Eukara Vox -> Faerie Tales - Caellach and the Dragonfly Faerie (10/28/2008 17:32:32)

I decided that I needed to create a separate thread for my faerie tales and keep them separate from my short stories.

So, here they are:
The Fisherman's Daughter
Caellach and the Dragonfly Faerie

I went ahead and read them after I finished up the Fairy Saga, nice work Eukara *huggles*

The Fisherman’s Daughter

quote:

But it was the only life she ever knew and it didn’t bother her.

Wouldn’t it be better as “the only life she had ever known”?

quote:

She had long, dark red hair that cascaded down her thin shoulders.

quote:

The villagers said that her smile could make even the God of War melt.

Everything else is past tense so this should be too.

quote:

What was a dry walker doing so far from the shore without a float?

quote:

Arawn sank beneath the waves and turned toward home.

quote:

There was nowhere for her to go.

quote:

Slowly a creature rose out of the water between the sea king and the couple.

quote:

She cast her mournful gaze toward her father.

quote:

She had failed and King Shea knew she would.

quote:

During one of her trips to the surface, she noticed that the sun was already directly overhead and half of her day was done.

quote:

Volita sprung from the funnel and hovered completely out of water between Klyuna and her father and King Shea.

I really like your fairy tale. It has all of the classical elements of the best fairy tales yet it is unique in its own way. If I were to put it in a category… I would have to say that it belonged to the Grimm version of true fairy tale. Excellent job, Eukara.

Regarding Caellach: I love this story too and found no mistakes. Keep writing!

I would hope it would fit in that catagory, seeing as I teach a writing course on writing true-to-definition fairytales!

And, just as you finish reading the section posted of Caellach, I go and change it. The story has evolved so much that I cannot tell it in traditional fairytale style. It would never work. So now, I have posted the new beginning to the tale. I have kept some elements of the original beginning here and other parts will be seen later. As this semester's classes draw to an end, you will hopefully see more writing form me...until I must research my next two classes.

Second part of Caellach and the Dragonfly Faerie is up.

Each section is divided by a ~~~~~~~~~****~~~~~~~~~~, so look for it.

quote:

Whispers across the farming village they lived in spoke of a certain fey aura about Caellach, something inexplicable yet fascinating all the same.

quote:

Falling into bed, fully clothed, he closed his eyes and fell into deep sleep that his tired body needed desperately.

quote:

Our king is old and there is no heir to take his place.

quote:

The breath of wind swept through the room and settled on the blanket next to Caellach’s exhausted form.

quote:

Brian’s smile began to fade as he watched consternation spread across Caellach’s face.

quote:

“Wait, wait, wait.” Caellach waved his hands and jumped to his feet, tossing Brian off his leg.

quote:

Your mother frustrated the faerie world, my realm, my subjects, all for you.

quote:

King Brian held out his hand while struggling to balance the mug in the other.

That's what I have found so far. I love both of your stories, Eukara!
