I truly wonder what is the ratio between the happy and angry people with these seemingly random code weapon giveaways. Whenever NW releases codes, he spreads them out nice and evenly, more or less announces times in advance. And yet, when you look at the replies, there are always plenty of extremely angry people.

I honestly don't care about code weapons anymore (outside of figuring out what they are, for the wiki), I don't try to get them. But they do, kinda annoy me.
Looking at the Limited-Rares and how often they get restocked, we can safely say that devs don't really mind devaluing the rarity of items, by putting more of them out there. Which is fine. If it makes the remaining players happy, that's ok.

I would suggest that they take a similar approach with these code weapons.
1. Firstly, mark them with a "Rare" tag, because, they do not really deserve the "Ultra-Rare" tag (I would even go as far as to re-tag all of the previous code weapons from Ultra to only rare, just let me know if you need a list of all of them and links to their wiki pages).
2. Then each time you release one of these code weapons, make the code redeemable a 1000 times. Let everyone and their 3 alts get it. Make people happy, not angry at you. In about a years worth of time, the item will still be considered extremely rare and hold its value, because it was available on that one day, at that one time and was given out only once (even if 1000 people redeemed it).

Nightwraith, you are about to start giving out yet another set of these code weapons. It's not too late to still make some changes.

The answer to why everyone is upset is simple. Everyone wants the items, but only a handful of people can get them. While some will use the excuse of 'greedy people using alts to steal them from other non alts' the reality is that even if no one used alts they would still be upset due to not getting the item if it isn't a common item.

Cause I remember before the bounty pistol (which was the very first ultra rare given by the staff via code) if anyone missed an item there was little to no stink due to being able to get it in game.

he should just make the code available for an entire day and then not re-release it for rarity i guess

The original purpose of timed and limited prize codes was to get people to follow the developers' Twitters and to check it. All of the suggested solutions for how to make prize codes more fair that I have seen floating around, such as restocking the same code or making the code available for an entire day, would interfere with this.

@NDB The original purpose of fame was to bring attention to ED (similar as the of original purpose of timed and limited prize codes) and look where that's now... Is it better to, every once in a while, make a bunch of people angry just to bring some attention to devs' twitter? Or to make them happy and make them want to check the devs' twitter accounts every now and then?
