Chapter 1: Rain

* * * * *

A man and his girlfriend were out on a vast open field of bright a bright bed of mother nature. The wind blew gently as it swept across the long green grass. It began to waver like the ripples in the ocean; ever so softly little rustling was emitted by the moving grass. It was truly a wonderful sight. The sun was just faintly over the mountains, but it was just good enough to create a romantic feel to it. They both were young, just about nineteen and they were going out on their day off. There was a picnic set up right under a shady tree and there was nothing to ruin this wonderful date. Everything was set up beautifully and perfectly even the day, the time, and the mood.

"Honey look at this flower," said Helen as she picked up a red and white flower. "Oh my, it smells like cherries and creme!" The man sat on the blanket and called her over.

"Come on Helen." said Deren as he pulled out an apple from the basket of food. Helen came over with the flower and handed it over to Deren.

"No way," Deren said shocked, "It does smell like cherries!" Helen began to laugh and Deren followed after. A loud boom destroyed this happy meeting and tarnished the good feelings.

* * * * *

Deren opened his eyes to see the red and white flower in his gloved hands and a sword in the other. He glanced upon a bunch of other people around taking cover behind debris and walls. A tall dark skinned man stood in front of him with a canteen and rations. As Deren peered up at this man, he realized that the stranger was oddly familiar for reasons unknown to him.

"Are you going to just sit there?" The man said as he splashed Deren with the water from the canteen. "Come on Reign!"

"Reign...?" Questioned Deren as he looked upon his memories through confused thoughts. He grabbed his sword and leaned up against the wall he was sleeping on. It all came back him, he was in a war. This war had all started when someone demolished a beloved village and the people soon discovered it was another race who had fallen prey to the King of the Darklands. He remembered why he was in this war as the flashback of Helen in a hospital injured as result of an explosion.

The flower in his hand dropped into a puddle of water and rippled as Deren looked into the puddle. Deren looked at his reflection and stared it down, he was wearing a dark headband that covered sweat from his eyes and the battle suit that standard soildiers are given. He also looked at his black hair and bold blue eyes and remembered how old he was.

"It's been six years since I last saw her," said Deren as he looked at the flower. "I wonder how she is."

"Incoming fireball!" yelled Captain Shade, but most soldiers called him Capt. Shadow. Deren rolled to the left to avoid the fireball about to destroy his cover. Dirt, Snow, Psych, Sparks, and A-Zero were providing front and back cover. He decided to move in and strike the spell casters to provide a good assault for the others. Deren ran in using the debris of battle as good cover and jumped into the air. The mages were caught off guard and Deren came down with his sword on one of the three mages.

"How dare you!" yelled the other mage as he unleashed a barrage of fireballs. Deren pulled his sword out and blocked one of the fireballs as he raised his glove to repel it quickly. The other fireball missed and hit the mage's ally in a failed attempt. Quickly Deren threw his sword at the last mage without much effort. His sword impaled the mage in the heart then made it's way back to Deren's hands. The blade was enveloped in blood, but slowly it began to dissipate as the sword absorbed the magical essence straight from the blood.

"Thanks again Chronos." said Deren as he put his sword back into the sheath of his back. "We've been through a lot together especially in my first battle." The other soldiers finally caught up and were out of breathe.

"Dang, Reign you can slow down it's not like we're in a rush or nothing." said Dirt with his usual humor. Deren wasn't paying attention and was looking into the sky and the clouds. Phoenix noticed and started getting angry. "What are you staring at!"

"The Rain, you hot head." said Deren as the drops of water fell on his face. The sky went dim with dark clouds and rain came down in a down pour. The rain was Deren's favorite thing because it reminded him of his childhood and how it use to rain almost twice a week.

Dirt started laughing and so did Snow.

"So Reign enjoys the rain hey?" Dirt said with a grin, as Snow chuckled.

"You'll enjoy the mud when I put you into it." Deren said under his breath. Captain Shade walked up into the conversation trying to end it.

"Save the fighting for our enemies guys," the Captain said in a stern voice. They set up camp and kept their weapons close by and tried to keep watch. The Captain walked by Deren and with each step the memories and thoughts slowly augmented together like a piece into a puzzle. A memory flashed in his head...

* * * * *

It was about five years ago when he first met Captain Jonas Shade, it was when he first joined the army. Deren was a total newbie and did not know what he was doing. Everyone made fun of him for messing up or failing the training courses. One day he was out training late at night during a thunder storm and was too tired to move, but still kept training. Soon enough he ran out of energy and fell face first into the mud.

"Is that all you've got," a mysterious voice said mockingly. Deren looked up at the tree near by and it was Shade, but the difference was he was alot younger and wasn't a captain. He got up wearingly and picked up his sword. "Good that's it", Shade said with a grin on his face. Shade was one of the best in the class, high test scores in both tactical and physical areas.

"Thanks," Deren said hesitatingly.

"No problem, Rain Man." Shade chuckled.

* * * * *

Captain Shade was like mentor to him and only him, but he never knew why. They were like brothers, but they never acted like it. They also kept one another's backs no matter what, and now, on the battlefield, they were equals. "Reign Man and Shade..." Deren whispered to himself before hiding a soft grin.

Chapter 2: Clouds

Morning came, but you could hardly tell because of the heavy cloud cover. Deren let out a big yawn as he slowly brought himself to getting up out of bed. After freshing up a bit he stuck his head outside the place he and his commrades were staying. It was an abandoned house, sure it was beat up, but it still was conventional enough for them to stay there shortly. He started to walk outside and through the doorless exit, his arid eyes just looked down at the ground. Barely paying attention he trips over a piece of rubble and lands on his on his side.

"Man, that hurt." said Deren as he looked around at his surroundings. Suddenly he noticed he was in a heavy fog and couldn't see the Shelter. The fog laid thickly over the land and blinded anyone who was silly enough to get trapped in it. Deren could barely see his own hands and feet and still looked for the shelter. Yet, he still couldn't see anything and still remained calm. The Academy taught it students well in keeping your cool in any situation.

