Book 3: Reimagined: Fight, Flight, & Fire

Hey there, heroes!

This week, Book 3: Reimagined continues! With the peace talks ruined, an army of Rose soldiers, led by General Akanthus, have approached the border of Betrubung Swamp... Sulen'Eska's fate, and that of the refugees and rebels hangs in the balance.

It's up to you and your companions to buy time for the refugees to escape. Give The Rose a night to remember! But will it be enough?

Head over to Kara's old quests in Sulen'Eska to push back The Rose in the penultimate quest of Book 3's Reimagining!

Also this week, we have a few bug fixes.

  • Fixed being unable to purchase bag slots from the Book of Lore if you have over 200.
  • Fixed being unable to purchase bag slots from Cysero's Superstore in Book 1 and Book 3 if you have over 200.
  • Fixed an issue where Critical hits rolled from 0 to 200 instead of 1 to 200.
  • Added Dragon Cleaver Upgrades to the Book 1 Black Market Moglin.

Also, it's the final week this year for the the Anniversay Scythes! Make sure to pick them up before they leave!

    spoiler:

So those were Dragonlords Mritha inspired on her way out? They dealt a heavy blow to the Rose, but probably sullied the Vind's reputation and allowed Akanthus more fodder. I assume the resources he refers to probably allude to Theano and the Thorns, and his little excavation project later on in the story.

Speaking of Akanthus, I'm beginning to wonder if we should be asking what he might be rather than who. He seems to be absolutely invulnerable to magic and unable to use it himself. He says he wants to be "accepted" by it. He appears humanoid, but he uses the word "monstrosity" to refer to himself. I don't know what to make of it yet, but I'm reasonably sure that he isn't native to Lore at all.

Also it was nice to take the Titan Dragon form for a spin again. It's been a while.

I guess we'll be heading to Swordhaven next to see the Beastmaster (and Circe???) I'm curious how y'all will reconnect the timeline and adjust the Espina Rosa stuff too. Looking forward to it!

Man, Rose training must be amazing. Look at that squad coordination between Manahunters, the perfectly synchronized slashes and thrusts!

Btw, is this the first time we fought multiple opponents in Titan form? I kinda feel that lack of a multi.

Reimagined releases, I've missed ya. And the confirmation that we will soon head to Swordhaven? Can't wait.

And fighting against grunts with our Titan Dragon was very nostalgic. Last time we did this without a titan boss at the end was in, what, Fire War? Oh how the time flies.

Woohoo Odgne was in fact a darkness dragon all along! Which ya know obvious, but it's nice to have confirmation and more darkness dragons that aren't shadowscythe oriented or lacking in flesh.

    @Primate Murder

Techinically the last time we fought multi opponents in terms of AI was Wargoth himself when we had to attack both his arms and his main body all of which were treated as separate enemies. The only other time before that, iirc, was when we fought the Entropy Dragon and Titan Surehunter at the same time.

Oh I can see the headlines in Swordhaven now, Extra Extra read all about it, Vind thugs massacre brave Rose defenders with a thunder of villainous Dragonlords! Will Jaania finally move to put down this threat!?!?

That is the ever persistent question isn't it? What does this guy have going on? We know that at minimum he's been to Azayver and was being hunted by them after smooth talking his way out of hitch he got into with them. We know that he appears to have some background information on soul magicks like weavers/forgers and their soul-allies. We also know that he seems to be disappointed in well any magic that is unable to have any sort of affect on him, which at the moment appears to be from any source. I have to wonder if by calling himself a monstrosity doesn't quite mean he's not from Lore but rather that Akanthus himself is possibly cursed by some anti-magic effect. I keep thinking back to the Study of Forbidden Magicks book Akanthus had given Jaania. All of these Magicks causes the tainting of one's soul but one in particular stands out in all of this and that is Fool's Sacrifice. The history behind the spell described a man trying to gain favor with the Magestirium to learn their secrets and magical whatnots and thus concocted a spell that could stop or at the very least weaken other magical effects, even those that are forbidden. The problem here being that the spell itself was also Forbidden in nature and resulted in the caster's soul being tainted and them eventually dying. We know of at least one instance of seeing this spell in action and that was when Danyel used it on Roirr to force him to vomit back up all those souls he ate. Which of course led to Danyel's soul being obliterated and dying immediately. Out of all the speculations that have been had on Akanthus I still feel that this forbidden spell has something to do with him. I don't know if it's because it was somehow used on him or because he managed to use it without destroying his soul, but still likely tainting it in the process (we do know beings with tainted souls can still walk around even after using Forbidden spells), or he just grafted it into his armor somehow, but I feel our armor hulking maniac has some past history or run-in with FS.

Though if it is true that he isn't native to Lore though then where could he have come from? Was he some weird twisted thing from MQ and just doesn't know it (but has some lingering memories of it)? Is he from another plane of existence? Or is he straight up from another planet?

Either way this quests explains the question I had last quest as to why Akanthus wants to destroy magic if he's looking to be impressed with the results by some variants of it? Besides the MQ connection spit take I made from the last quest and the fact that it might be deemed too dangerous to use, I think the answer is a bit clearer now. He is envious of the ability to access it. He absolutely hates that he can not wield magic, or Loreian magic anyway, (or can't anymore) and in typical fashion if he can't have it than nobody else deserves to either.
