The Rules of the AQWorlds Pending Guides Forum All Universal Forum Rules relating to posting behavior apply! These should be the first thing you read when you join the forums. They apply everywhere; this means that any behavior prohibited by the Universal Rules is prohibited in this forum. This means no flaming, no trolling, no spamming your signature or emoticons, and no mentioning hacking. Period. No Spam In addition to no spam, we ask that you only post guides that are usable. Below is a list of basic criteria to consider when creating and offering a guide: - Put time and effort into the making of the guide. Guides that are incomplete and/or repetitive and show little effort will be deleted. - Guides that fail to make an attempt at using proper English will be deleted without warning. This includes the use of acronyms without definitions. - Guides should be easy to read. Use formatting when necessary to separate items and make the guide clearer. - Use a descriptive title. "Guide to Everything" is pointless, as it will not be the purported guide to everything. Deletion Notices When a Guide is approved, all replies are deleted. We do not send PMs to each individual poster when this occurs. No Plagiarism Do not post anything that you did not create as if it is your own work. Credit must be given, regardless of where it came from - IRC, PM, replies etc. Any instance of plagiarism will result in consequences beyond the norm. Accountability for your Guide When you make the decision to assume ownership of a guide, you are assuming the entailing responsibilities. You have agreed to keep the guide in a respectable state by keeping it updated. If you are no longer able to fulfill these obligations, it is your responsibility to relinquish ownership. What is not tolerated is retaining ownership but transferring the workload to someone else. More specifically, it is not the job of the AQW Guides AKs to keep guides updated for their owners. If real life forces you to take a hiatus, that is understandable. But ultimately, responsibility for the guide is still vested in the owner. Image Restrictions Banners and other graphical decorations may be used. However, the maximum total file size(s) must be 250KB or less. It is to prevent long loading times for those with slow connections. Overuse of any graphics will prevent a guide from being approved. For the main banner (likely the one at the top, if there is one), the max width is 750 pixels, and the max height is 200 pixels. For dividers, the max for each is 750 pixels in width and 20 pixels in height with a file size no larger than 5KB. No Duplicate Guides Check all previous guides. If there is already a guide, don't make a new one. If you see improvements that need to be made to a current guide, politely post in the thread instead of making a new guide. If you do find a guide that is beyond repair, you must include a reason in your new guide. It cannot be a simple paraphrase and/or reorganization. Guides is not a contest. It isn't for outdoing each other. It's for helping others. One Pending Guide at a time Limit yourself to one Pending guide at a time. This helps insure that you aren't over-extending yourself and creating a sub-par guide. It also provides other forum members the chance to write guides, rather than having them all be from one person. Approval Deadlines There are no hard deadlines for when a guide has to be completed; however, if the AQW Guide AKs feel that there is insufficient progress on a guide over a reasonable period of time, a deadline for completion will be imposed. This deadline will range from two weeks to one month depending on the scope of the guide. If a guide fails to meet its deadline for approval, the thread will be locked and the guide topic placed within the Guides Vacancies thread. Posting Behavior All replies must be relevant to the topic of the guide. This includes questions (read below), suggestions and other comments on the guide. Check all previous replies in the thread to see if what you want to post has already been stated. It is optional to the guide owner to agree with and implement any suggestions you may have for their guide. Feedback is vital to the sustainability and quality of any guide, however, please use constructive criticism. Any rude posts will be deleted and appropriate consequences will happen, accordingly. Replying to your own Guide The main point of this is not bumping your thread. Posts that do not contribute anything relevant to the guide will be considered bumping. A couple "Thank you" and "You're welcome" posts are allowed, but they can be easily overused and used as an excuse to bump. Replying to questions is perfectly fine, assuming that no one else has already answered it. Discussing the guide and suggestions are allowed, but anything suspected for only serving the purpose of bumping the guide will be removed. If you're posting in response to a suggestion that you took, "added" will pretty much only serve the purpose of bumping the thread. Self-bumping is ONLY allowed when a considerable update to your guide has been made, and it needs to be reviewed again. If a post only served to bump the thread, that post and all following posts will be deleted. On Asking Questions Questions are allowed as long as they are relevant to the guide and do not revolve around one's own character. What this means is that the focus of the question has to be on improving the guide itself, not on improving one's character. For instance, you can ask in a farming guide if a particular spot is worth adding or how your suggested spot compares to those already in the guide. What you cannot ask is which farming spot is best for you because that is more about your own character and less about improving the guide. If the AQW Guides AKs deem a question to be inappropriate, it will be deleted and you will receive a PM explaining why.
