Hay -> Discordance in Working Titles (10/30/2009 19:29:17)

Hi =) Welcome to my collection of poems. Comments thread can be found here.

A NIGHT WITH THE DEAD

I heard there was some girl,
Chained into the regime of mortality.
Once someone, now forgotten majesty,
Restricted to just flesh and blood.

Perhaps the rumors were false,
Or some unworldly accusation,
To match the romantic coupling,
Of her and her betrothed dead.

A consort, one night he would be,
Charming and more human to her,
Than any of us mere mortals--
With them, she wore nights away to dance.

Splinters gnawed beneath her nails,
Cheap red wine flushed her cheeks.
The only song she ever heard
Was the wet throbbing of her heart.

It was an event in the making,
When they found her prematurely cold.
In one final struggle to answer his call,
Her golden thread beyond repair.

It was said she marked her liberation,
With one exulting, chilling scream.
That night saw her silhouette,
Dancing, with her skeletons in tow.