Deren stood up and try to think of a way out of this mess. Yelling wouldn't help because they'd get lost in here too and smashing things at random wouldn't either. "Got it." an idea popped into Deren's head. His hand looked as if he was holding a sphere, but he was gathering magical energy into his palm. The orb of fire stood brightly as it danced in his hand and it would be the guide he needed to get free. Deren threw the fire at a random direction in hope that it'd land where he wanted it too. The fireball landed on what looked like a sky scraper and you could see it clearly through the fog. Deren ran towards the building, leaping and sprinting in attempt to avoid the remains of battle.

Suddenly Deren stopped in front of a eight foot wall and put his back against it. He heard a sound from the distance, it sounded like a twig snapping or some brick falling of a building. His eyes opened wide as he ducked down almost instantly. An axe flew over his head
and stabbed into the wall. Deren looked up to a see a Minotaur holding the axe, but was stuck into the wall. The beast was heavy muscled with a dark brown fur, sharp and pointy horns, and the signature bull legs.

"Aw, are you stuck little buddy?" Mocked Deren as he stood up and jumped onto the wide blade on the axe. "Let me help you!" He jumped backwards and kicked the beast strongly in the face. The minotaur was pushed back as it tried to regain it's footing. It snorted as it stepped it's foot down in preparation. Deren was about to draw his sword, but chuckled as he returned it back into it's sheath. The minotaur charged forward quickly and fiercely and Deren stood readily. Suddenly it disappeared into the fog and Deren couldn't see it.

"The fire!" He looked attentively as it went out; sending the complete area back into a dismal fog. "I'm in big trouble." The minotaur threw a wild punch and Deren couldn't defend himself as he felt the blow connect to his face. He crawled to a safe spot to think of next move, but he still knew the Minotaur would find him soon. Deren picked up a handful of dust and threw it into the air. Suddenly he dropped kicked the bull as it revealed itself from the fog. The Minotaur was confused, mainly on how Deren found out his location. He didn't even bother to explain as he began gathering a magical energy into the seat of his palm. The particles of a fine azure and a valuable teal began swirling around his hand and connecting within his palm.

After the charge was successful Deren released the magic from out of his palm. It came in the form of energy as the magic became focused into a beam of power that hit the minotaur dead on. The Minotaur flew back and was most asuredly dead as Deren began to run up the wall of the sky scraper. He was starting to lose energy from and started losing his footing. "I guess the battle took out alot more than I thought." said Deren as jolted his sword into the wall for support. He made it to the top and held his sword up into the air, he was now up inside the main clouds. Deren began to swing his sword in a circle, "Cronos, let's do this!" The ancient symbols on Cronos started to glow a bright gold and a cylinder of energy started to circle Deren.

"Time Reversal!" commanded Deren as he pointed the sword up into the sky. Slowly the clouds were dissipating and birds were flying backwards as the sun started to reveal itself. After the sun fully revealed itself everything stopped and Deren fell in complete exhaustion. He looked as the rest of the gang came out of the Shelter, "I'll sleep here for a bit."

Chapter 3: Blaze

There was a family sitting by the fire having a good time and enjoying themselves over snacks and stories of old adventures. Everyone was laughing, having a good time and they didn't care about a thing. There in the fun of everything was a little boy, only age 7 when his whole world was turned around. A Hawk flew by and dropped a letter onto the dad's lap. After picking it up and reading it, his face sadened into a concerning frown. Mom then read the letter and she began to cry and the boy didn't know what was happening.

"The War has started and they're calling me in." said the Dad angrily in the arms of his crying wife. He began to pack his things into a bag and put on a soildiers' uniform. The boy stumbled into the room curiously to his father.

"Dad we're you going?" he said as he sat down near his feet. The father leaned over and ran his hands through his son's hair and patted him. "I'm going, to work." after letting go of his son and walking out. "Remember, I'll always love you." The boy looked at the his father leave through the door after hugging his wife and didn't understand.

11 Years Later...the mother received another letter and began to gasp in horror. The son was now 17 and came to his mother's side.

"Mom, what's wrong?" he said trying to look at the letter, but his mother would not let him. "Mom!"

"Your father, he died," she said trying to remain strong for her son. "Now Deren they want you to join the army, the army that killed your father." He stood there in awe and complete shock, trying to let out the words. Only tears came out his eyes as he grasped his mother.

* * * * *

Deren awoke from his slumber and barely remembered the battle from earlier. "I hope she's okay." he whispered into the air. Then he heard the screams of his comrades and looked down the skyscraper. "How am I going to get down there?" Deren looked around to the place where he reversed time and began to jump down.

"What is he doing?" yelled Snow as he saw the body begin to descend. The Captain started to run alongside the building, waiting for the exact time to jump and catch him. The team started to cross their fingers hoping that they both would make it out okay. The Captain caught him and dropped him onto the ground safely. He stood staring down at Deren in anger.

"Why'd you have to ruin my fun Captain?" Deren said as he patted the dust off of his uniform. He looked into his leader's eyes and saw the fire, the fierce desire. The Captain took off his jacket and put his hands up ready for a fight. Deren knew what he had to do and prepared for battle. "Think you can take me, old man?" said Deren arrogantly while holding his fists up.

The tension between them got intense and the clash of energies began to raise the temperature. The Captain looked at Deren and didn't say anything, as he began his attack. Slowly a stretched arm was coming toward him, but Deren couldn't move in time. Deren opened his eyes as he was flying back and saw the Captain doing something. Right before he hit the wall a hand made of darkness grabbed him and began crushing his body. Deren let out one word as he body was being compressed to describe this situation, "Umbral Claw."

He could barely keep himself conscious, but almost heard the Captain say something like give up or surrender. Deren yelled furiously as he struggled to break free. The Captain closed his opened hand tightly to finish the bout off. All you could hear was the screams off pain and suffering.

The Rain started again....

