Author's note: When working on a larger body of work, my poetry tends to be sporadic and spontaneous, leading to a greater volume of humorous, "fluff" pieces. That's part of why this poem is another such example; it's a parody of "Yesterday" by The Beatles.

Trebuchet

Trebuchet…
Put my troubles on a trebuchet,
And so I flung them all quite far away.
Oh, I believe in trebuchets.

Suddenly,
They're all flying fast away from me;
They're but shadows o'er the mighty sea.
Oh, trebuchets are so handy…

'Bye, 'bye,
There they go,
And I know
That they'll not stay.

Cal-cu-lated wrong,
Now they're gone;
They cannot stay.

Trebuchet…
Estimating angles every day,
Since I've found a place to throw away
Everything…
Oh, trebuchet…

Leave Me Be

Hello there, emptiness.
I come again for one last kiss
From your lips, midnight-black.
As for my life, I want it back.

Leave me be,
Let me go,
Let me love,
Let me know.
Leave me be,
Let me glow,
Let me shine,
Let me grow.

You turned all into dust;
What once had gleamed now lays in rust.
Now give me eyes, for I've been blind-
Give me peace, God; just give me time.

Leave me be,
Give me eyes,
Let me see,
Let me live.
Leave me be,
Let me die,
Let me hurt,
Let me cry.

I once held to your hand,
But only now I understand.
Oh, emptiness must let me go,
Yet where I'm headed, I don't know.

Leave me be.
Let me learn.
Let me strive.
Let me yearn.

I forsake hollow years
That yet ring false within my ears.
I still possess what you can't take:
A wounded spirit you can't break.

Leave me be.
God... I am blind.

Untitled

Your pages, blank and virgin,
Told a story yet to be written.
With vanity and ignorance,
I destroyed its innocence;
To this day, I curse my pen.

Corruption and destruction,
Decimation, re-instruction-
Tales woven from my twisted loom,
Wefts construed in ill-lit rooms;
Maculated conception.

Yet covered in my foul lore,
Joyless are the garments you wore:
Your leaves were ripped asunder,
As the victims of my blunder.
Untitled forevermore.

Swan Song

You turn me, you spurn me,
And yet I still return
For another harsh caress,
Another day to yearn
For reprieve from this madness,
A pause from my induced insanity.

The bullet leaves chamber,
To pierce me like a knife-
Is glory found in dying,
Or taking of a life?
Tell me now, for I'm fading,
And your words shall be lost in the clamor.

You love me, you leave me,
You take away my pride.
Now take your leave of my heart;
There's no more room inside.
I loyally played my part,
You could return some scrap of dignity.

I fall on the soft ground,
I smile my last good-bye,
For it's over, it's ended!
The darkness clouds my eye.
I fought hard, I defended,
At last, it's time for someone else's round.

You harpy! You gorgon!
You silver-tongued temptress!
Is this then our finale,
Conclusion to this mess?
Your seduction destroys me,
Without even the grace of a swan song?

I'm through fighting your battles for you.
I'm finished fighting your war for you.
I did everything you told me to.
I'm finished fighting.
I'm through-
I'm

Travels

The winds buffeted my body,
Twirling me, a plaything,
Over mountain, lake, and valley.

How peaceful was my first landing-
I paused first on a grave,
To watch over those there sleeping.

Yet, followed I a rode long paved,
Not of my own direction,
But a path my destiny gave.

The next stop, by my volition,
Showed me a sentinel
Of a thinning generation.

Where I belonged, I could not tell,
Though I knew it not here;
I left, to seek some other dell.

The smell of fire, smell of fear
Surrounded one woman,
Who stood her ground without a tear.

I left her there to make her stand,
And fled for my safety-
To a distant schoolyard, I ran.

I there observed much gaiety,
Breathed a sigh of relief.
Here lay hope for humanity.

I settled last on one sans teeth:
A babe who slumbered well,
Taking no notice of a leaf.
