The contest has officially ended! Tibbles will soon be heading back home to prepare for the Frostval gifting contest beginning in December, but not before delivering all of the PaleSkull Champion prizes next week! Make sure you stop by the suggestion thread and share your ideas for the set https://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=22405060

Now that it's over, a small request - Would it be possible to unobscure the real numbers? I know the purpose was that hiding the number prevents a lot of abuse but now that the contest is over, I think we deserve to know what the cut numbers were, along with the information being important. Self-reporting only goes so far. Since it's over it can't really be any harm to know what the real numbers were after the fact.

Some on discord revealed what they spent, and there were enough people in discussion to sort of give a good enough spread. All I can say is the top 50 was probably 95% of the total. Ended #43 for me, and based on likely proposals I'm fine not getting the armor. Just the proposals isn't how I play AQ these days so I'm good .

@pd on revealing the figures I am fine with it check out @korribans discord but others might not like to reveal how much they spent, they may strongly disagree but on good note really like the updates on aimed new house guard, more fun house guards be welcome

Can we get info subs on the school set and a painting for the Z-finity gauntlets when they release so I can buy it on all of my characters at my leisure? I'd definitely buy more if we get a painting.

I was about to say, if that 220k was a finger-slip and it was actually 320k that makes more sense. Now that you just told me that 250k was possibly the 24th position, I could have avoided buying that 2-year package and could have barely made it at around 260K. No matter I'm still more or less extremely pleased with the outcome given that my efforts throughout the year paid off massively.

On another note, raising again the idea to possibly increase the winners for next year's summer contest from 25 -> 30. Maybe even 25 -> 35 as a more radical proposal. There's at least 40 players who spent at least 100K, and combined 51 players who spent at least 75k. I think if anything it just goes to show that increasing the winners won't dampen the pool - it may actually generate more excitement and competition. Even if the buy-in does get lower (~350k from last year, versus this year at <250k?) it just goes to show that AQ still has more than enough players that would participate if the perceived buy-in is considered winnable; What's lost at the higher end is made up for by the increased competitiveness at the lower levels of the top slots.

Though none of this has to happen, but it's certainly interesting food for thought. It would be a win-win situation: AQ gets more revenue by increasing engagement with the contests, and the community wins by having more winners all around and feeling like their efforts can actually materialize into something.

Also since we blew past last year's total (13.5m vs 16.1m) I don't suppose we should get a special reward like we did last year with the Tibbles Tank Void Monster?

I think I've sent out about, what, easily 450-500k? Was in a friendly rivalry with Propain Chan for 2nd place. I think PD, your suggestion is the good stuff. In view of how many people have given so generously, maybe more slots for the armour and more slots for even colour customisable armour too? It's good to see so many people being motivated to give to the AQ Classic community.

You could probably make a self perpetuating argument along those lines PD. As the system exists now, there will always be those players who just barely didn't make the cut for some reward. I feel like it's just a roundabout way of asking for static donation goals, which would be better in my eyes than just kicking the can down the road on "x1st/x6th player spend XXXk tokens, but didn't get the armor".
You could have "extras" for those that do meet benchmarks (Like Color Custom Donation Armor), and I'd say that would be the best version of your suggestion.

As for whether it's feasible... AQ team likely doesn't have total control over how Contests are run, given how big a revenue stream it is, so increasing slots when cut off points get too high might be all they could do.

I think that the breakpoint system for Top X donated is completely fine, especially with the armor being opened up to the Top 25. However, I think one major improvement that could be made is the reintroduction of community rewards, similar to the Nilak donation drive from a few years ago, in addition to the current system.

For those unfamiliar with details of the Nilak Drive, basically it was the same system as we currently use however there were community rewards that unlocked based on total amount donated in general. This would mean that if someone donated 2k or 10k or 250k tokens but the community donated, let’s say, 10 million in total, everyone would get the additional prizes.

You're actually right. There will always be winners and losers - that is the nature of ranked contests. If we keep expanding the total number there will always be people who miss out just because they barely didn't make the top cut. Additionally acknowledging that if the top cut is too low, then the prize pool would actually go down. Thus I thought that the ideal top cut is somewhere between 30-35. I'm not advocating going beyond (at least not for the moment as I think the previously cited numbers are likely the maximum before the prize pool starts to go down) that but I do think the results showed an encouraging trend that shouldn't be un-noted.

I will be transparent too - In the past (and even still today) I opposed ranked contests like these but I've largely come around to accepting that a lot of things are going to stay and they will likely not be changing. Advocating for getting rid of the scheme in retrospect was un-productive and not likely to produce any results. That being said I think that within the way that things are things could definitely be better. I do think that we should have implemented various community-centric goals like I suggested a Tibbles Tank Part 2 with time permitting. Also I had suggested things like continuous prizes in order to help people maximize their donations with respect to how much they are able to do for themselves. I'm looking at things like the Dota 2 Battle Pass as a template for what we could be doing. Perhaps every 1000 tokens you donate, you get a prize in a spectrum of rewards you can earn continuously.

I actually want gauranteed rewards for all who donate X amount. 100k is the armor, 75k the pet, 50k the misc, or whatever.