The Captain stood still almost grinning manically, as if he did something right. Deren was faced down in the ground with his hand opened facing the Captain's direction. The Captain fell to his knees onto the ground and was heading face first, until Dirt caught him. The Captain laughed "Not bad kid," Deren was still face down on the ground, but smoke was coming from his hand. "He got me...." Dirt looked into his hands as the Captain disappeared into a shadow. He came down from the sky and jabbed his sword into Deren. The Captain was shocked to see that Deren also used a substitute, only difference was he used water.

"Looking for me, Captain?" laughed Deren as he dropped kicked him from the back. The Captain fell to the ground and began sliding, "He learns quickly." Deren began running towards him holding his sword for a vertical swing. The Captain saw a spike coming up from the ground and grabbed it quickly as he was sliding. He swung and tripped Deren to the ground before he could attack him. Deren's sword flew into the air as he fell to the ground.

Deren's back hit up against the base of the spike and opened his eyes. His sword was at his neck, the Captain had won. "The day you can take me out will be the day you can do whatever you feel like Reign." Captain Shade said with a smirk as he held out his hand to help Deren up and gave his sword back. After shaking hands in admiration of a good battle they both began to laugh like madman.

"That time will come soon Old Man so don't forget it." Reign responded behind a witty smile.

Chapter 4: Sound

The Team stealthily advanced forward through the rummage and debris. After a moving just about half a mile they spotted the Dwellows, a race of dwelling shadows that were infused with a cursed Hollow. Known throughout the land for their superior hearing abilities, these bad boys could here a pin drop from over two miles away. Needless to say, ambush was their speciality. The Team couldn't speak because they would definitely hear them talking and call in their allies. Psych, a psychic operative capable of telekinesis, was able to transmit thoughts into waves, which allowed the team to communicate mentally

"Alright kids, luckily there's a weakness to these pests." said the Captain as he looked over towards the Dwellows. "Every so often they have to take a break and turn off their ears and use their eyes. At this time we'll use a flash spell, unfortunately the effects are short and we won't make it through in time. That's when Reign slows down time for those freaks and hopefully we can make it through. So...any questions?"

Snow speaks in worry, "Yeah, it takes a lot of energy to make that possible, I don't think Reign can do it." Everyone nods in agreement, besides the Captain. Psych warns that he is running out of power and can't do this for long.

"Have faith." said the Captain as they began the operation. "Move Out!" Their eyes opened as they the transmission ended and got ready for the mission.
It was coming closer, the timer was running out, and the deadline was coming up. They looked closely as at the Dwellows, waiting for the right moment, only ten seconds remained. Dirt worded the countdown without saying it, "Five....Four.....Three....Two....On-" A boulder came down right in front of them and created a loud boom. The team dodge, but they were in the open and now the Dwellows got their position. Who threw that was the question going on in their minds.

"On the cliff to the North-East." said Psych as he pointed in the right direction. Everyone looked, but tried to keep their eye out for Dwellows. The figure looked like a man, but it was to hard to tell.

"Hello...Squad 5." said the mysterious figure as he jumped towards them. He wore a uniform just like them, but it was changed. The Captain's eyes opened wide as he discovered who the person was.

"Roger Kinnley aka Sound Wave." said Captain Shade after getting a good glance at him.

"So you do remember me?" said Sound Wave as he walked forward. "Good."

"Still mad about me kicking you off the squad?" said the Captain mockingly.

"Besides that, I'm angry you replaced me with that punk." responded Sound Wave as he pointed toward Reign. He clenched his pointed hand into a ball and started laughing. The Dwellows picked up Shade, Snow, Dirt, Psych, and the other members and pulled them away from Reign. Sound Wave unleashed a wave of sound, "Sonic Boom!" Reign unsheathed his sword and attempted to block the attack with an sheild of energy. The block was succesfull, but Reign could only hear a loud ring and it wouldn't go away.

He was like a sitting duck and he couldn't hear a thing. Another wave of sound forced Reign against a wall this time and then he unleashed a barrage of sound so intense you could see it. Reign just kept getting hit and cut up, untill he thought of an idea. He held up his sword in a straight vertical before the next attack. The attack was blocked and Reign had some time after reading his stance. Sound Wave was doing a rant and Reign read some words from his lips. 'Insolant....Brat.....Sonic Boom!" thought Reign as he figured the words. The wave came at him and he ducked at the last minute, but still got hit by the aftershock. The wave went past and through the wall behind him.

Sound Wave began to laugh, as if he had won. He was getting to cocky and left himself open. Reign ran towards him with his sword, but Sound Wave took out a grenade, but Reign didn't know which one. A giant flash came out and now Reign was blind as a bat and still couldn't hear. Sound Wave got close and pulled his sword out and prepared to cut his head off. "Goodbye, you Pest!" he screamed as the blade came down.

Blood splattered on the ground and it was hard to tell who was the victor. Sound Wave stepped back holding his side, trying to stop it from bleeding. Everything cleared up and Reign could hear and see again. "How did you;" said Sound Wave near speechless as he stepped back in awe.

"It was simple, after the attack that missed the Sonic Boom hit your little Bwellows and made them deaf. Now my team was able to beat them with ease and help me out. Psych over there gave me directions to find you and predict your every move. The rest was easy for me to accomplish." said Reign as he sheathed his sword.

"That was genius." said Sound Wave.

"Thanks, but now it's time to end this." said as he cracked his knuckles.

"No! Never!" he got ready for another sound move.

Reign clapped his hands together and a wave of visible sound came out, "Roar of Thunder!"

"How...?" said Sound Wave, before he was sent flying into a building. The building collapsed and Reign walked towards his team. They all looked at Reign as he entered the gang again.

"So he's dead?" said Snow.

"You ok now?" asked Dirt.

"I guess and I'm safe and sound." Reign grinned, trying not to laugh at his own pun.

Chapter 5: Quake

Squad 5 continued their search of the area, constantly keeping an eye out for enemy forces. The weird thing was, as they progressed more and more all they saw was fallen cities and villages. They weren't trapped in an illusion and there wasn't any open field or grass for miles on end.

"Man does these land ever end?" sighed Snow as they continued on. No one answered, but Dirt was quieter then usual. "Dirt, are you ok?" Snow wondered.

