Demolutior X -> Question (5/23/2010 8:22:22)

I wanted to know more about the Thread Hijacking.
Is there somewhere a set of rules that includes it?

It's in every board's specific rules. Here's a quote from MQ Q/A:

quote:

No Hijacking
While duplicate topics are not permitted, please do not post in someone else's thread with your own questions. If your issue is not addressed by any existing threads, please use the and post your own thread.

The "no hijacking threads" rule usually exists for the Questions and Answers forums, for example, the AQ Q&A forum rules has a "No Hijacking" rule (see point 7). This is because hijacking tends to take place in threads asking game-related questions -- "Hey, by the way, how good is <some other weapon not related to the original poster's question>?"

The Comprehensive Forum Rules does not have a rule explicitly stating that thread hijacking is not allowed; however, off-topic posts are usually deemed spam and deleted ("Spam is anything that is not directly related to the topic at hand, as well as any additions to a post that are deemed superfluous and unnecessary.") Furthermore, it should be common sense that hijacking a thread would be rather disrespectful towards the original thread starter (the degree depending on the circumstances, of course) and that it can cause the thread to veer off-topic very quickly. Basically, unless there is an official/tagged thread, it would be better to start your own thread, particularly when asking a question.

Thanks for pointing the way to the rule.

I did read the rule and made an conclusion.
I'm not a hijacker.

By merely posting a statement regarding the issue brought me an hijacking accusation.

@ Demolutior X
If you don't have to add something to the asked question but only stating your own problem and complaining, it maybe not hijacking but at least it is spam = the thread would have been locked either way!
