Well... it seems that there is a rule in the forums about not using a signature more than once per page. I would like to make the arguement that a person's signature is what they use to define themself, and to personalize their messages.

As mentioned here, it seems that the reason for this is that it wastes bandwidth. However, as specifically demonstrated by an example of a pageload of this thread, http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff288/grethko/Picture8.png the browser cache will only call upon and load the image once, and place it in multiple places on a given screen.

Perhaps it works that way for your browser and ISP, but for some other browsers, and users with dial-up, each image is loaded one at a time. So while multiple sigs per page may not be an issue for you, they could be for other forum members.

Another reason (which was addressed in the guide you linked) is how multiple signatures affect how you read the thread. Applying the same image multiple times on the same page is troublesome when you're reading posts in a page, and while signatures are indeed a way to express in the forums, you can do it once per page and people will get the message.

Save, of course, when I may have to refer to mine several times in a page.
Not all signatures are pure aestetics with an image.

...Suffice it to say I have... controvertial opinions towards humanity, and make it plainly known.

......I suspect I'm a notable minority in terms of useful signatures.

I would personally question why it would be useful to express your opinion of humanity every time you post when in most forum boards, you're discussing AE games. In any case, the focus of these forums is what is said in a post; as Kain mentioned, graphical images can be quite distracting from the content of a post.

I would also argue members will define themselves to a far greater degree through posting behavior than by using a graphical image or six lines of text. In short, I don't quite see the importance of allowing a signature every post, especially given the issues with such a policy already mentioned above.