The lack of transparency above 100k is PROHIBITING donating because players aren't going to risk giving out tokens only to find they still didn't make the top 25, or 50, or whatever.

Trust me, I was there last night. Once I found out #25 was in access of 200k, I was no longer playing. If I knew I could obtain the armor at 100k no matter what, I would have donated MORE to get it.

The upper tier of players that typically go on a massive token donating spree would come back down to normalized donation levels, but that slack would have been made up for others trying to now get a guaranteed item(s)

The current system, I get is about making money for the company, but it's FAR too catered to the "whales" as for spending money on tokens...then...those players swoop in and squash all dissent on ideas about the specifics of the items and it then limits the likelihood of a huge swath of players who may have great ideas but because they're not getting the items, they stay silent.

The donation system needs some tweaks to be more inclusive and the 1% Whale community is likely THE SAME players most every time these are held.

I implore staff to take a hard look and find some changes that they can match their monetary gains during these events while widening the participation through inclusion. The current system not only caters to whales, but the elite whales. The normal everyday player knows they have no chance, and they won't participate next time. I promise this is going on.

Edit-> The contest should be more about customization whether color, name, etc. Maybe the top 25 gets color custom and custom name on EVERYTHING?

Donation system need to display the following for the top 200 players in z-tokens donation amount in donation contest Y, where X is digit 0 that can be repeated many times:
70X +
50X +
35X +
25X +
15X +
10X +

There's clearly room for improvement, and I have kept track of concerns about how the last stretch played out. I'll be relaying that feedback to consider for future iterations. However, as before, please abstain from insulting other players. If players are shutting others down in discussions, that's a serious issue and should be reported to moderate it accordingly, but two wrongs don't make a right.

I havn't seen any one person try and silence others directly. I think it's mostly an indirect result of both the system catering to the winners as well as posts that feel a bit pushy. Not intentional by any means, but if I posted a list of 50 people who say, agreed with my suggestion, it by default probably indirectly silences any attempts at putting forth ideas when it feels like a majority rule is already at hand.

No doubt, the winners should have a say, and congratulations to them. The greater issue is lack of inclusion in the event itself leading to lack of inclusion in ideas presented. If more players won an item, more ideas may come forth. 25 people won the armor. But another 25 won the pet. Will the 25 who won the armor dictate what the pet also turns out to be? What about the 1k, 2k donators for shield/miscs? Will their voice be heard too? Or will the top 25 rule the day for ideas? Thats what I'm saying

Some have already said things akin to "I didn't win the armor so I won't comment" Thats more or less what I personally am saying

I personally think after the initial push to put forth a certain set of ideas, and many players in agreement with those ideas, I feel there's been some newer ideas that are all very good also. And I would hope more are still to come .

Something I've seen brought from time to time is the possibility of having both exclusive and community-wide rewards for hitting given thresholds. That's tricky to tackle in terms of a similar amount of items without multiplying the workload of an already packed week, and gating story content behind donation thresholds (As with the Neko content) is something I'm extremely averse to as a writer. Typically such game events tend to involve periods of boosted resources or improved rewards in specific content, while AQ has presently have content avenues for which the latter is applicable -- Such would have to be developed before an event can affect it. That leaves us with limited avenues for trying to find a best of both worlds scenario in the game's current format, but maybe that's something we could think up. It's not my place to plan for it, certainly not with how this year has hit our project backlog with the kind of truck that saturates light novel markets, but I can think of ideas for when the opportunity arises.

Regardless of how we get there, I would love it if we could figure out something new that everyone involved finds fair and engaging for the next iterations.

100k+ Armor
50+ Pet
25k+ shield
5k+ misc

No more 1k, 2k tier

Donate anything item idea still in tact

Top 25 get color custom armor
Top 10 get custom name on armor
Top 5 get additional skill/ability as a "double mastercraft". Maybe skill/ability of their choice, subject to balance from staff.

Items:
Continue to source for ideas, but focus on "toggleable" stuff where multiple builds/players can make use and not force feed the skill-set to specific builds/players, niches etc

I think noi matter the enhancement done, it's going to be more work unfortunately 8-(

From a business perspective, it makes no sense whatsoever to remove the competitive aspect of the donation contest, this is also probably their biggest revenue stream. Making rewards costing only a set amount takes away the competitive spirit of the contest entirely. As a consumer I personally think it's fine since it's only twice a year and on top of that, it's not like the tokens go into the void, they get redistributed to other players.

I do support the idea of expanding the number of slots for top rewards. This was the first time it got expanded to 25 and it did increase the total amount of tokens donated so not a bad thing to increase it even more, maybe to top 35 like what others have suggested. It also offers dolphins a chance to compete as well. Top 10 or maybe top 15 in the future can be given the opportunity to CC their armor or maybe even all parts of the set if it's not too much work.

I also support the idea of community rewards like the Nilak donation drive.

Personally, I strongly feel that the top donors should still have the final say or the majority of the say at the very least for what the rewards should be. ANYONE is free to throw out ideas and the most upvoted one by the top donors should be what is made. So in some sense, the top 50 or top 100 can still throw out their ideas and have the chance that these ideas be implemented if majority of the top donors like it.
