BlueKatz -> AQW Guide Board (11/10/2009 6:50:44)

I hear a lot about Guide, and I think that's useful, why can't people make it, I think I will "ask" and well..."answer" some point.
quote:

1/ There are not much thing to do to make a Guide Board

I think it's the weirdest reason I ever hear. I think all people just need to understand that Guide isn't quantity thing, it's about quality. I don't care if Guide Board have only 4 Topic.
quote:

2/ More Board=More work=More Ak/Mod

Not really, I believe we have enough people (not just Ak/Mod) to work. And even AK, some limited time, they don't really have anything to do, that's the time to check those guide, I don't think AK when on have to work on every place at once. And with a good Rule (like Pending Guides, or limit people like in The Gallery...)
As I see, make a guide Board help AQW Board less spam and re-post question... Look at AQW Q&A, see...
quote:

3/ Maybe future...

This is future when some one said it. The Test has began... maybe it's not enough to make a guide (ha...) but what about soon... and sooner... at this time people would make a guide. So why not now... what can be lost if we make it early? If people keep say soon, it will be S.O.O.N (Soon or otherwise never)

WEll, maybe some people or AK will come and complain about some thing, throw here, I would like to know the true reason.

And here some thing I want to see:
1/ AQW Guide Board can be seen from Main AQW Board (so people can see it easy, don't put it in AQW Q&A or make a Help and Support because people can't find them) and have a link "Guide" or "How to play" under the game page.
2/ Only some people can post, or there must be a rule to prevent spam (I have no idea about this)
3/ People can post under a guide like in AQ Guide because we have a game need a lot of information and correct information. Owner can delete post or request to delete post.
4/ Tactic guide (class, monster...) Equip Guide (Encyclopedia quick find...) Farming, Secret, Story, Stat (soon), Key... (people think there aren't much, but that's enough for a game)
5/ Don't mix it to AQW Q&A because newbie can't find it, that's why I want AQW Guide hae it's own Board.
...

moneybags -> RE: AQW Guide Board (11/10/2009 10:29:48)

I beleive there simply isn't enough guides to make a board of its own. Really, there isn't much a point in opening a whole new board just so 5 guides or so can be put in there. And its not like the AQW forums are suffering because they have no guide boards. People are doing fine. Sure, in the future, when stats are released, there may be a few more guide topics that can be put in. But right now, we only have farming guides, guide for looks and a Storline Walkthrough.

As you said, more boards comes with more AKs. You may disagree when you suggested that only a limited amount of people can post there, but still, any board needs AKs, which this forums is kinda low on. The current ones are probably already busy with the boards they AK now.

Thats going to open up only another 2 topics, or somewhere there (one for stat setups and one for Battle Strategies). If someone feels that the guide they made is a guide good enough, they can PM an AQW AK and ask them to sticky it, when Circe approves.

I also Suggested This.

The overal answer was as follows;

quote:

ORIGINAL: Personater

We currently do not feel the need to open an "AQW Guides" forum, partly since it would not house enough unique topics to need an entire section devoted to it, and partly due to the additional maintenance required for it - more boards mean more spam and the need for more moderation.

As Kain pointed out, the number of topics that require guides is not that numerous yet - we do not need another board in the AQW section currently devoted entirely to a few guides that can be found in the General Discussion section.

Atriax -> RE: AQW Guide Board (11/10/2009 12:21:35)

It would be better to be able to post guides in the Q&A, seeing as there aren't actually that many things to write guides about.
They'd end up all being copied.

Circe -> RE: AQW Guide Board (11/10/2009 18:39:37)

Already way ahead of you! :P Currently talking to the AKs to decide what's appropriate at this stage.

moneybags -> RE: AQW Guide Board (11/10/2009 18:43:36)

@Circe: Hm? So there will might be new boards opening up on the AQW Forum? Hopefully so ^^

Digital X -> RE: AQW Guide Board (11/10/2009 19:01:37)

I think that posting AQW guides In the AQW Q and A is a reasonably good idea myself. I mean it will save a lot of forum room, by not creating an entirely different topic, becuase it will be contained within one already. Unlike the AQ guides where they have their own thread.

Anyone else agree with me?

BlueKatz -> RE: AQW Guide Board (11/10/2009 21:21:18)

@moneybags 2nd post: I think u haven't work much with guide, I worked one and I find that people build guide and AK/Mod fix it, look after it, then if it's a good guide, AK take it. I don't think AK have to work every thing at once.
@ Circe: Thank Circe, it's good to know that.

