Out of Control

Hey there, heroes!

Book 3's main story: The End of Magic continues this week! After the closure of the Magesterium's Sandsea rift, the Kingdom of Greenguard seemed to settle as the various factions plan their next moves.

The Rose, led by Lady Jaania, continue their plots and research while Queen Victoria of the Kingdom of Greenguard acclimates to her new position. Meanwhile, the resistance forces of the Vind scout the lands, awaiting the Magesterium's next move. Akanthus, general of the Rose, advances his own plots in the background as well.

And today, the Magesterium takes their next step, with potentially world-changing consequences.

Head over to Kara in Sulen'Eska to play this week's quest: Out of Control!

Also this week, a few bug fixes and updates.
  • Fixed bug with Ascended ChickenCow's "Keelia's Ultra Fried Cow" skill would cause unintended behavior with other effects.
  • Fixed bug with DragonSlayer where "Draconic Blaze" would cause unintended behavior with other effects.
  • Fixed bug where DragonWarrior's Dragon's Flare shield and damage boost were not applying properly.
  • Fixed bug where Groundhog Wings III and Necro Paragon Cape III did not give +4 WIS.
  • Fixed bug where female DragonSlayer did not have proper hit/cast/dmg spots.
  • Fixed bug with ShadowHunter where the weaken combo would not properly apply.
  • Fixed bug where old skills marked as using "Range" damage would bypass defenses.
  • Fixed bug where Ancient Shadow Rogue's Daze attack did not apply its proper effects.
  • Fixed bug where the Ebony and Roses scythes from 2010 HHD improperly had a sword icon instead of scythe.
  • Fixed a variety of exploits and issues.
  • The Cyrohem's Heart on foot battle in the Song of the Ateala war has had its difficulty significantly reduced.
The list of bugs to fix still has quite a lot to go, but I'm doing my best to fix as many as I can when I have time.

Friendly!

Hmm. I thought the artifact looked a bit "historic" when I first saw it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's
spoiler:

a piece from a Shadowscythe Mech? Or something like that...?
I'm very interested to see how that plays out.

I will be crossing my fingers for a war soon, though...

Oookay, a lot to unpack here.
spoiler:

Four at once.Four. At. Once.

I suppose the only silver lining to this is that Jaania has somewhat come to her senses deployed the Rose from the Fissure. Oh, that and we get to see Neron, Thursday and Raven again. And Verlyrus!

And now apparently at least one of Magesters have gone rogue? Was this part of Akanthus' and Bolemiras' plans they were discussing during Three Questions? What would he plan to do with that Shadowscythe tech on top of everything else?

Can't wait to see what happens next!

It very much seems that everything is going to happen at once.

Huh, I honestly did not foresee Jaania acting reasonable. I was half certain she's going to pull all her forces to the Fissure or even try to take over the Swordhaven itself. I suppose this kind of a thing also explains why she's rather lenient on Akanthus and others like him - she lacks an overabundance of competent underlings.

Getting a look into the inner workings of the magesterium was rather funny. The Shapeless wills it! The Shapeless doesn't!

On a side note, I'm slightly disappointed that Seppy gave in so easily. Slaughter, slavery, amoral actions - I can buy that. Working with the Shadowscythe again? That's... it seems some people are just incapable of learning from their own mistakes.

P.S. The reward does not seem particularly exceptional - unless I'm missing something?

@Flabagast

Chances are Akanthus is going to use it to complete his permanent solution to put an end to the influence of the Mana core

spoiler:

Once again I fear for the sake of Victoria sanity trying to maintain everything.

Given that the Magesterium is clearly confused as to why all the proclamations are activating simultaneously, it seems pretty clear that Akanthus or Bolmeria or both have made their move though more likely Akanthus since he has more to gain from drawing Jaania away from the Fissure, totally enjoyed her look of freakout by the way.

I'll admit it was refreshing to see some members of the Magesterium not desire outright destruction or rather not complete eradication of Greenguard and it's people even though that would have likely have been the easier option and even if some are really only concerned about not leaving the regions uninhabitable and not the people it is nice to see that the group isn't just focused on pure devastation to make a point.

I'm curious as to what we saw with Seppy changing forms though because besides the other half of Neron's face I could not recognize the man and woman he shifted through so do these form belong to people that he knows well enough to copy to a certain capacity like an Ancient Magus Bride situation or did he actually create these appearances out of nowhere?

On another note, I wonder how we're going to close the rift in Doomwood? I imagine Sarfira will come into play and Thursday as well because right now we're going to need a lot of power to stop that thing. If we're turning to necromancers for help then the only one I can think of is Sally right now as according to Zorbak she has gotten dark over all this time which might mean she's grown in power significantly.

Also will we see Verlyus' true power during the assault on Doomwood? Will he show those elementals the power of boxes? :3

The Rose affects Greenguard Kingdom/Land of Dragons to be weaker than the past. There were a lot of heroes showing up in the Great Fire War. Bias against magic in people's mind causes Greenguard Kingdom to have low numbers of heroes today. Thus, it's very interesting to see how Greenguard Kingdom confront this threat next. Will some characters show up next?

Yes, very interesting.

However, I do not mean to rush you, but didn't you promise some news last week on ChaosWeaver progress?

Helpful!

@dragon_master, it will come soon, I would guess at the end of the year for testing, as usually new armors have come to testing in october-december. In Dove's twitter, you can see some of the animations etc.

spoiler:

It was nice to see Thursday, Raven and Neron after Blood and Roses -saga

And I'm very interested what comes next. Shadowscythe mecha? 4 rifts? Dragesvard reimagined since we haven't seen it yet?

Holy Hell.
Go Robina...
I know it seems childish but its nice to see Jaania put in her place once in a while.

spoiler:

Ah... This looks like its going to be BIG.
4 fronts? That seems... Overkill, even by current standards.

Although, it seems like this is actually out of control. Do we fight the war on four fronts?

As for the level of magic power needed...
placing my bets now:
1) Zorbak. Not Noxus or whatever is left.
2) Warlic and Xan. One to close the rift in the north (Probably Xan, what with his role there in the final 13 saga and all), and one to close it in Swordhaven (Warlic, to be put in a path of conflict with Jaania). Unless King Alteon shows up again, using his Dragonlord magic.
3) A new Arrival for the deadlands. Or. Seppy.

I dont know. I'm going to college again for my masters fairly soon, so I'm worried about missing any part of this while travelling and setting up shop...

Hoo boy. I am really looking forward to this. :D

Kudos to whoever guessed Shadowscythe mech. Is it weird that I care more about Seppy than anyone else featured in this quest?

Also, the Magesterium seems more kooky than they first appeared. We've known for awhile that they control the Shapeless, but even behind closed doors they talk about it as if they really do worship it. And in this quest, they yell about its will, almost as if it's a code about what they think should be done, but with the zeal of true believers. It seems to take a great deal of effort to propose a vote on what to do next.

spoiler:

I wonder if removing the mana core piece would close the rifts. Because we're still waiting for a certain duo to make their appearance.

spoiler:

So with all these rifts happening, will we see a whole line up of temporary magic enchanted weapons being cast and used until then?
