Is BeastMasterMage is still a thing ? or should I retrain my stats or stick with it ?

I need help on my equipment. Before I went hiatus, I only use full defensive armors/misc/shield then let my pets/guest hit the enemies, Kindly advise which should I equip.

Welcome back!

FD Beastmage is very much still a thing and has plenty of items to accomodate the build.

First of all, I suggest maxing out your Int, Dex and Cha, training them up to 250.

Secondly, a number of subraces (not Dracopyre) has been revamped, and Sol Neko is the best one for defensive beastbuilds. It has boosts to beast damage and accuracy, Cha drive, DoT toggles, passive DoT booster and a chargable skill that can double your beast damage for one turn. Complete the Advanced subrace quest to get a 9th slot subrace transformation armor.

Weapons

I would suggest aligning your no-drop element to Darkness, as it doesn't have a proper tome and no great shields.

Book of Burns from the Moderator Challenge is a fire tome with attack, burn and mana shield spells. Alternatively, Dreamweaver's Insight wand restores a notable amount of mp after each attack.

Healing Branch is a water tome that can attack, heal and cure DoTs.

Winds of Time is a wind tome.

Ice doesn't have a tome, but Arctic Athame boosts the damage of your ice spells by 18.75%, with the bonus doubled if monster has Int>0.

Loremaster's Tome is the only compression tome in the game. It has an earth spell, a light spell and a harm spell.

Lightning Rod is still the only energy tome available.

Since you have a light spell compressed in Loremaster's Tome, I suggest using Sacred Paladin Bow or Sceptre. They heal a notable amount of hp every turn when you fight an undead monster. The healing is active even if you don't attack with them (like cast a spell for example).

Armors

Insightful Armor of Awe has a qc mana shield, which may be slightly more useful than UG robes.

Sol Neko has full elemental coverage. In just 3 armors (+9th slot no-drop) you can cover every element.

We have Bard of War armors in UR GGBs, covering wind, ice and fire elements. They have toggles granting celerity to your pet and guest for a fairly cheap cost, making them some of the best beastmaster armors in the game. Will probably go rare in January, so make sure to pick them up asap.

Finally, this year gave us our first fully updated endgame class with a complete 20 skills - Paladin. It's great against undead, it has an FD mode, a toggle to boost beast damage, a variety of skills (including 3 that use Cha), a boost to inflicting and resisting status effects, and it can summon 3 light guests - 1 that heals, 1 that blocks attacks and one that toggles between boosting your light damage and dealing 2x guest damage. Overall, a great choice for FD beast builds.

Shields

Snuggle Hearts (available at Snugglefest) boosts your chances of inflicting burns - great synergy with Neko armors.

Celtic Wheel is great for nukes, but for a more sustained gameplay I would suggest the revampred Kindred shield. It charges up a qc sp/mp heal.

There are 2 nice wind shields. Fujin has a Dex drive, increasing the accuracy of all your weapon/spell/pet/guest attacks. Haunted Dragonlord's Will gives you a qc sp-costing Barrier. With proper Purple Rain usage, you can basically become immortal.

Pies has a Cha drive, making it perfect for beastmasters.

Sol Shield provides a minor damage reduction based on your Cha and gives you an extra Sol charge each turn.

Umazen Aspis gives Paralysis potence - great synergy with Fruitcake Zards.

Scarab Shell has a toggle to lower monster MRM, increasing the accuracy of all your attacks (including spells and beasts).

Spells

As a beastmage, you somehow need to fit in damage, utility and guest-summoning spells in just 8 slots. I'll just give you the rundown and let you pick and choose your own inventory:

Damage

Thankfully, you already cover most damage spells with your tomes. As such, there are only a few worth mentioning:

- Arctic Tornado is the strongest ice spell, dealing +50% damage for an hp cost, but it's premium. Your Frigid Fury would be the next best choice.

- D-Burst remains the strongest dark spell available.

Utility

- Sizzler 'Splosion sacrifices some damage, but autohits - useful against high MRM wind mobs.

- Knife to Meat You is a qc, 1/battle earth damage spell. Only available at Mogloween.

Purple Rain is one of the most useful meta spells, to the point where there's an entire strategy build around it (see Purple Rain Loop in Commonly Used Strategies). It acts as a save point - cast it once to save your current sp/mp/hp, then cast all your buffs (like Moonwalker's Grace and SFP) and debuffs (like Mesmerize), then cast Purple Rain again to return your sp/mp/hp back. Here are some spells you can cast inside the PR loop:

- Moonwalker's Grace. Qc Dex booster.

- Edoc Imanok. Qc MRM boost, enhances your blocking.

- Angry Trobble. Accuracy boost for several turns. Not qc.

- Arcane Amplification. Qc Int booster. Premium.

- Una Poca de Gracia. Qc Cha booster. Premium.

Guests

- Blazing Legion Minion. Burn toggle that synergizes nicely with Neko's lvl 8 passive.

- Fruitcake Zard. Paralysis toggle - great synergy with Umazen Aspis shield and Frostgale's Remorse misc.

