Death’s Sentence

Introduction

Rain Industries: A company that does pretty much everything. Many of those things are experimented on until perfection or abandonment. Many of those experiments were held in one facility, known simply as the Farm. It was top-secret, though those that know or knew of it have stated that they believe the name comes from the fact that so much is produced there—a farm. When things went wrong, the facility was purged of all threats by the automatic computer system. However, sometimes even that is not enough. Rain Industries got too greedy for their own good. They experimented with immortality, bringing back the dead, and regeneration all from one test. If successful, it would have brought happiness to the world, at the right cost.

But it didn’t. The test subjects were too monstrous; the scientists said they just needed more time. The managers were considering cutting the project, so the scientists got desperate. Leave their work? They would never. So they came up with a plan to escape with their work. The only problem was: the work didn’t want to agree with them. One subject was let loose and it instantly went on a massacre. Every time it killed, it became more powerful. The mutations in its DNA meant that every feast brought it closer to human intelligence—closer to becoming a nightmare. Most of those that it bit got reanimated once it gained enough intelligence to know how to do it. The automatic computer system tried its best, but could not stop the spread. In a last, desperate attempt, the system set a self-destruct. But for some reason, it failed to activate.

The beast created its own little hive, creating zombies from whatever living animals around. It got better and stronger, taking on almost human features. Though not human, it had gained enough intelligence to be aware of its enemies and capable of planning a strategy—a grand escape from the prison of the Farm. A special ops team was sent in to deal with the threat, hopefully managing to set off the self-destruct. Most of them were killed and reanimated, a few escaping with their mission failed. However—on their way out—they let the zombies through. Their experience from below would help them deal with the zombie army that the monster had created, but they could only hold on for so long. Rain closed the city around the facility down, locking it down with giant walls to prevent any undead from passing through. Hundreds of Thousands of innocents were trapped, along with many members of the military.

They survived for a long time, but they were slowly being overrun. In time, only one survivor of the special ops team survived, but she was isolated from any other survivors. Rain decided that in a few hours, they would nuke the city and prevent the infection from spreading. The special ops member knew of this by her radio, so she decided to get out with her special access. But to do so, she would have to cross through the whole city. She had almost made it when she encountered the monster controlling them.

However, neither was going to kill each other just yet. The monster informed the special ops member that it had let her live because it had something planned…and would need her help. It would be completely voluntary and would help them both survive. The idea—let herself get bitten. With special care, the monster was able to make what would appear to be a perfect human being with the enhancements of the beasts. Better, stronger, faster, and smarter; she was now a weapon. Part of the arrangement was also for her to keep her free will; she was in perfect control. So she strolled up to the wall and revealed her identity. She proved that she was uninfected, so they let her out—a big mistake. She killed all the guards controlling the wall and let the monster out. The zombies were left to die, as they were expendable material.

From there, the two escaped and set up a small base of operation. The beast made a public announcement that it was out to destroy the world with its minions. The world panicked and turned to Rain, who promised the threat would be eliminated. The monster then set the ex-special ops member off to be its spokeswoman—the person to advertise its claims. She was granted the power to make more of her kind. Half-undead that would be disguised around the world as normal human beings. The plan was in place for chaos…but it had one weakness. The member decided to recruit one young man. He recently accepted the offer and became half-undead. But he had no intention of serving the cause. He stabbed her—though leaving her alive—and ran off, planning to wander the world until he could take down the beast. He works for no one; he hates both sides. And yet, he is the one who is capable of taking down all the threats in the world…
