Postmaster General -> A New Gaming Community board: (3/12/2010 12:31:29)

AE Kitchen:

Here's my concept:

quote:

Do you like food? I know I do! Not only eating, but cooking too! If food is your forte, then express it here! I have some recipes I would like to share with you. Try it out, under supervision by players under 12, and post here with feedback! Feel free to share recipes here as well, try what you will. Note to all would-be chefs: Cook at your own risk, you alone are responsible for what you choose to consume.

quote:

Ramen noodles: Do you like ramen noodles? Who doesn't! There great for anyone on a tight budget and they aren't half bad! The down side to them is that the flavor can get kind of old. Solution? Add some of your own spices! Here is what I did! Note, it will be spicy if followed exactly.

Ingredients:
Ramen Noodles (x1 package)
Provided flavor packet (x1)
Tap Water (x2 cups)
Soy Sauce (x1 1/4 cup)
Sriracha Hot chili sauce (Squirt)
Hot Pepper Paste (x1 Dallop)***
Sesame Oil (Squirt)
Garlic Powder (Sprinkling)
Sugar (x1 tbsp)
Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (Sprinkling)
Egg (x1)**
-Chopped- Hot Dogs (x2)**
-Chopped- Green Onions (x2)**
*All amounts are to taste, if you have a preference, feel free to adjust accordingly.
**Egg, Hot Dogs, and Green Onions are interchangeable, although all together are good as well!
***A red paste, can be located in any local korean market. If you are having trouble finding it, ask for "Ko-Chee-Jung"

Cooking Directions:
Step 1: Bring water to boil.
Step 2: Add all ingredients except for eggs and hot dogs.
Step 3: Heat, water will begin to evaporate. Stir so that noodles and spices mesh.
Step 4: Crack egg in separate bowl and stir until yoke and white are blended.
Step 5: Stir in egg and hot dogs. Make sure Egg forms, it will look like a scrambled egg in the noodles.
Step 6: Let cool and serve.

In the "Gaming Community" we have OoC, L&L, and Gallery. What thoughts do you have on adding in a culinary subforum? There could be contests, and challenges like "How many ways can you cook Spam?" Thoughts?

Of course necessary things would include: Discretionary measures/warnings, recipe submission template, rules, and possible contest and video/picture subforums?
Cook on!

The Braken Bard -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/12/2010 19:14:28)

I think that this wouldn't be allowed. I remember something about Advice threads not being allowed, and this sounds like it would fall under that category.

Postmaster General -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/12/2010 22:17:00)

Not necessarily advice. This would be like Eukara's Book of Lore project. Users could collectively create pieces that would be entered in an AEF cookbook of sorts.

The Braken Bard -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/12/2010 22:28:34)

Ah, but the difference is that you read the book of Lore for stories and poetry. The cookbook would probably only be used for advice related stuff; there's no point in putting up a Cookbook if it's just there for show. If anyone reads it, they might get inspired, or take some "advice" away from it. See, the thing is that, whilst the actual thing you want is not advice itself, it stems from advice.
So it probably wouldn't be allowed, as it would technically be seen as advice.

Postmaster General -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/12/2010 23:06:27)

Also, this wouldn't be a board for only listing recipes. The board could spawn subforums for uploading of cooking demos (that's a stretch) or pictures of the dishes. Also, competitions, contests, discussion, and Q&A could all be there.

Kain -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/13/2010 22:43:51)

I'm not quite sure about the use of this board...Don't get me wrong, but I don't think food is a topic big enough to need a specific board on a gaming forum.

The problem is that boards are only created when they are really needed (like the AQW Guide board, which was created 1 year after the game was released in order to receive enough threads to worth it) and I honestly don't see many food discussions to deserve a board just for them.

The idea is interesting and it can be executed in other ways, like a thread about food on the OOC, where the OP could link recipes within it on the first post and make it a food discussion/recommendation, but in my opinion, a board wouldn't be practical.

Valosity -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/14/2010 12:26:59)

Yes, it seems a bit to little to be on a board, although it might fit quite nicley as a subforum...
I seem to like that idea. A cookbook! Now I can actually make food... if it was to happen that is.

Alpha Atom -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/14/2010 17:17:09)

I like this idea too... but yes, a subforum would be best suited if it were to be implemented.

Postmaster General -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/14/2010 17:44:13)

So would we all agree it would make a good subforum in say, Creative Art?

Alpha Atom -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/14/2010 17:54:29)

No, I would say in OOC. Creative Arts isn't really the board for it imo. :/

Postmaster General -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/14/2010 19:57:03)

But for example, the Hand Crafted/Drawn sub-forum is a similar forum. OoC is more for discussion. Not necessarily to share fruits of labor.

Circe -> RE: A New Gaming Community board: (3/15/2010 0:57:53)

I appreciate your suggestion and the enthusiasm with which it's made, but these forums are designed to support AE's stable of flash games. Any extra content is just that: an extra. While a cooking forum might be fun, it isn't the best use of our limited resources.
