Currently 250 str dex 175 luck, considering changing to 250 dex luck, 175 cha

Fun is fairly subjective. Personally, I enjoy the Sol Neko - but it does focus on pets and guests. If you don't plan on 250 Cha, Luna Neko would be better.

Were guests assumed to be necessary during the sweep to balance rangers?/How much of a loss would I be playing at if I dont use guests

Guests are not really necessary, but I mean... why wouldn't you use them? Guests are unaffected by FD armor lean, deal 60% melee damage at the expense of ~22% and the variety of effect guests makes them great for utility.

Also, rangers have little use for the PR loop, so those spell slots are going to waste without guests.