Dirt looked over with a forced smile on his face, "I'm fine" It only made Snow more curious as he stared deeply at Dirt. He wasn't paying attention and slammed against a Sign. The whole Squad started laughing, except Dirt.

"Looks like you broke the ice, hey Show?" chuckled Psych with a big grin. They all continued laughing until the ground began shaking intensely. The earthquake stopped after a few minutes and they looked for what caused it.

"That wasn't an ordinary earthquake," said the Captain. "Go and find reconnaissance on this place." The team split up to find the origin of the earthquake.
High and low they searched around the surrounding area. No one found anything until Snow found a huge crack in the ground, "Guys over here!" Snow looked down the giant crack curiously to see what was inside. The team went towards the sound of Snow's voice and finally reached the location. Snow was on the ground beat up and bashed, as they entered the area.

"Snow!" yelled Dirt as he moved in, but Reign put his arm in the way to hold him back.

"Could be a trap, not to mention it could be waiting to get another one of us." said Reign as he put his arm out of Dirt's way. Out of nowhere a maniacal laugh echoed across the area. The team looked around for the source of the laughter in anticipation of an attack. "Just come out you coward," demanded Reign. Psych pointed his staff towards a standing building as the mysterious person stepped out of the shadows.

"The name's Geo." said the man while swinging his Terran axe in a circle. The team saw the signature patch of Squad 7 on his uniform.

"Another traitor to the S.O.A.S?" said Captain Shade. Dirt stared down Geo with intense hatred, as he clenched his fist.

Geo laughed, "Ha, I'm a rogue agent! I do not work for S.O.A.S." He kicked Snow while he was still down and then picked him up. Geo smirked as he threw Snow against a wall. Dirt got even madder as he started running towards Geo, "How dare you!" Psych tried to follow, but Reign reminded him that it wasn't their fight, and thus, they had no right to interrupt.

A little boy's laughter filled the area as he played with his toys. He accidentally dropped his toy ship on a rock and it broke in half. The little boy began crying non-stop at his loss. Then his older brother came outside and picked up the toy.

"It'll be ok, little bro." said the brother as he light green glow covered the toy and his hand. "There it's all better." The little boy was happy again and hugged his brother in appreciation. They both smiled as they looked over each other's shoulders.

"I love you big brother." the little brother attempted to say.....

* * * * *

Geo and Dirt went at each other non-stop, both using Earth powers. Dirt yelled, "Why brother, why can't we go back to the way things were?" Geo punched him after saying it and got angry, "There is no happy ending, Little Brother." His axe came swinging down toward Dirt fiercely. Dirt put his hand on some open ground as a shining dark green light emitted from it and he pulled up his hammer in time to block. He pushed back to knock Geo off guard and to get him off his back. Geo stepped back and prepared for another attack. Dirt stepped up and took a defensive stance.

"Aren't they both Defensive masters?" asked Psych.

"Yeah, but rumors said Geo was trained in pure offense at the Advanced Academy for the Gifted." said Captain Shade watching the battle closely.

"Ahhh," said Psych as it came back to him. "and Dirt trained in combat and magic fighting." Dirt slammed his hammer and earth spikes arose from the ground under Geo. Unfortunately he already saw it coming and jumped in the air. Dirt grinned as the spikes began to grow larger and extend towards Geo. He was caught off guard, but he swung his axe in mid-air and the spikes crumbled. Before Geo landed he swung his axe toward the ground and earth pillars formed. Pillar after pillar came towards Dirt until the fifth one formed under him. Dirt jumped back and smashed the pillar into pieces with his hammer. The pieces started moving and came after Dirt instantly. They started to cover his leg and began weighing it down quickly to the point of no mobility.

He fell to the ground and couldn't move. Geo held a giant boulder in his hands and threw it at Dirt to finish the job. The ten foot boulder broke into pieces as Dirt used his stone covered leg to demolish it. This time the pieces turned into sand and dirt as they fell to the ground.

"What's the matter, Bro?" laughed Dirt as he moved the sand around. "Can't concentrate your energy small enough to control sand?"
The sand danced around him in a funnel-like shape, waiting for the exact moment for a command. Dirt pointed his finger towards Geo as the tidal wave of sand came at him with intense force. The sand stopped in it's place and it wasn't by Dirt's command.

"What's the matter, Lil Bro?" laughed Geo as the sand turned into glass quickly. "Can't use your energy or your strength to pull a volcano out from the center of the planet?" Dirt didn't know what to do next as the lava came towards him. He jumped up high into the air still holding his hammer close by.

Dirt closed his eyes to concentrate, 'Hey Gaia you there?' He waited for a response from his hammer. "Of course I am," said Gaia, the Spirit-res of Dirt's Hammer. "I'll always be there for you."

'Good because it's time.' said Dirt as he opened his eyes. The hammer began to glow dark green again as Dirt prepared for his ultimate attack. "Gaia Earth Crusher!" he yelled as he fell down towards the ground quickly. His hammer connected with the earth and the ground of the world.

Reign looked into Dirt's eyes, "Guys we need to move away." Psych picked up Snow as him and Shade walked away from the area. Reign walked them to a safer distance. Soon after giant spikes arose from the ground again, but this time they were over a mile long and the spikes went on for about a mile also. After a few minutes the spikes dissapeared as Dirt fell to the ground due to exhaustion.
Reign and the rest of them healed Dirt and Snow and rested for the next day.

Chapter 6: Abstract

Morning time came as the sunlight enveloped the little camp they had set up to provide them with protection for the night. Reign's eyes opened quickly and, just as quickly adjusted to the sudden burst of light. His hand raised to block the sun from his still weak pupils, but suddenly he caught a faint violet glint in the corner of his left eye. Suddenly he paused and he rolled to the side just in time. The violet glow came closer until it hit the resting place Reign had created.

