Book 1 Revisited: Wrath of Xan!
Hey there, heroes!

This week, we're revisiting the Wrath of Xan war! The war has been turned into a mini quest line, and some old rewards have been brought back!

Falconreach is under attack by a rain of fire, and Xan's army is on the way!

The Wrath of Xan is now a series of 3 quests, (with the same story!), taking place between opening the Black Dragon Box and visiting Valencia. (The Timeline will be updated later, once we get a little bit farther in the revisits!).

This update introduced a new tracker for these quests, so make sure you complete them! If you haven't completed them yet, Book 1 Falconreach will be under attack when you return, and you can speak to Ash to save Falconreach from a fiery end!

And, as wth all revisited war quests, you can speak to Ash to revisit how Falconreach looked, as well as replay through the quests!

Also this week, a new cosmetic helm has arrived!

The Darkscale Helm is now available from the DC Cosmetics shop for 300 Dragon Coins!

And that's all for this week!

I really appreciate the commitment to updating Book 1 without changing the story, and the changes so far have been great. The new Extreme Bassault fight was also nice - the old extreme fights have definitely been trivialized by modern gear, and I feel this one was just tough enough to be engaging without being Inn at the End of Time tier. As always, the new music really breathes life into the quests (although perhaps the peaceful Falconreach melody should be replaced while the town is under fire).

spoiler:

Mixing it up between single enemy hoards and separate enemies was a nice touch, caused me to go for the nuke instead of the multi a few times. The new fully burnt down town is also *incredible*, and I appreciate the old burnt down town still being accessible from the hero statues. The Falconreach weapons being accessible again also has me very giddy. Great job with the update, guys.

That being said, it's a bit of a bummer that the quest from the hero statues in South Falconreach (the Time Travel Fairies Time Tours) also redirect to the updated quests. I really only noticed it now since I have fond memories of the old town in the background while fighting Bassault and went to check, but this is also the case for the Undead Assault quest/war. I would consider leaving the legacy quests accessible from that statue, if at all possible.

We will see. But if experience taught us holds steady ever since Sir Jing, Sir Koffagus, and Treefort reimaginings, unsurprising if it is an irrevocable... update and deletion.

EDIT: It seems that it is still "preserved" in the Timeline somehow, but not all of it. Anything that was completely overwritten has been overwritten.

@Deni3000 - I completely agree. I wish legacy quests/classes were accessible post-revamp through a house item or statue/NPC in the game. I would splurge to be able to access poopy old quests or obsolete classes just to mess around with the game.

This was really cool to experience again! Though, as someone who just introduced another player to the game, you may want to make ice/water weapons more readily available before these quests since the Bassault is pretty challenging without them.

Did you accidentally confront the EXTREME mode of the fight? Just simulated the normal mode of the fight with Mage (my Base Class) and equipping nothing but Chaotic Blade of Swordhaven III and Twilly and came out on top without issues (0 pots consumed despite them maxed out on all kinds of Alchemy). Of course, considering my level, you would have to also assume that this hypothetical "new player" is already level 14 for full skill access.

EDIT: Re-ran my sim with zero trained stats. It is likely that a level 14 might chug at least one MP pot, but it shouldn't be too disruptive in the big picture. So, while a Water/Ice weapon will make the fight "easier", only under the context that you are afraid of a damage race that is only somewhat noticeable. Hence, weakness exploitation here is not really forced.

Helpful!

Well done again! I like how streamlined these old wars are, to make them still feel like active events in the game!

Well, usually when player is doing these quests without farming, they are about lvl 9-11. And a new player might not have all the experience you have, or knowledge. And health scaling doesn't feel nearly as big as lvl 90 as it feels at lvl 9. So I would recommend you to create a brand new character and do your testing with that to get more accurate experience.

For this, fighting Gananana gives you a lvl 9 Water weapon! It does require a DA however. But part of the gameplay experience is to explore the game a little and see what it offers. Serenity does offer some water/ice weapons as well, remember to advice your friend to explore the world and do some side quests as well!

Hmm, at level 10, the normal fight against the Primordial Bassault should have about 671 HP. It's got -100 ice and water base resistance, but thanks to Molten Shell, it starts with +50 All resistance at max HP so that makes it effectively -50 res at first. With one of the water/ice weapons suggested above and with proper shielding, it should be doable at that level. Molten Fury doesn't scale as much boost and doesn't even get any bonus on the normal fight. At level 10 you also have 280 HP before END and your potions should heal 230 HP before Health res, so this should be more than enough to beat it.

With all that said, I definitely love what's been done this release. Making the quests more streamlined, having you actually do the quest with Alteon in it so the player knows that he even exists, and the overall atmosphere created from the addition of music make this a solid release. *thumbs up*

The ErosionSeeker
*insert cheesy pun here*

There are a couple of reliable water/ice weapons available from looking around. Aside from Gananana which is DA, you have Chillfury and Frozen Kris available from shops, as well as potentially hitting a water weapon in a random quest. It's not great that your options are pretty limited this early in, which seems to be why Bassault is fairly easily beatable at level 10 even with just Adventurer's Spear.

Or the appropriately leveled Sir Jing weapon.

Speaking of Sir Jing, round three on the sims with a max level Sir Jing's Dagger (that's level 80) with Mage still feels like "Behold, a man". While you can contest HP, what I can tell you MP is barely an issue despite adding the parameter "assume a level 9 combat". Never expended 100 MP.

Now this sounds like that fickle attempt to "devil's advocate" that I saw in the DF reddit. I shan't partake in this.

Laeon my guy, it would be absolutely marvelous if you could converse like a normal human being. Currently I doubt that many people read your posts unless it is specifically to argue with them.
