zeke50100 -> Introduction Section/Thread close to the Top (11/5/2009 2:44:32)

This was posted in "Why Things Look Different", and Bballman23 gave a very nice response. However, I still think it should be implemented :P

I think Intro would be better seen if it were actually up closer to the top; I remember not even scrolling down past half-way to see the OOC.

I just personally think that it would be a better welcome to new members if they open the page and BAM! oh, there's a group of people waiting to welcome me! It would just seem more noticable than some topic in the OOC (which actually takes time to find), IMO.

In answer to your concern, zeke (which is a legitimate one), that is probably already be taken care of, or at least can be pretty easily. It's been a while since I made my account, but I believe that all new members are sent a PM with a link to all the rules, etc. The staff can (and might now) simply include a note about checking out the OOC and the Intro Thread in there. Reading over those last three sentences, I realize they're terribly worded and confusing, but it's late. Hopefully they make sense. XD

Even if this CAN be remedied with a simple link in a welcome PM, I still think it would be beneficial to add the actual thread/section up at the top. It's a layout followed by many forums, and it's pretty effective. Not only would it benefit the newbies, but "veterans" could also find the intro thread/section to welcome them in (granted, older members would know where the OOC is, but you can never be sure)

Sir Gnome -> RE: Introduction Section/Thread close to the Top (11/5/2009 7:48:56)

While this sounds good in principle, I see an immediate problem; as the welcome thread gets recycled every 30 pages, the link changes. The number of people who have the ability to change the welcome PM is VERY small (maybe just 1), and the people with that level of power are typically incredibly busy. Basically, there would come a point where the thread in the OOC is recycled without the link in the welcome PM changing, and having a dead link there would be more unhelpful than having no link at all.

~JW~ -> RE: Introduction Section/Thread close to the Top (11/5/2009 10:29:02)

Then you should extend the 3o page rule for this thread.

If the problem is linking the thread, an easier solution would be linking the OOC instead. On other notes, I agree with Bballman23 over adding specific rule links (like AQ/DF/MQ/AQW main rules) to the Welcome PM, seeing those are stickies, they won't have the same problem as an Welcoming thread.
