I am just curious about something, every since I started playing DF way long ago, I always noticed that on the Character selection screen it had a denotation of "race" with human being the default. And I was always curious if that would ever be an option to change, here I am around 10 years later and still no race change options. I am here to ask if there is a discussion from somewhere on high that might allow a change or rumors somewhere that mention a potential race change option?

It was planned early on in the development of the game that there would be different races to change to. But over time that became unrealistic because of the development time that would be needed to implement it. And by now the story is pretty much based on that you are a human, so its highly unlikely that different races are gonna be implemented for the player character.

 If it means anything to you, some of the barber's hairstyles in book 3 ravenloss give you elf ears (it doesn't actually change your race though)

although i think it would be cool being able to have subraces like in adventurequest. It would be so noice to become a werewolf or a vampire (maybe werepyre). wouldnt even need to be canon hehe but i know it's never gonna happen

We had stuff like the Zarbie class and Monkeys before. I'm betting if we do get Vampire or Werewolf it would be a class, DC or one you level. Probably DC as I'm betting choosing Vampire or Werewolf would lock you out of the other story-wise.

They would make for some interesting non-canon classes, but I'm sure we know that creating a new class and testing it with the playerbase can be a lengthy process. If it's too much then I'd freely let the hope go.
