So while it's still available from the Frostvale quests, how does the Lord of Thunder armor compare to the Heavy Gunner armor, which I believe is the only other FD Energy armor available?

Probably depends on what you want. Lord of Thunder has a burn effect which you can stack I think 4 times, or maybe just 3 and the damage from that is pretty good but Gunner does give a mana shield so it's more defensive there. And it comes with an extra attack too in the form of a second skill. Lord of Thunder has a 2 hit normal attack as opposed to Gunner with a 1 hit. I'm not sure if Lord of Thunder is mastercrafted but it sure is fun to use and can speed up kills thanks to how strong the burn can be in so little time.

Actually, Heavy Gunner was part of the Warp Force crossover that is currently in Limbo. It's uncertain when it will come back. Outside of rare and premium items, the only other FD energy armors are neko and the one from the Umazen war.

Neko is probably your best bet for FD. Stat toggles, 100-proc or beast boosts, burn and bleed toggles - it's pretty much everything you'd want from a defensive armor.

If you are attached to some other subrace, Excelsior Guard gives an occasional passive damage boost, while Lord of Thunder has a burn inflicting skill. Honestly, both work fine though neither is exceptional.

@Primate Are you talking about the Quester's Heavy Gunner? You can actually get it via the Warp Wars quest. Go to Today's Event, choose WarpForce Crossover then pick Warp Wars. I got mine and it is... ok, I guess

My bad, for some reason I thought the Warp Force Crossover was gone from Today's Event.

Note that Excelsior Guard has two versions, the MC one is from Top 25 war wins, the one from the war shop is non-MC.
