Mods if this is against the rules, my apologies and delete the thread.

I brought this up because this year 2020 Frostval Quest story is connected to Frostval 2018. There is clearly a storyline here. Even if it is minimal, new players may become confuse at what characters may be referencing to when speaking about past events.

The only other way new players can get a full idea of what is going on is to read the previous quest through info subs or through the Encyclopedia which may or may not be there.

To make myself clear: THIS IS NOT ABOUT QUEST REWARDS!

I know that those are rare and should remain rare.

This is just for story purpose only.

What is your opinion on this? Do you agree or disagree?

The hard part about putting the quests back in the game even just to go through the story is that Portals exist. If you bought the Portal after the Delivery War you have full access to that years Frostval. That includes the rewards. In order to have the quest in game without access to the rewards they would need to clone the quest and re-release it without the shops.

The 'Pedia has fallen behind in updates sadly. It is being worked on when editors have the time.

Beep Beep! ArchKnight AQ / ED

This thread is fine to stay put, however I will gently remind people that for it to remain, a discussion must be made. Which, given the topic at hand should be easy, as there is lots to discuss at this time of year.

Personally I'd love this. I come in and out of this game every few years and the Frostval events are always a highlight that I miss.

There's a lot of Nightmare Queen lore that's gated behind permarare quests. I'd support something like Dragonfable's house item for revisiting seasonal content, personally. I have no particular investment in Frostval rares staying rare but I respect that others do, so I'm fine with the items being unavailable.

I wouldn't mind having the quests return in some form be it the rewards not being up for grabs, or given a sort of time twisted/legendary version being made just to keep the original version special. The alternative would be to you know make it a hub sort of painting situation with perhaps a refund for the "extra" paintings seeing the nature of the quests being cut apart by yearly paintings originally. Sure it would make the rewards a bit less special if you could always get them but hey having them be a bit more open to everyone at least once a year would be nice lore wise/ giving some alternative options even if I imagine only certain items would be must grabs anyway.

I was going to say. They could also include new rewards if they want (new, not the original rewards) since the original rewards are long gone and I assume replaying past Frostval quests would be accessible to everyone.

Question, if you visited some else house could you do the old quest through clicking on their paintings?

Edit: got my answer in Q&A, you can't. I wish there was a way to play old Frostval stuff.

Edit: Hope someone who has the old Frostval paintings does a YouTube videos, please and thank you

This is why paintings are a great idea.

It's not just for nostalgia.

It's useful to be able to redo a quest if you have better armor, weapons, etc.

Honestly, it's not like it would kill the game to bring back functional versions of past rewards. It's horrible and outdated game design to lock equipment with relevant gameplay functionality behind discontinued items. For those five or so people who will get their panties in a twist about it, just put "legendary" in front of the old items like what was done with the bloodblades/etc... Problem solved.

@Above: Most online games today still remove items from the availability. They usually call it Legacy items. It just doesn't happen as often as AE games because they are typically larger scale. You may not see it as a bad thing but there are many that will see it as a slap in the face if the items we have that pretty much show how long we have been playing are freely available to everyone. There's already far fewer items going Perma Rare than there used to be. Frostval items are the only ones that are guaranteed to never return. Well, them and some of the token package bonuses.

Throwing the "Legendary" tag on it is nowhere near the same. For me, the items that I have that are "Legendary" tagged reminds me constantly that I used to have something special but now anyone can get it.

Would it be possible to have just the recaps of the storyline for relevant quests? or just a tl;dr in the form of text?

^If you are talking about the Nightmare Queen story, that would be a nice alternative. But that was not the only reason why I made this thread.

Think of all the fun Frostval quest, bosses and stories AQ has had over the years. Including Frostval 2020.

Because they are locked behind Frostval paintings, only a certain number of players would be able to experience them. Who may or may not still play AQ.

Much time and work is put into these Frostval Quest only for the majority to experience it once?

That is why I am suggesting a Frostval Recollection quest.

Just because other games do it doesn't make it good game design. It's equally damaging when other games do it too. Other games that do this often limit these types of items to cosmetics only. AQ does not. And if the issue is that the value of these items comes from showing how long you've been playing, that is no reason to also time-lock the functionality of the item. I'm sure people have suggested releasing clone versions of important rare items that mimic functionality under a different name and artwork. I think it's short-sighted of the staff to have never considered doing that. Heck, they could lock such items behind MTX tokens if they really wanted to preserve the value of paintings or whatnot.

As much as releasing the functionality of older build and equipment would be a "slap in the face" for players wanting to restrict them to newer players, it's even more of a "slap in the face" to newer players to join the game, excited to try it out, and then be denied a surprising amount of rare items that could otherwise act as gap fillers, or build options, or outright game-changing equipment. It's disheartening for a new player to look at a recommended list and see far too many of the top options as unavailable simply because they are rare. Why should your feelings be prioritized over theirs? This game has lost too many players over the years. We need new blood to survive in the long term. If this game goes down, so will all the rare items that you've kept exclusive in your inventory over the years. Everyone loses.

While less items are being made rare nowadays, many still are, and many of the rare items that are released are significant to modern builds. It's honestly a huge waste to see the staff put so much effort in developing certain items with unique functions, and then immediately turn around and make those same items permanently unavailable. It's just not a good use of AQ's extremely limited development team to work on an update that will fail to have a permanent effect on the game.

I actually have all the rare items I currently want for my build, and I'd be fine with if their functions, or even their actual items were to be made available again. I don't know if there's ever been any kind of poll, but most players seem to be rather apathetic about the possibility of re-releasing either rares or rare clones, and that the people yelling loudest to stop that from happening are increasingly becoming a shinking vocal minority that the staff has catered to.

If player want to access past Frostval quest (with reward) at any time: player need to first purchase a appropriate Frostval painting (accessible at all time)

@Vellup I prefer to talk about the Frostval Quest, but this is probably inevitable.

With the release of the 2020 Frostval Misc and Armor what you just said about gap changing equipment is true.

I think there are Frostval Events that actually do not have Frostval Paintings for them. I could be wrong, but I can't seem to find Frostval Paintings for certain years such as year '13 and Behind, which means even those who did play through them don't have the ability to access the quests again either. If they were to make the quests available again, whichever way the Staff deem is fair, at least everyone (new and old) would be able to benefit. I wish they would've released paintings for them. I, too, think I'd be nice to be able to play older Frostval events for the stories whether it's with or without rewards.

As for Rare items, I wouldn't mind different colored or different elemental items of past Frostval Event/Quest (non guardian giftbox) Items be introduced, as they do Guardian Dragon Form, SWF, PVF, etc.
