To show who said something, the forums use this:

However, in some forums, it does this:

I think the forum could save space this way.

I'm not seeing much of a difference between the two, other than a line separating the quoted author's name and the post. Are there any other differences that I'm missing?

I really think is a good Suggestion,
And I don't think it will cause as much trouble as the "Quote Original" Button Spam in Posts.

What exactly do you see as the benefit of such a change? Anything much more than the examples Zyrain gave would require extensive recoding, and the examples he did give are fairly easy to edit oneself.

Well, it would save two lines of blank.
Now this is is lockable as I've made my point.
You don't have to do it as it had to have a lot of RE-coding.
RE-coding is worse than normal coding. And extensive... O.o
I speak from experience.