Reign couldn't see who did this, but noticed a figure standing on the horizon of the damaged building near by. Suddenly, another beam of light came towards him, though this time it was a faint gold that blended in with the sun. Reign drew his sword quick enough to block the beam of light coming towards him, but something was wrong. His vision became a bit faded; he felt a bit dizzy but it didn't stop him. Another beam of light was coming and this time Reign could hear it as his right ear twitched accordingly. Reign's eyes point to the right as he was about to move until he noticed something wrong. His right arm and leg became numb as well as his body. The beam was coming closer and Reign didn't know why he couldn't move. His eyes were still able to move freely as he looked down to see his sword was covered in a azure static energy. It had moved it's way up to his shoulder then his body completely paralyzing him.

The beam of light kept coming closer and Reign couldn't move; he closed his eyes in anticipation of defeat. After a flash and the sound of lighting crashing into an object there was silence. "Are you ok, Reign?" Asked a voice within his head. Reign grinned before he opened his eyes and spoke, "I hate you quiet types always so sneaky." He looked over Psych's shoulder to see a barrier around them. Psych turned his head far enough to get a side view of Reign. Reign looked into Psych's eyes knowing the friendship that they had made in the Academy when they were freshman. "What's wrong Psych, is your blindfold to tight?" He said with a pain induced smile.

* * * * *

Though Psych was blind he could always see the aura of someone and know who they are. In every person there's an aura and there are never two of a kind. He was always unique in his own way and he never had to bark to get a person's attention. Being a psychic was his gift and was always his curse and a burden to carry ever since childhood. He could always hear the thoughts of people whether they were good or bad until he learned how to control it. Whenever someone got him angry he would lose control of his powers and start breaking things. He lost sight one day when a bandit threw a flash grenade into his face. He had saved his comrade's life, but paid for his actions dearly with his eyesight. Ever since he had to get use to being blind, but at the same time he harvested his psychic prowess into something of high levels.

* * * * *

Psych looked away as he spoke to Reign mentally again, "Are you okay?" Suddenly Reign stood straight as he cracked his knuckles and shoulders. "I'm just perfect," He then readies his blade once more as Psych turns around again to look at him. "What? Forget my body adjusts to the battle as time progresses?" Psych just nods his head from side to side as he continues to block the attacks. Reign started thinking out his plan and then nodded to Psych as he said, "Ready...Go!" The shield dropped and Reign began running towards the building. He swung his sword towards a beam of light and reflected it back towards the figure. Quickly Reign began leaping up the wall moving behind the beam of light.

Reign flips over the side and behind the figure before the light hits. The figure moves his attention towards the Reign as he flipped over him. He then was hit by the reflected light and fall to his knees. Reign was impressed by this awesome combination, but was surprised to see he was still standing. His form rippled with odd colors as the light hit him. He was now all pale green from his skin even to his hair. Reign walked up the pale green figure and tried to touch it seeing as how it had no response. His hand passed right through it and Reign backed up slowly.

"It's an Illusion." He then turned around a complete 360 degrees as his ear twitched again. A barrage of light rods bombarded Reign in both his arms, legs and his body. He then fell off the building, unable to move. His blade slowly began slipping from his hand as he tried to not die from this fall. Reign's eyes began to close, hoping Psych would help him...Hoping anyone could help him...He fell into the darkness...

Chapter 7: Shadow

As Reign descended further into the darkness he opened his eyes. He was in his bed as he looked around cautiously. "What, I thought..." Reign didn't know what was going on or if anything that happened with real or just a dream. Captain Shade walked up to Reign with a disappointed scowl on his face as he placed his hand on Reign's armor and lifted him from off the ground. There was an awkward silence that instilled a worry into Reign's head and left an agonizing thoughts to run through his head. Suddenly Captain Shade spat out his toothpick that sat gracefully in his bearded mouth then looked into Reign's eyes disgustedly.

"Why in your right mind would you be so reckless!?!?" He said as he drove Reign into a wall with the same hand that kept him off the ground. "Pathetic, absolutely pitiful!" Reign as then thrown towards the ground like a rag doll by Captain Shade. "Really who do you think you are? You certainly aren't a hotshot who thinks he can do anything." He then looked away from Reign as he ordered Snow and Psych to lock up someone. Reign looked past Captain Shade do see who this was, but he could not recognize his face. Captain Shade looked back at Reign with the corner of his eye noticing he still has yet to get back up. "You see that? He was the guy you couldn't handle apparently. His name is Glare, and he can bend and refract light to damage his opponent. He can also create illusions that look almost real from a distance."

"I would've handled him, " Reign said as he picked himself up.

"Oh really? You would've fooled me by that display." Captain Shade said with an angry tone in his voice that turned sarcastic quickly. "Wait I didn't know winning meant getting shot off a building and nearly dying. Well I should try that sometime and see how well that works out. In the meantime I'll be working like a team like we should be doing." He walked off to the others to help them throw Glare into teleportation pod linked directly to the jail back in Alaphae, the city of the condemned. Reign didn't like this idea and so ran up to Captain Shade unaware he was doing so.

"Don't send him there! Why can't we interrogate him? Why do we always have to ship them there and interrogate him?" Reign questioned frantically as he stood in Captain Shade's path.

"Because," Captain Shade pushed Reign out of his way lightly. "did you forget? Captain Valier makes sure his puppets are placed under a curse that kills them if they even mutter his name. Humph, some Second in Command you've turned out to be." He kept his pace after dusting off and correcting his shirt. Reign felt lower than the low not just because he did not ever consider working together with Psych to help each other take Glare down, but how badly he tainted the name Second in Command. Slowly he walked up to where he had almost fallen to his death to search for his sword.

"Where's my sword?" He looked around for it everywhere and asked everyone, but got the same unappealing answer over and over again. It was lost and no one knew where it was, but Reign wasn't going to stop trying. Reign tried a different approach this time as he closes his eyes in attempt to find it's connection. He looked up quickly into the air around him as soon as he heard the sound of a raven whistling into the area around it. Despite the fact it was known that no animal could survive this ominous fog, but it stood there on the handle of his sword that was stuck in a wall of the building he fell off. Reign hesitates as he begins to run up the wall. Suddenly his foot slips as he beings to fall again, but he quickly grabs the handle of his sword.

