So I'm reading up on why the Devs were working on this mobile game.
Because it seems to me they have given up on this game, this game which has potential, thrown away for a mobile game. Which they believe will be amazing.
"Instead of a human fighting a horde of monsters, we REVERSED it!" Okay. Great, so besides the fact it's the other way around it's basically the same thing? Astonishing.

They said browser games were on the decline and flash was unpopular or what not.
To me, it sounds like they don't want to admit they failed this game/ created a failure. They want to shift the blame onto the popularity of browser games.
Yet, some browser games have over thousands of players. Let's look at AQW for one, that game is basically Dress-up, stand in Yulgar. Pick up-items farm for maximum reputation, get class, go back to Yulgar. While I do admit its events are decent. It's been out for nine years? Since June, 2008 Beta. October 10, 2008 for live. And it still remains popular to a point. I just logged in at 5:30 AM, 4:30 AM for some regions of America. Over eight thousand players right now. I played ED since beta, I remember when I had to keep refreshing the page just to try to log into Legion or Exile! I remembered having to sadly log into the Doom server because the rest were booked. Legion, Epic, Doom and Exile. Four servers, four brimming servers. Reduced to One + a locked server which might as well be deleted.

I don't want to make it look as if I'm comparing the two games. One game is based solely on PVP while the other questing and such. But this one game (AQW) has over 8 thousand (Right now at time of login), when I used to play easily 30,000. I don't know how much people play in the day time. And there are millions more other browser games/multiplayer browser games out there. Especially on sites like Kongregate or another game, Transformice with 13,000+ on right now.

My question to you, do you think Browser games are on the decline? Or do you think the devs say this to "feel better" about a failing game under their name.

Personally, for me. The Second option.

Adobe is cutting support for Flash, egged on by giants like Google and Apple. You could have the equivalent of WoW in Flash and it will still die in the next few years, regardless of how many millions want to play it. So a shift to Unity is necessary and the devs are learning how to code in it through BioBeasts. It's not an opinion, it's an industry fact. How companies like AE deal with this will determine whether they still survive in the coming years.

On the other hand, it's not as if Flash is going to die while demand for its products is still rising. There is objectively a move away from browser games towards other markets, due to a variety of reasons. So the devs will have to rethink the nature of the game. How ambitious can a mobile game be? How profitable/sustainable/viable is a browser game in Unity? What are the alternatives? These questions are still being worked through at the highest levels of AE's management.

Just google, "The decline of flash" and read from people who aren't working with artix entertainment tell you why flash is not a good system at all. You can google, "Will google end flash support" and learn how google is taking steps to end the use of flash support on it's browser.

The information is out there and you just need to look it up to see we aren't kidding when we say focusing only on flash would be a death sentence for the company. I even stumbled upon a graphic i am not fully inclined to trust showing the percentage of web pages that still support flash had dropped to 10%. Now it makes sense for a mobile focused world as flash doesn't natively run on phones but it still boggles the mind if it's accurate

Yes, they've failed their games and are trying to fix them. But they're not using the death of Flash as a cover-up even if they are covering the fact that they failed their games. Something happened this summer on a browser that broke Flash. It was easily fixed. Flash can break at points. Then you see a whole community that wants Flash killed because "Flsh $ukz. HTML/Untiy/Whatevs is btr bcuz they dont brk a crtn pts. Kill dis pizza crp." They're angry that their internet experience was ruined. Just like annoying bugs in these games that prevents players from doing stuff. They hate this stuff. And no, I'm not talking about just SOME of the players in the ED community, but MOST of the people in the INTERNET community AS A WHOLE. People are tired of stuff breaking, so they want Flash's death. That's why AE is trying to convert their games to Unity and as well as a reason to make mobile games. (Other than the fact to get on the market, which, of course, is the main reason.) They need to gain experience in Unity to convert to save their games. This company has been out a long time and they don't want to die off that easily. That's all.

I kind of see it as a positive perhaps sometime in the future the developers could release a completely new epic duel for the mobile platform and perhaps take this chance to completely overhaul how the game works mechanically so it could be as fun and as interesting as it was in it's early days.

I have seen a few turn based strategy games for mobile but I think there would be demand for a game like epic duel. Hell I would play it if it was back to say they beta version.

Flash is hated not because "Flash sucks", flash sucks due to overwhelmingly glaring issues with security. FlashPlayer is highly unstable and is easily exploitable to the right people. Adapting to a new system will greatly reduce the workload for AE to fix many potential exploits and issues within the game engines themselves, due to the support for newer technologies like HTML5, for both general purposes and security reasons.

They are just exploring other means to develop without flash. Meaning that you could be watching at a version of epicduel with less "lags" or/and with MORE features that would be impossible on the current epicduel.

Meanwhile, they are trying to build also a "successful" mobile game.
It is a two edged blade, call it, some sort of a devil game where chances are that may result in either extreme success or failure.

The world of grown ups is really a scary place. AE as come along a long way, but made the mistake of diving too into smaller teams in order to make "more" games, now they sure could have used some extra team members to keep projects like Epicduel alive.
