Tale of a Caster
Tragedy of the Early Casters

Everyone knows about the Caster Order nowadays, or at least, most people do. 'Light Necromancers', who use our magic to bring back only willing individuals from the dead, and most of the times, we ask before they die. We were hidden for many years, and there is a good reason for that...we were not always as experienced with our arts as we are today, and accidents happened...a lot. There are so many tragic tales revolving around our order, but there are three particular ones I wish to talk about...One, of our Leaders, Shale and Dask, another of some of our most famous members, Ran and Thran, and then there's a third...that of my tale, the most tragic of all.

Believe it or not, they all intertwine, so I shall tell part of one, then switch to another to keep a constant timeline. The further I go along, the more secrets I shall reveal, and the more crossings shall be found. Now, shall we begin? Let us start with the tale of Shale and Dask, the founders of what we now know as the Caster Order...

Shale and Dask had been traveling together. Since they had been together for so long, they also know each other better than any other individual, but today, they marched for a different force. "So, are you exited?"

"We're going up against a force about five million times larger than us, so yea, I'm exited. Two against a full warforce. It'll be entertaining, Dask."

"So you say, Shale! Now, let's get to Battleon before the whole army is wiped out! We don't want to miss the fun!" The two laughed a little and then proceed to quicken their pace to join the armies defending the most well-known town in Lore. Of course, they were no ordinary fighters, and the two are well known as some of the best in their class. Shale used his magic well, while Dask was legendary amongst warriors for his skills, so the two have no shortage of power. Like any old fight, they batter back wave after wave of various monsters, the vast majority being undead. Hack, slash, punch skull in, kill, repeat. Block, Parry, Dodge, Blast with a magical spell, kill, repeat. This happened hundreds of times, and the two laughed with the thrill of battle they had experienced.

That is, until Dask was struck down by a poisonous arrow to his left hand. The black magic spread and was nearing the point of killing him, but there was nothing Shale could even do. Every spell he knew had failed, when suddenly, he remembered training from many years ago...he had not always been the nice wizard he was at the time; he once practiced the dark art of necromancy. He used the power only when necessary, as he was a 'good' necromancer, so he quit the order soon after. Yet he still knew the techniques to revive his friend, but that would be as a mindless skeleton. He asked Dask, "I may have a way to save you, but if I fail, your soul will never be at rest."

"Well, I can't fight when I'm truly dead; give it a shot!" Shale hesitated greatly at this, but eventually submitted and tried the spell. To both friends' surprise, Dask woke up as good as new--in nice flesh--with the exception of his left hand...the poison had caused it to be skeletal, and his whole body was paler than normal with darker hair, but he was alive and well. A perfect undead, in complete human form. "Shale, you have no idea what just happened, do you?"

"Well, we're going to find out...once either of us can stand up!"

What he was referring to was the fact that he had drained all his energy casting the great spell and his friend had just missed death forever. This was just the beginning, as the two would have to find a way to live with their choice for the rest of their lives.