And as I said, Guide not only a place to confirm something, it's also a place for newbie. I disagree that Guide should be in AQW Q&A because newbie can't find it easily. Don't post a Guide board deep inside like DF, it took me a while to find it when I was a Newbie

Zero F -> RE: AQW Guide Board (11/11/2009 4:46:58)

Also, since the stats are waiting to come out (PTR anyone?), what a better way to take a step ahead and make the guide board?

And yes, there have been guides cluttering the Equipment/Farming Discussion threads. Since AKs are originally to keep the forums clean, friendly and neat, (if I remember correctly, anyway) their jobs won't be met if there isn't a specific place to move the post anyway.

PD -> RE: AQW Guide Board (11/11/2009 13:53:36)

Currently, the viable topics for AQW guides are:

  • Farming Guides (I'm working on a really comprehensive one right now)
  • Features Guides (A guide that Explains the basic what-nots of the Gameplay)
  • Classes/Skills Guides (A Guide that is entirely devoted to a thorough explanation of the various classes as well as their skills)
  • Quest/Storyline Guides (Already Made)
  • Account Recovery Guides (Already Made)

    Well, I'm not sure, but are 5 topics numerous enough to have a AQW's Guide Board? I'm quite on the neutral side to this.

  • BlueKatz -> RE: AQW Guide Board (11/11/2009 22:42:15)

    Ohhh people, U really think other game Guides Board have 10-20 guide wehn the board first created? I think in the future we will have more guide.
    I would like to see some other guides like:

    • Tactic guide (class, monster...)
    • Equip Guide (Encyclopedia quick find...)
    • Secret guide (I don't think put it in GD is effectty)
    • BattleBar

    I am inclined to disagree here. While there may be only 5 topics numerous enough to create guides on, some of those topics are too generalized to be thrown into one comprehensive guide. Take "Quest/Storyline Guides" for instance. While "Storyline" can be placed conveniently into one guide, the former "Quests" option cannot. If you would kindly refer to another guide forum such as MQ, it technically only has 3 topics for guides: Equipment and Builds, Quests, and Misc. topics. According to the MQ Guides Index, it is quite possible to have 2-3 guides on even one more specified topic. In MQ's case, we have 2 guides on mechs (3 if you count the spreadsheet). Under the "Quests" section, MQ has a total of 7 guides. While AQW might not have as many quests as MQ to write guides on, there are certainly a plethora of quest topics that can be turned into comprehensive guides.

    I, personally, support the notion of an AQW Guides forum. One is bound to come up eventually, so we might as well start sooner rather than later. With those 5 guide topics venturer mentioned, I can easily envision 10 guides in the forum if people were interested in making them (MQ currently has 10 guides, and started with even less, so that is a non-factor).

    While the current AQW guides may be moved to AQW Q&A and stickied the same way it worked with MQ, I simply fail to comprehend the purpose of such actions. It is quite manifest that an AQW Guides forum will have to be created in the future, so why bother going through the process of having guides in Q&A and later moved to a AQW Guides forum when that step may be skipped altogether? I would understand if there were only 2-3 guide topics, but even 5 seems too much to sticky in Q&A. It would clutter up the forum with non-Q&A material (not specifically Q&A material in the long-term), and from my experience, most Q&A thread starters disregard stickies in the first place (stickied FAQ answers most Q&A questions), so the level of activity and "bad threads" would not be stemmed. The detriments of having guides in Q&A first just seem to outweigh the benefits. In my opinion, it would be wiser, more productive, and require less hassle if an AQW Guide forum was created and left to grow. Guides on quests will already be worth about 5 guides alone at this stage of AQW's progression. That figure will only escalate from here.

    Moderation on this new forum will not be that large a problem. Similar to MQ, we can have AQW Q&A AKs moderate the new AQW Guides forum. Considering there are more AQW Q&A AKs than MQ Q&A AKs when the MQ Guides forum popped up, the chance of AQW Guides be given attention is highly probable. Having the actual forum will already give AQW Guides attention from AKs. Whether the forum is created, or the guides are moved to AQW Q&A, the AQW Q&A AKs might have to look after them anyways. I alone kept MQ Guides clean for months by popping in once a week, with some help from Gnome, so moderating this forum should not be an issue. Traffic in a guides forum is not great by any extent...even for AQW.
