Frostval 2024: The Storm of Stars!

Hey there. heroes!

This year's Frostval celebrations are nearly upon us! As you prepare to bundle up a big bag of gifts to bring up to the moglin town of Frostvale, a surprising visitor arrives with chilling news!

A massive gliterring blizzard has swept up around Frostvale, and it's up to you to get to the heart of it! A happy Frostval depends on your efforts! Hurry over and fight your way to the storm's heart in this holiday war event!

You can access the Storm of Stars war from the Book of Lore!

Also this week, a new cosmetic weapon is available from the DC cosmetics shop!

You can click on this fancy weapon to change its appearance from a staff to a blade! Aurorice can be purchased for 450 Dragon Coins.

There has also been another round of adjustments and updates to ShadowHunter, as well as a change to a few powerful food items.

ShadowHunter:

  • Hunter Combo duration reduced by 1 turn.
  • Combo skill damage reduced from 120/180/250% to 120/150/200%.
  • Mortalbane CD increased from 5 to 6.
  • Shadowbane CD increased from 5 to 7.
  • Finisher's damage scaling reduced. 3 Combo stacks now grants 150% base damage, down from 200% (200/250/300/350% down from 200/250/300/400%)
  • Focused Hunt no longer increases crit damage modifier by 20%.
  • Final Draught now requires being below 25% of maximum HP, and gives +100 Health resistance. Now it's really final!
  • ShadowHunter's Bane icons have been adjusted, as well as bullet outline colors on the widget. This should make it easier to tell which bullet corresponds to which Bane skill at a glance.
  • Fixed an issue where Symone required you to have at least 10 Bloody Monster Hearts to unlock the class, even though she would only consume 1.

    Test of Meanwhile Challenge:

  • Chronocorruptor's +Cooldown attack now must land at least 1 hit in order to increase cooldowns.

    Healing Food changes:

  • Rotten Hardtack and Seaweed now apply Stuffed for 31 turns, and their healing has been changed to Level * 10 HP, ignoring Health resistance (Positive and negative), down from 9999999 HP.
  • Cocoaberry Juice now applies a Level * 3 Heal Over Time effect for 3 turns, ignoring Health resistance, rather than 10% max HP for 10 turns.
  • Instant Pierogi now applies a Level + 10 Mana Recovery Over Time effect for 3 turns, rather than 10% max MP for 10 turns.
  • As always, these changes and adjsutments are up to feedback! ShadowHunter is nearly in the perfect spot, so hopefully there won't be too many more balance adjustments needed for it. Regarding the changes to healing food,
  • these changes should allow them to still stay strong and useful healing items in a pinch while preventing them from effectively tripling your HP for free. Still, as always with nerfs, I'm sure there will be some who oppose this
  • change. So to repeat, things are always subject to change. As DragonFable is ever-evolving, nothing need ever be final.

And that's all for this week! Enjoy this year's Frostval war!

Aight, contributed my minimum 100 waves per war with a bit of boost from themes from Lostbelts Anastasia and Götterdämmerung.

As per the recent balance changes, SH is still in a good spot. The only thing that I am still being weirded out since its reimagining is the chamber's mechanism. Is it really intended to remember its orientation at the end of each battle, since it is inconsistent at that?

Regarding the recovery food changes, nothing really concerning with Pierogi and Juice, but the Hero Diet seems to have been overcompensated on the Stuffed side.

EDIT: Now that I thought about it a bit more, the changes to Draught may have gutted Tool utilization. Then again, you're already in a cornered state to have accessed SH's do or die mode. Probably just me still slightly feeling the loss of the crit damage modifier.

    To War!

    spoiler:

Man, Blizzy really did just walk all the way from Frostvale to Falconreach just to give us the news. What a champ!

Now that I think about, I don't think I've ever seen a moglin run before. Which actually makes sense considering their apparent lack of knees.

Annnd we're at 100%! The swag doesn't really tickle my fancy, but I'm happy with the story development.
    spoiler:

Hooray, Moroz has been hatched -- er, thawed.

Y'know what? I'm pretty proud of this community (us). :) We have a pretty good track record; ever since we found out that if we don't beat a war on time, there will be horrifying consequences, we've really stepped up.

How did everyone else do on the boss battle?
Most of my characters won pretty easily, but I had some trouble with the fifth, weakest. I went through four combinations before I found something that worked.

Depends on your context of "weak" as you didn't provide the variables to the equation.

Tested with BMSW, SH, and Pirate using my default stat configurations (130 STR/INT, 85 END, 100 WIS), and custom mildly offensive Ninja and Paladin (200 DEX/STR (depends on which class was tested), 100 END/WIS, 45 CHA). Regardless of instance, all used the same Dragon build (200 PROT/MAG/FIT) and no InD-grade resistance stacking. Barring Paladin, all used my most offensive build available in Inventory (just had to swap Uragiri with Chaotic Blade of Swordhaven, and Eggsalted with Kunai EX when it was Ninja's time to shine). Result: 100% win rate, no changes in the rotations I'm accustomed to each of those classes.

Another Frostval in the bag (of presents)

The boss posed little trouble for my Paladin build, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

    spoiler:

Wasn't expecting an ice mech-suite! Jacek certainly has the potential to be one heckuva cryomancer one day. Might even give Jaania a run for her money.

And it's good to finally have Moroz back! To think he's been frozen ever since Frallmar attacked years ago now. Also wasn't expecting Jacek's powers manifesting his fear of leaving Frostvale to be the culprit, but it makes sense in retrospect. Poor kid's probably never felt at home anywhere until he and Moroz came to Frostvale.

As the new DNs doesn't have a thread, I guess I'll post my thoughts here instead :)

    spoiler:

First, I'm glad to see Moroz finally being revived! It took six years, so it's good to finally get some closure on it!

Secondly, Jacek being the "culprit" was a neat twist, instead of having it be random holiday villain #415432.

However, I feel like this war was... kinda pointless? I know I've in the past been one of the biggest proponent of regular wars, but the last few years every single war has been formulaic and mostly kinda uncreative, as if the staff has gotten tired of the concept and is just going through the motions rather than actually trying to create unique experiences. At this point, I would personally prefer like one ambitious war per year that actually feels special (many of the Malerous wars qualify, and Black Winter is the gold standard even though I realize that one was kinda unsustainable lol) over three or so meaningless filler wars with a predictable formula (War intro+footwaves -> 50% shop -> 75% catas -> 100% finale). And if there *has* to be a filler war, at least don't make it 7.5m waves <.<