The raven moved over quickly to the edge of the blade as if he was mocking Reign. It's beak looked like a twisted smile to Reign as he looked at it's over all qualities. His eyes, it was something about his rusted gold eyes that reminded Reign of something haunting, something unforgettable.

A red ball fell into the middle of the street and bounced on to the other side of where the kid kicked it. There a kid, no older than seven stood on the side of street with his foot still in the air. He watched as his ball crossed the road and fell into a dumpster on the other side of the street.

"Go get it!" A little boy yelled, impatiently. Slowly everyone started to join in like a flock of crows squawking at one thing and the kid grew irritated as he crossed the road safely. As he walked up to the dumpster he noticed it wasn't in there and was ready to go back.

"Is this yours?" Surprisingly a small, soft, yet fragile voice came from behind the kid. He jumped as he turned around to see another kid who's eyes were nearly hidden behind long dirty black hair. His skin was a pale white and brought out the color of his hair almost too noticabley. There were rumors about these kids, people who denied the society around them and yet lived peacefully.

"Thank you," The kid said as he took the ball of his hands gently and then let out a soft smile. "Bye and thanks again kid." He said as crossed the straight still smiling and waving to the other kid.

Reign's eyes stopped looking into the raven's as it flew away off into the dense fog. He suddenly scowls his face as swings his body back and forth until his feet meet with the wall his sword was stuck in. After getting a strong stance he quickly crouched his legs to make two incomplete triangles. "One...two..three!" He then pushed up, completely pulling out the sword. His body smoothly turned just right enough from him to land of the side of the other building as he leaped from building to building. After a few minutes of shouting out his success he finally comes down to the ground.

Captain Shade was eating his unfrozen meal until Reign walks up to the camp. He stands up to meet Reign's heated vision in attempt to counteract it's ferocity. "Do you need something Commander?" He questioned almost waiting for a fight to ensue. Reign grinned expectantly before he spoke back.

"I am Second in Command because I face my fears and crush them!" He said to Captain Shade. "Also I'm Second in Command because if the time comes I will take you down." Reign turned away slowly as he walked off proudly.

Chapter 8: Fear

Night time finally came to it's fullest as the sun slowly descended over the horizon and let the moon show it's pale face. Reign sat patiently on top of a building waiting for his eyes to become heavy and his body to become tired. The cold air and the moon light had a certain beauty to it that only it could show off on the stage. Everyone was already asleep and Reign was hoping he would be next to follow, but something had been keeping him up. A feeling that made his stomach seem full of anxiety and fear for the unknown. Some might call it paranoia, but Reign felt as if there was something amiss in this darkness. Everything was already asleep and Reign was hoping he would be next to follow...

There he sat happily in his seat next to his mother and father as they watched the circus bemusedly. A young boy of seven held his mother's hand tightly as he watched the monsters due their tricks and the people perform their representations of athletic and creative skills. A firework went off with a bang within the tent, the boy flinched unexpectedly. "Mommy..." The boy called out innocently.

"Yes son?" She looked into her child's eyes in response to his beckon.

"How do they get fire into those sticks?" He asked like any other curious little kid would.

"Well it's a special thing within us all son," Her answer would soon be followed by the kindest of smiles. "A special force we call Magic." After she said this, she like the many others around her stood up quickly to look over towards a sudden interruption. The child couldn't see for he was too short, but through the panic he heard the sound of pain from echoed screaming.

Reign's eyes opened in a flash as he heard an audible stepping noise coming from near by. He looked down to see it was just Captain Shade walking to the bathroom. After noticing it was just Captain Shade he yawned, slowly falling back into his wondrous sleep. Captain Shade finished up soon after then went on his way back to his tent to sleep.

"Hahaha..." A sudden laugh echoed throughout the camp-site piercingly. Captain Shade stopped in his tracks trying to find the interrupter of this melodious slumber, this peaceful slumber. His eyes looked back and forth as he turned around in circles continuously. Though Captain Shade was a some what humble man, he wasn't really fond of fun and games.

"Alright stop being such a coward. If you want to fight then I suggest you recollect on your past regrets now." Captain Shade said, confidently though he was without his blade. He waited for a response and for the right moment to strike him down as soon as he speaks.

"Hahahaha," The voice was closer this time and more audible then ever. Captain Shade then reached into his pocket and pulled out two throwing knives quickly. As fast as he drew these projectiles he threw them towards the origin of the impetuous laughter. Quickly the daggers moved throughout the midnight air until it struck a shadow created by an artificial light that sat against the wall. Captain Shade watched attentively as the daggers struck the mysterious person in the head from the shadow-puppet of a show. The shadow fell to the ground soon after and Captain Shade couldn't be more impressed as he walked up to where the person was struck.

"What!" Captain Shade yelled as he saw the display before his eyes. There, right in front of him laid a voice-creating machine, a light orb, and a doll creating the illusion. His eyes looked closer to see there was another box though this one was labeled: "To Squad 5." Captain Shade cursed under his breath as he saw the timer reach down to zero until his life would end by the hands of a trickster. The bomb went off quickly almost making no sound as the push back boomed throughout the area.

Debris, smoke, the fog, everything was enveloped within this mass storm of destruction. Suddenly a figure descended into the smoke and landed perfectly. Captain Shade was forced into wall after the explosion hit so thoroughly, his breathing slowed...his pulse was fading...his heart grew cold... The figure walked up to Captain Shade, chuckling with each step as the figure approached him. "Hehehe, you were careless and this effected your decisions." He paced back and forth in-front of Captain Shade as if he was trying to make his death last a bit longer.

"Shame I heard you were the best Captain around and one of the youngest. Oh well now it's time to finish you!" He raised his rapier into the air as he withdrew it from it's sheath. Suddenly two daggers stabbed into the figure's spine a few seconds before his blade even came down. The figure looked up after coughing up blood onto the ground to see the Captain Shade begin to fade away. "Wha-" He tried to speak, but the sudden rush of suprise made him cough up more blood.

