Cat's Meow - Love and all that stuff...
by Eukara Vox

They have started planning for Hero's Heart Day and SnuggleFest Deuteronomy!

Oh... Good-ee.

Why are you being so sour about this? Come on! It's a celebration of snuggles and love and affection! Surely even you can't complain about such things?

Watch me.

But... You are the king of snuggling. You make it a point to snuggle every person that walks into this house. I mean, seriously, you will even snuggle the cable guy.

I am merely thanking him for taking care of Eukara and the family. Is that something that I should stop doing?

*groans* Oh yes, flopping down at the feet of the people who come into our house to work on stuff that needs correcting, rolling onto your back and stretching as far as you can is "merely thanking" them. I am sure the total strangers see that all you are doing is thanking them.

Of course they do. You have to remember that humans think on one plane at a time. The man is providing a service, therefore, he will only think along the lines of that service. Therefore, by my perfect logic, he will see my actions as only payment in kind.

You didn't land on your feet as a kitten did you?

And just what are you implying?

I am saying that, not only are you dense, but you are also deaf. Humans are not as stupid as you think they are. Eukara and the people who come to work on stuff laugh... LAUGH, at your actions. I just watch for the entertainment.

I beg your pardon, catling, but they do not laugh at me.

Well... Then maybe next time you so gracefully fall at the feet of the repairman, you can actually listen to everyone instead of meowing as if you were a blasted fire truck siren. Maybe then you will see that they think your actions are funny.

How dare you!

Yes, yes, how dare me. Just admit it. You are a snuggle hog, a self-righteous attention hog and self-serving mound of fur that requires that everyone who steps into this house pet you until they can't breathe anymore. And, if you want me to continue, I can tell you about Nana's reaction to your insistence that she is your chair.

Nana happens to love me. Of course she provides me with a comfortable sitting arrangement when she comes over.

You really need to pay more attention to other people. Why do you think that I play it cautiously when it comes to snuggling and begging for affection.

I do not beg!

Yeah you do. It's embarrassing. See, I wait until someone asks me to spend some quality time with them. That is much more dignified. You do our ancestors a disservice by all the begging. Our kind were once worshipped in Egypt. I am sure that they never begged and embarrassed themselves.

You were talking about that AE event called SnuggleFest and Hero's Heart Day...

Yes, yes, change the subject when you are sore about something. Yes, I believe it is AE's way of celebrating Valentine's Day without calling it Valentine's Day. I like it better anyway. It makes Valentine's Day more... Chivalrous.

Oh, now look at that. Another big word from the catling. Have you been reading a dictionary lately?

Actually no. I have been paying attention to the conversations Eukara has while she is on the computer. That IRC program is quite interesting. I have learned a lot of stuff. Like... Did you know that there is someone that claims to be a Moogle, whatever that is, but she always refers to him as Pie? And another she calls BLT? Seems like there is a lot of food on IRC. I should look into that.

And what exactly does this have to do with anything?

What else do you think I do when I sit on the back of her chair, sleeping? I am not as lazy as you. I am watching her, seeing what she does and as such, taking an active interest in what my human cares about. And, as I was going to say before you butted in, there is a lot of snuggling and such on there. Which seems natural as AE has a SnuggleFest. SO, I am thinking that IRC is like a constant Valentine's Day.

I cannot think of anything more sugary-sweet and nauseating.

How can you say that such things are nawww ze...nawww-zee-ting...nawwww...

Nauseating. I think it is overkill, just like the holiday. If people really loved each other, they wouldn't need a holiday to proclaim it. They would do such things for each other every day.

But... Valentine's Day seems to make sure that everyone loves together, at the same time. And that is a whole lot of people loving each other at the same time. Doesn't that seem at least interesting?

Like I said, if everyone acted like they do on Valentine's Day every day, then everyone would be loving each other every day. That, Casper, is more attractive to me than setting one day aside to show the affection they should show all year long. Humans complain and fret all the time about war, orphans, hurt and such things. If they showed the same amount of love and support every day to each other as they do on Valentine's Day... Those problems wouldn't be there to plague them.

I... I guess you have a point.

Of course I have a point. So, Valentine's Day means nothing to me. All it is to me, Casper, is a day for people to spend money -money which many of them don't have to begin with- on trinkets and chocolate for those they love, when in reality, they could show that all year long with a sweet word, hugs, attention and time alone.

But, Deuteronomy, the day is supposed to be fun. Can't you at least be a little supportive? Some people finally work up the courage to talk to someone they like on Valentine's Day. It makes them more comfortable. Isn't the day worth something if that happens? It seems that Valentine's Day can actually help prop...prop-uh...propagate the affection to be built on for the rest of the year.

Why must you do that?

Do what?

Bring up a point like that...

Because I want to have faith that everything has its place and purpose?

Are you going to make me watch you play SnuggleFest and Hero's Heart Day?

Not if you don't want to.

Good. *sighs* Things have their place. And I guess, if for the one thing you pointed out, I must acknowledge Valentine's Day's legitimacy. As much as it pains me, I will admit that you have a good point and might be right.

Now, admit that you are a snuggle hog.

You are pushing it, Casper.

Fine, your inadmission is still an admission in my eyes. If anything, because you refuse to actually deny that you spend more time in a lap, tucked besides someone on the couch, laying with one of the minipeople during the night to sleep, climbing all over people to get comfortable and constantly trying to find a new way to annoy people with your desire to sit on them.

. . .

What do you think He will get Eukara this year on Valentine's Day?

Probably the same thing he got her last year.

Oh...

Why so glum? It's the same as when I was your age or younger. She doesn't seem to mind. But then again, He is one of those who does what I suggest in the first place.

Yeah, true.

Yeah, it's one of his best qualities. For which I am grateful for. I just don't know if I could handle the mushiness and such if He celebrated Valentine's Day like most of the country.

I don't know if she could either...

You deserve, three cheers, a cup of coffee and a big sign that says "Never give up writing" for both this, your article on talvan, and your commentary in the editor's notes. You've truly brought about the meaning of Happy heart days.

hehehe

I love my cats. Their personalities are very much like how I portray them in these writings.

I am glad that you find them entertaining and priceless.
