Being top 2-10 and friends with number 1 is actually better than being number 1 yourself.
This is because if you are top 2-10 you can get your own wish, but you can also be given one of the 20 codes for number 1's wish item as well.
This results in you having two wish items instead of one, whereas number 1 doesn't have any other player to receive a code from for a second wish item.

This seems like it's possibly an unintentional result, considering you'd expect the number 1 gifter to have the maximum possible reward.

Top 1 gets the wish, and the code. I mean technically they don’t have to share it.

The codes are for the wish. They could have two copies of the same wish item, but not a copy of two different wish items.
Obviously it's not a guarantee, it's just something to take into consideration when creating reward structures like this.

If the top 15 get the wish, that means the #1 can wish for Founder armor.
If the #1 can get a custom item and gets the code to share with 20 friends, then the #1 gets --- Founder armor, The Custom item

Their friends (let's say their friends are slots 2-15), will get the wish, and the code that the #1 got.

At most the 2-15 could be equal, but honestly the #1 is the real winner because they get to help MAKE the Custom item.

The way it was worded, it sounds like the custom item is #1's wish, not that they get a wish and also a custom item.
Might need NW to clarify whether top place receives 1 item or 2.

They probably should receive 2 (one wish + one custom item), because of exactly this scenario where being #1 could potentially result in less rewards than #10.
