doesn't really have much choice in the matter, except to integrate to unity and do cross platform games. So their not doing that JUST for the money, they just need to keep up competition and evolve, so that they don't become a relic in the past.

In all seriousness a lot of the big games around have been around for years that one game which was split in two with dust something console and something else on PC did horrible on console and continues to be impressive on PC. A lot of the AE games lack anything new though AQW is pretty much just new clothes every weak with no real difference in the enemies that would require any skill to kill. If they decided to do something actually new and not use other game templates they could do something. I personal see a game with all the monster from all of AE being use in a 1 vs 1 combat style game as a good idea. Artix fighting dage vodred with a enhance combat mode vs seppy perhaps etc.

A tv show of sorts for AE. They have the people to build it an animated movie with vodred as the main villian.

MOAB style game would work also asked about a tower defense game since everyone likes a tower game but got a reply saying monkey bloon was to good on the market.

my laptop is messing up so this post could be all messed up.

Could even do a destroy all human syle game with the big monster from games being used to eat grow and destroy.

AE is big enough to stop making browser/flash games and expand to mobile apps. The market here is much less viable anyway, so there's literally no point in dumping all their resources into it.

I feel like OverSoul was such an ill-managed project. Unfortunately, Nulgath adopted the same style AQWorlds had into a game where it wouldn't fit. Card games need to have constant updates/expansions and meta changes - not new characters with recycled decks. Releasing new characters with slightly different decks just makes a pool of OP characters and others which have almost no viability without excessive customization (which is surprisingly limited in OS).

This is also why I think AE will never be able to create a successful MOBA or 3D MMO - because it's a completely different game stlye. It's easy to create the basis of a video game (characters, quests, shops, etc.) but having to create a game that actually adheres to it's style is too much for a company as small as AE. I think they proved themselves here with OverSoul. The fact that they're essentially abandoning the project shows that once a game is not generating enough players, it's useless.

I think I speak for everyone when I say OverSoul had the most potential in all of AE games currently - especially as a mobile game with new cards/expansions. Really surprised no one saw this by now.

If AE laid off employees, then I really hope they're getting ones which are experienced in these new projects. Because hiring more artists and people with little knowledge in gaming is just asking for another OverSoul. :'(

They hired more free workers.

I think AQ3D had a coder hired since no one had any idea who the lead was when he was announced.

Rolith said he wants to make every game mobile but its up to Artix if they go through with it.

I was talking with on of the coders who said they plan to do something with the really old games OS not included to make them function better.

Also had a convo a couple weeks back with the bag head animator for AQ3D who felt all the old games that aren't useful anymore should be shut down not sure if its his opinion alone or the entire AE company though.

My ultimate and honest opinion(s)/view(s) in the OSGD section:

Logic

We have not yet received any news about OS (and I don't think we ever will, as we have been promised many things without fulfillment in the past around here). I & many others don't think anything from this 'letter' will be positive, even if it finally does arrive (let's be honest, all hopes have pretty much died-out years ago and this last devastating blow just made sure that the game has come to an end with Nulgath gone & no alternative till now).

Although it's very sad, it's the ugly truth, and I feel we deserve no more suffering.. all we can do now is simply move on to something else with much more success, and not waste anymore time in-vain, life is way too short and if any game deserves our precious free-time, its surely not any struggling AE game like OS. We can't kick start the game and we have tried everything we could in the past (word of mouth advertising, time and investment) but without AE leaders additional support, it's pretty much useless. All we can say is that "at least we tried our best to support the game, we so loved."

Dependent

All hopes to AQW3D (although I won't play it as I feel insecure in playing any other new AE games), if this ends up terribly, that's when the AE company will have devastating issues to maintain alive (as Staff are clearly investing & risking most their time/money, all towards this single game). So, I hope this game really pays off/prospers as it would really salvage/benefit the company and it's future 'Browser/Mobile' projects.

Software transition

Flash is certainly not the future, it's slowly die-ing out from our daily used devices (you can check Flash Player latest news on Google to confirm this statement). I just hope all these more successful/dominant games, AE currently have going (I.e ED, AQW etc) can be future convertible from Flash Player to HTML5 or other popular and more successful player softwares as it would be sad to see these games end up as a lost relic.

My final decision/out-come

I have thought long and hard and i've decide to confirm my retirement here in OS (only a miracle will make me return here along with many others), although I will be still playing on ED from time to time (my last AE game remaining). I know some of you may think that this is not the best idea to do generally, as we should never give up easily in what we love, but the issues we're having here have been going on since early 2012. It's just a losing battle staying/hoping for the better anytime longer, we have given enough chances/support as well as time/money to this game and nothing seems to ever come out positive as we are 'very few' in numbers to get what we desire. Thus, it's a almost tearful "farewell and good-luck", from me.

Thanks for reading & God-bless.

@Skurge
It's not really Nulgath's fault. Oversoul didn't have the resources to release much but lots of characters. AE took staff off of the game constantly. I don't believe there was ever a point where every staff member was fully dedicated to working on Oversoul.

@Tuga
Goodbye Tuga. I'll still be playing Oversoul a bit though there's only so much I can do. It's really unfortunate that it had to end this way, after all of us put so much time, money, and effort into trying to save this game. I wish you the best, along with anyone else who will be leaving the OS community. I'll miss the friends I've made here, though I can't say I blame them for leaving.

Well, the best thing we CAN do is just continuing to play the game, I admit Nulgath's departure or whatever you want to call it is sad, but we can probably be like HS and try to keep this game afloat till nulgath comes back

The Jop: This is true to an extent. Like I said though, it was just very ill managed.

I might just be a bit salty about all this, but it's hard to play a game without any progression. A PvP game is fun when there are actual changes in cards/strategies and with character development halted, even that's stopped.

Like megakyle777 said, if it does come back, I'll be the first one here. I've spent so much time into this game and I love it.