"You like the illusion I created..." Captain Shade said as he approached the figure from behind. He then snapped his fingers to reveal a dark dome surrounding them. "Your little bomb did nothing, but make a mess. It's ok though because now it's over and soon enough you'll die of blood loss." He walked up to the figure and turned him around to meet face to face, "It's a shame not know who I just killed; after all you do know me." As the figure turned his face followed slowly to reveal a face covered in paint and a red nose, "It can't be..."

Slowly Captain Shade began to step away from the man in haunting shock. "What's the matter Shadey? You look like you've seen a ghost." The expression on Captain Shade's face presented such as he continued to back up until he tripped onto his back.

The boy pushed his way through the crowd to see a group of clowns enter the building. He had always loved clowns because they always made him laugh. But this time...they were different. Only their faces were decorative while the rest of their body were covered in armor. They also held deadly weapons as they began to slaughter everything in their path. Fireworks shot off into the crowds exploding and burning people. Chaos ensued...."You're...you're Juggles...Captain...Juggles.." Captain Shade said, breathing heavily between each word. and people were being killed like they were nothing. As the people ran in panic the kid was separate from his parents.

People pushed into one another and they screamed and panicked as one by one they were killed.

"Mommy! Mommy!" The boy yelled redundantly as he reached his hand out to grab hers. Unfortunately the people were slowly separating them until the boy saw a sword go through his mother's skull. The crowd began to drag the boy off as he cried more and more for the loss....The boy felt helpless as he was dragged away..."

* * * * *

"Hahahahah! Mommy...mommy!" Captain Juggles laughed with a smile so wicked as it revealed rotten yellow teeth. Suddenly Captain Juggles heard the sound of Squad 5 catching up and retreated into the darkness. His laugh still echoed in Captain Shade's mind as he continued to cry. After the echo dissapated and Juggles faded into the shadows he said. "You'll never see her again...."

Chapter 9: Respect

* * * * *

The teacher stood in front of the chalk board holding a glowing white stone in his right hand and holding a text book in the other. As he wrote with white stone letters appeared as well as characters that also glowed upon the chalkboard. Behind him there was a class of twenty or less students taking notes along with the teacher. They were all no older than fifteen or sixteen and in the front of the class was Deren taking notes like no tomorrow. The Teacher suddenly stopped and turned around to ask a question. Deren raised his hand instantly as he knew the question and answer before the Teacher would even utter a word.

"Temporarily cut the power-lines then enter the building through the ventilation system. Leave two out of the five member group behind so one can look out and the other can create an audible distraction. The other three will also split up two of them will take care of the entrance door, just in case anyone enters. Now the single one will rescue the King and get out through an exit created by the two people outside." From the back of the class a student called out without raising his hand.

"Correct Mr. Endel, though you did call out. I'll let it slide...again." Said the Teacher as he marks a plus next to Kalen Endel and went back to writing on the board. Deren looked back to see who said it for he didn't know who that was. There he saw this "Mr. Endel" and he looked like a rebel in the making. His appearance seemed lazy and laid back instead clean cut and tight. This made Deren mad because he was loosing to a punk of a kid who had no respect. "Is there something amazing about the back of my class Mr. Xavien?" The teacher said as he waited for Deren to respond and pay attention.

"No Mr. Walton, Sir." Deren said as the class began to laugh at him. He then caught up on the notes, but his mind was still on about that Kid. Deren didn't know why, but he admired his courage and his free will to do what he wants. 'If only I can do the same' He thought as he stared into board like it was missing.

Reign walked up to Captain Shade and knelt beside him. "Captain are ok? Shade, come on man what's wrong!?!" He got no response from Captain Shade as he continued to sob pathetically.

"Go away!" Captain Shade yelled as his teary face met Reign's. Reign looked into his eyes confused on how to act towards the man he respected and followed. Unexpectedly Reign threw a fist towards Captain Shade clear in the face he was hit. After falling back Captain Shade only looked at Reign astondedly, not sure how to react though he felt as if he deserved it. He watched as Reign got up and walked away regardless of the state his Captain is in.

Reign stopped suddenly and looked over his shoulder, "As long as your like this you coward, you're no longer my Captain. Pathetic..." He then continued his way on back to the camp along with a slur of curse words and rude remarks. Psych sensed Reign's aura coming as it appeared as a bright red and began to warn the others about his mood. Snow walked out his tent and approached Reign, almost blocking his path.

"What's wrong Reign?" He asked openly so everyone could hear the conversation. Suddenly the whole squad began poking their heads out of nowhere trying to listen to the conversation. Reign looked at Snow and pushed him away light enough to get him out of his way. "Don't ignore us, just give us an answer!" Snow yelled at Reign as he was still trying to walk away.

After Snow stood back up Reign walked up to him and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. "You want to know, huh?" He swung Snow around and continued to yell at him. "You know your Captain right? Well he fell apart like a complete coward!" Reign then chucked Snow aside as pointed towards where the Captain was. "Now you all go by orders from now on make sure you're all ready by morning to move out or regret it in the morning." Said Reign as he went into his tent to sleep for the night.

Psych and Snow then went to Captain Shade and saw him sitting there quietly. They offered him help back to the camp and he refused as he pushed their hands away. "Just go away and leave me alone." He demanded as a Captain, but not as a person. As the loyal soldiers they are, Psych and Snow walked back to camp.

Hours pass, deeper into the Night and closer to the morning....

"Hahaha..." A sudden laugh echoed throughout the camp again. Reign's eyes and Shade's opened quickly and on the same millisecond as they began to hear the familiar laugh. He moved quickly towards the origin of the laugh as each step became faster. Shade on the other hand continued to lay on the ground contemplating some things about his life. Reign ran up a building needless of concentration and landed on the roof of it. His eyes adjusted quickly as he looked back and forth around his general area until he saw a voice-creating machine and a sign that read "Sucker!" in bold. Behind the sign was a bomb set up and a counter reaching zero and Reign was wide open.

