Wiseman -> Spell Check (12/1/2009 13:18:30)

Does this forum have a spell check, if not it should. I know it is possible to have a spell check built into a forum as I am a Administrator of my own forum elsewere and mine has spell check. I would download a spellcheck option but since I use a public computer I am not allowed to download anything.

*note: This is a question and suggestion at the same time.

The forums do not have a built-in spellcheck, but spellcheckers are something better added on the client side than on the server side. Creating a spellcheck is a big project, and adding one to the forums would put more strain on the forum servers. Client-side spellcheckers would also allow users to add words to the spellcheck dictionary which is a feature you wouldn't have with a forum spellchecker, it's a feature that would be helpful to have given that many words that might appear in the games will be marked as spelled wrong by an ordinary spellcheck. If you can add words to your dictionary then the spellcheck can later recognize those words and if you misspell one it can fix it for you.

Ok I see I guess that makes since till I get my own computer I guess I'll have to type my storys in microsoft word and then copy paste it here.

The FireFox browser has a pretty good built-in spell checker.
I use it for my forum posts.

If you are able to use FireFox on that public computer, give it a try!

Typically, spell-checking features on a forum would be an addition/extra to the forum software. GameFAQs for example offers this. However, I don't think ASP.NET has such an add-on or even add-ons at all. I am only familiar with phpbb, IPB, and vBulletin.
Your best bet is probably to just get a spell-checking thing for your browser. As has been said, Mozilla Firefox comes with one (it might need to be enabled; check your options) that is quite good. I am using it currently. Don't forget that you can be your own spell-checker. ;P

Only one problem I can only use Enternet Explorer at this location. Im trying to become an AP or AA and a RP in training but im a tarrible speller. It is probley my greatest weekness :(

At this time im typeing my storys and RPs on WORD then copy/paste, which is ok but its a bit of a hassle.

Icemaster Yeti -> RE: Spell Check (12/3/2009 3:14:40)

It's not really a hassle, and it's a MUCH better way to go with long posts like stories and Role Playing.

Type it up in a word program, use the spell check there and then paste it onto these forums.

As there are many spell checking possiblities outside the forums, and these forums are highly unlikely to add one ...

Locked.
