TJByrum -> Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/8/2009 15:03:07)

Locking Our own threads sounds good to me. Here is my reasoning: We could lock it anytime we wanted to. It would take some tension off of those hard working AK's and Mods who ALWAYS have to lock threads. We would also not have to wait for someone to lock it. We could lock a topic and start a new one anytime we wanted.

I know SOME places forum-wise allow us to DELETE our own topics. However, the AQW and RP Forums do not. Why? If we COULD it would be less trouble to the mods right? Plus sometimes we notice we do something wrong, but we have to sit there and get humiliated until some mod deletes it. I think we should be able to delete our OWN topics via AQW and RP.

Locking and Deleting is a major job of an AK/Mod. If that's to be changed, then what's the purpose of having an AK/Mod?

I don't know why you can't delete threads in the AQW forum, but locking is a no.
It is way too easy to abuse the lock system. People could make a game out of locking/unlocking their own threads, even locking official threads. Hence, no.

Vivi -> RE: Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/8/2009 15:23:27)

The RP forum likely doesn't allow you to delete your own threads because other people may have important information in those threads like character bios that they might want to hold onto. Not sure about the AQW forum, that might be an oversight.

Locking your own threads is an idea that has been brought up and turned down before. There aren't any situations where it would be necessary for you to lock your own thread and it can encourage minimodding in some situations ("Oh no, the thread I created is starting to get spammy. I'll lock it and tell people to stop spamming!"). We appreciate that you're thinking about our workload but locking threads just needs to remain a tool for forum staff.

Prince Arthur -> RE: Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/8/2009 17:33:33)

but if you in a group like Dragonpedia masters you can delete your post or thread on DragonFable forums, but you can't just join any group for no reason or lock/delete thread or post for no reason.

Circe -> RE: Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/8/2009 17:49:19)

Each forum has its own settings regarding whether or not you can delete your own post or thread. The ability to lock (and delete the thread of another) is a moderation tool that will not be available outside of membership in moderation groups like the AKs.

If you'd like a post deleted or a thread closed, PM an Archknight of that particular forum.

Prince Arthur -> RE: Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/8/2009 17:52:37)

or you can just ask to lock thread but it must be your own thread!!
other whys you might get a Warning!!

As said above, locking is going to be for AKs / Mods / Admins only. Its not like you'll be locking your own thread every day, and as phoenixfire has mentioned, it encourages mini-modding.

However, after some time of thought, wouldn't locking your own thread in the Q&A Section be useful? As stated in threads before by moderators and AKs, its nearly impossible to have someone moderating a board the whole time. When one feels that their question is answered, they could lock it. Its not mini-modding (unlike the GD forums), and it would prevent posts after the question has been answered. Or if locking is needed to be remain AK only, perhaps a delete button can be implemented into the Q&A sections? One will be able to delete their own threads after answered, or the if the posters are unintentionally repeating an answer, their post could be deleted.

Just my two cents.

In the Q/A forum, can't you delete the first post of the thread, which deletes the entire thread?

moneybags -> RE: Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/8/2009 18:18:47)

No, not in the AQW Q&A. Ack, hafta be more specific >.<

Omni -> RE: Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/8/2009 22:50:11)

If you deem your own thread of being lock worthy than I would think deleting it would be just as well, or if you think certain posts require the attention of AK's simply request an AK or Mod of the board to inspect.

Clawful Flames -> RE: Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/9/2009 0:13:50)

I agree, but under certain conditions.

1. You cannot lock someone elses thread. Only your own.

2. If an AK/Mod locks the thread, you cannot unlock it.

The Braken Bard -> RE: Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/9/2009 3:24:23)

No. Locking should remain something only an AK/Mod can do; there is a reason as to why AK's and Mods are the only ones that have that power. However, deleting posts in AQW is fine with me. In RP, I think it's fine that people can't delete their posts there.

Only the thread started could lock the topic..

THIS_IS_SPARTA

Sometimes non-AKs/mods create official threads, so they would be able to lock.

The True Assassin -> RE: Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/9/2009 14:31:03)

I am pretty sure that there used to be a system where you could delete your own posts.

But I think that the deleting posts idea, would be beneficial as it would mean members could handle some of their own problems like double posts.

But there are also problems, like lets take the AQW Q&A, if the OP deleted their post then the thread would be deleted. This could mean that rule breakers wouldn't get reviewed as an AK may not be able to see if they had posted something inappropriate as now their post would be deleted too.

But I don't know how this would effect the forums long term, so I am sitting on the fence here.

Prince Arthur -> RE: Lock/Delete our OWN Threads (11/9/2009 17:41:10)

yes but the AK/mod/admin will delete it for you. but in a group like me
i can delete my own post or thread. so now the system has been changed
you must be in a group to delete you own post or thread.