The explosion went off and completely turned the building into rubble and everything else near the bomb. As the smoke and dust particles in the air disappeared onto the ground a wall of ice appeared. It protected Reign from the explosion and saved his life as well. He looked back at Snow and Psych and gave a grateful nod towards them. "I owe you guys..." He whispered to himself as he prepared his sword. The laugh appeared again, but this time not from the annihilated sound box and it annoyed Reign. "Show yourself you coward." He demanded.

"You silly fool, you must believe I'm a weakling like the rest of those S.O.A.S members." The voice circled around Reign in different directions and angles. Captain Juggles appeared right in front of Reign face to face, though his body was within the ice wall. Reign was to shocked to move like an animal caught in headlights. "Well kid you're up against a Captain. Think you can handle it?"

Chapter 10: Condescend

* * * * *

"I'm trembling," Smirked Reign as his words hinted a small sarcasm within them. "Let's see what I can do!" He swung his leg toward the base of the ice wall standing before him. Captain Juggles did not know how to respond as he watched someone who actually wasn't afraid of him. His jaw hung, his eyes were bulgy, and his only words were silence as he watched the foot break the ice quickly and his body was set off guard. "Some Captain you are!" Reign barked as he leg swung back and made his body turn slightly. Now his back was faced towards the off guard Juggles, but this didn't stop Reign from bringing his foot up to kick Captain Juggles. Both his hands pushed off the ground and give force behind his upward kick.

A breath full of air and saliva left Captain Juggles' mouth as the boot connected with his lower torso. His back was arched as Reign's foot still dug in between his stomach and his lungs continued to move up. Reign laughed, knowing of his overconfidence, "Is this all a Captain's got? A few tricks and a magic show!" His body turned though his leg was still in Captain Juggles' stomach, but his other leg spun with Reign's body. Quickly it swept across Juggles' head like foot against a football and spun his body off of Reign's foot. Reign landed on both of his feet, smiling with his eyes closed.

"Aren't you the ignorant little Second in Command?" said Captain Juggles as he approached Reign from behind. His dark oak cane landed on Reign's left shoulder to show off his close distance. "The real truth Reign, is that you're just a blind tool." Reign spun his body around to swing his fist only to see Captain Juggles gone. The cane again tapped his shoulder and Reign responded the same way for about three more times. "What you see isn't always the Truth, Reign." Suddenly Captain Juggles approached Reign from the front, but now there were two.

"I thought I...I kicked you over there." Reign said, to shocked to form complete sentences.

"Well you thought wrong Reign," The second Captain Juggles said with a mocking tone.

"Very wrong Reign." Said the first Captain Juggles as he approached the clone. "For you see," The Second Captain Juggles suddenly vanished and his form was replaced by a soldier's. "This is my Second in Command. His name is Mirage." Reign looked at them both with a slight fusion of disgust at himself and hatred towards the X-S.O.A.S.

His hand went near his mouth, quickly he bit his thumb until the taste of blood entered his taste. He let the blood drip into the ground. After four or five drops his sword suddenly returned to him from the sky and back into his hands. Reign readied his sword and prepared for a battle, one he felt he could accomplish himself.

Captain Juggles laughed along with his Second, Mirage. "You really think you can take the both of us on?" They awaited an answer, still in a comedic mood by Reign's display of foolishness. Nothing came out of Reign's mouth, not an utter of a word, but he still stood ready to fight.

He began his pace with a few dashing steps until he began to rush towards Captain Juggles and Mirage. Chronos was dragged along making a zig-zag line in the sand as he ran towards them furiously. His movement stopped as soon as Captain Juggles and Mirage disappeared. Reign looked back, then forth, and then left to right. "There!" He swung his sword in a up to down vertical slash until he was punched, clear in the face. Reign fell backward trying to regain his footing, but was unsuccessful in his attempt. He began barrel rolling until he stopped and rolled into a puddle of mud.

They continued to laugh, Captain Juggles and Mirage as they watched Reign in the mud. "Pathetic..." Captain Juggles echoed into Reign's thoughts. He lowered his head almost nearing a face plant into the mud.

"I guess, I guess I have to do it." Reign suddenly pulled out something from within the storage pocket that rested on the breast of his body armor. It was a needle of some kind, that had a fine blue liquid within the exterior. The storage part of the needle sat in the palm of his hand completely taking it up. Reign contemplated injecting it, knowing full well what will happen to him if he takes this. He closes his eyes and readies the needle in his right hand.

Suddenly he was punched in the face again and sent sliding back. Reign tried to see who it was, but there was some mud in his eyes. The glow of the needle showed it was spinning in the air as it began falling towards the ground. "Nooo!" Yelled Reign as he tried to catch it. The pressure was on until it landed into Reign's hands safely. After a sigh of relief Reign wiped his eyes, "Phew that was close..."

"I'll take that now," Said Captain Shade as he took the needle out of his hands. "A good soldiers knows never to use the A-10 Chemical until he knows death is certain and to protect his friends and comrades." Reign looked up at Captain Shade, a bit ashamed at himself for even considering such a thing.

"Captain, I'm sorry..." Reign forced off of his chest. Then Captain Shade looked at him with that same look as always when he gave a lecture.

"Look at you, in the mud." He yelled furiously. "Just like when I first met you...It's a shame really because I thought you were different...I thought you were better." Captain Shade quickly grabbed Reign by his armor again and stood him up. "If you don't fight by my side Reign then I'll have no choice, but to take you down along with Clown face and his lackey."

Captain Shade's hand stood awaiting a handshake, as a sign of equality. Reign smiled as though he had always wanted this, but never really revealed such a thing. Their hands met and shook a brotherly hand shake. Moves that should never be done were done in that hand shake. Pounds, hive fives, low fives, and the occasional spins were done and Captain Juggles and Mirage just watched.

"Now then..." Captain Shade said as he looked over towards them.

"Let's do this..." Reign smiled and readied his sword.

"Even though you're no longer S.O.A.S you're still soldiers so we go by honor." Captain Shade readied four daggers from underneath his sleeves.

"Fight!" Together Captain Shade and Reign both said as they rushed towards Captain Juggles and Mirage.
