I feel I must agree with Born of Darkness, that the shift from open thread clan forms to locked thread clans was a bit abrupt, though I do remember the mods trying to make less and less of the clans business conducted on these forums. I also remember that their 'limitations' did not work, as you cannot stop someone from saying something, and it was likely too big of a job to police. Though it was done. I know, as I was put on probation for contesting a warning about one of these things. The rules of what you could and could not post was too much of a gray area, and thus a lot of clans go in trouble for breaking rules they didn't know they were breaking. The issue with the mods attempt to clean up the clan forums was that the rules they put in place were such that there could be no off-topic discussion, though off-topic discussion in clans is hard to differentiate. Because of this, we were then no longer able to have threads on the forums, we would simply have a layout page with a "story," list of members, and a link to off-site forums. Membership was to be determined by PM, which was the ultimate problem. Members 'joined' via PM and then never joined the off-site forums, so were non-members in all but name. Also, many left the forums because of this change, as it took away the personality from the clans. I was in several clans, high ranking positions in most and the co-leader of one. I tried to keep my clan, which was about two years old at that point, after the changes, but it wasn't able to survive. There was no link between the clan and the games, it was just a group of people with a common interest, and most of us lost our interest in the games alongside the loss of our clans. They added a social element that is not present in Adventure Quest, Dragon Fable, or even MechQuest. I don't know about AQ Worlds, as I've never played it. The point of a clan is to become part of a whole, and we lost the thing that bound us together. I've always had the habit of typing a lot, and I hope I haven't bored you or lost my point with this, but the way things stand now is no improvement over the way the things used to be. A change was needed, yes, but the change made was not one for the better. Perhaps it is better for the mods, but the forums aren't about the mods, they're about the people who use them to make friends and speak their minds. I think, there is a way to bring the open threads back to the clans section of the forums and still have them be neater than they were. Perhaps, putting more pressure on the clan leaders to make sure that off-topic or unnecessary posts are put on the clan thread, the leader only, not the clan. When a ship goes down, it is the fault of the captain, not the crew. My opinions on these matters have gotten me in trouble before, but I'll gladly take the fall. I'd rather be banned for life for saying what I think rather than deal with a situation that is not beneficial to anyone. The point of suggestions is to make things better, not criticize, and I've said what I have in favor of a suggestion, not as a criticism of the moderation of these forums. Sure, I'm not happy with the decision, but they made it for their reasons, and I respect that. I just think that a better solution can be found. - Kirrae