- Dekanor. Has *1.5 upkeep and *1.5 damage.

- Nezujimbo. Freeze toggle - great synergy with D-Burst, Frost Effigy pet and Frostgale's Remorse misc.

- Doomquake Minions. 2x damage for 2x upkeep.

- Mogdin. Best paralysis guest in the game.

- Paladin armor can summon Manifestation - 2x damage for 2x upkeep.

- Grimlord of Nulgath. 2x damage for an hp upkeep.

- Memet. The only harm guest in the game.

Pets

Underwyrmling is the only pet in the game that can harm monster sp.

You have a Fruitcake Zard for a great paralysis set-up.

Mutant Egg pet (wind) toggles between paralysing and giving you damage reduction.

Frost Effigy has a toggle to Freeze the monster and a Freeze potency, giving it great synergy with Nezujimbo.

Woolzard toggles between inflicting EleVuln (to increase the damage of your earth spells and DQ Minions) and inflicting Sleep. Both modes can be enhanced for an sp cost.

Grab a Mutant Egg pet for energy - nice synergy with Mogdin.

Your Fairy Godmother toggles between light damage, healing hp and healing mp. Great utility.

Your Aberrant the Exiled is the strongest dark pet in the game, dealing +50% damage for an hp cost.

Miscs

Essence Orb and Pixel Ether in your storage allow for qc conversion of hp>sp and sp>mp respectively. They ensure that you never have to worry about upkeep and always have the resources for a spell/skill.

SFP and Love Potion have qc effects that grant you an extra turn and stack with themselves - proper use with Purple Rain can basically make you invincible.

Clever Disguise is a beastmaster misc that sacrifices your turn and some sp to give guaranteed celerity to your pet and guest.

Goggernaut Helm gives +10 bth to every attack on the field. This includes your pet and guest and doesn't have the usual /2 for spells.

Cracked Ornament in your storage gives +10 bonus to all your effect inflictions.

Frostgale's Remorse toggles between giving +20 bonus to inflicting Freeze and Paralysis.

Hope the info's useful and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

Thanks.

I appreciate this guide, very useful and informative.

I wasn't able to include in my first post that I'm either FO Mage(For farming) or FD Mage(For Bosses).

I was able to max my stats, Ind/Dex/Cha.
As for the Subraces. Thank you for letting me know that this part was updated, I went Vampire since this race is for FO Mage, I'll prolly go back to Neko.

For Weapons, Where can I find Arctic Athame ? I'm currently farming void and constantly beating Mister Frostvalverse.
And 1 question for Weapons. Is there any new weapon that boost your Int or Spells ? I'm still using Sila's Staff or should I use the Bloodmage Weapon ?

For Armors, You've mentioned to get the 3 Bard Of Wars since it's for FD Mage, I'll probably buy that.
BloodMage is still the Meta for FO Mage ?

For shields, I Always use the Celtic Wheel since it gives Int for Bursting, or are there any shields alternative that can be useful for FO Mage ?

For Spells I've covered each element by buying the premium. I'll study how the purple Rain works, I think this is like the old Eye of Naab Shield ?
What is MRM ?
I guess Status Effects/Buffs/QuickCast spells is the Meta now. I'll probably by next the Arcane Amplifcation Premium.
Is the Una Poca De Gracia is worth it considering I have 250 CHA ?

For Guest and Pets I think I'll just use Poelala.

Miscs, I'm currently spamming Warlic Oblivions Sphere or there's more worth it Misc that can help boost my Spell Damage ?

Chessmaster Saga > Going Kukoo

Fire: Arcane Cutlass of Combustion
Water: Tsunami Pen
Wind: Arcane Cutlass of Gales
Ice: Arctic Athame
Earth: Terra Bloodzerker Sword
Energy: Dynamancer's Bloodblade
Light: Arcane Cutlass of Radiane
Darkness: Blackbones

Yes, with the exception of the elemnts that don't have them:

Wind: LoTS is best, but it's premium. Haunted Dragonlord is next best.
Earth: Terra Bloodzerker.
Darkness: Silk-Screamer Rider or Brilhado Robes with D-Burst. Angel of Souls is also popular, because the skill costs hp.

Celtic Wheel remains the best nuke shield for mages.

Abbreviation for Melee/Ranged/Magic. It's your block stat,

Not really if you're only using Poes.

When it comes to pure damage, Grakma Warhorn si the strongest spell booster. It gives you a multiplicative bonus to damage that's not /2 for spells, though it comes at the expense of accuracy.

I really appreciate you for replying.

Thanks, I was able to snag the Arcthic Athame.

I'll buy the Arcane Cutlass of Combustion in UR GGB.

There's Arcane Cutlass of Tides for Water Element, Is this better from the one you've mentioned Tsunami Pen?

Arcane Cutlasses provide an additive bonus to damage (which does not interact with Poes or blood boost), while Tsunami Pen provides a multiplicative one. According to Skill Power Rating, Tsunami Pen gives ~11% more damage at 0 Cha - and the difference only grows larger the more Cha you have.
