Highlord Sendai -> Golden Thread Board (7/13/2010 12:56:38)

Sometimes there's a thread I would like to look back on. Either because it was a great discussion or a great deal of work has been put into it.

I would love to see a No Post Board. (With the exception of AK's of course)
Stuff would be moved into the area and not re-posted.

As said previously there could be a whole load of things.

A really popular discussion in the OOC. A legendary game in the UCaG. A famous Roleplay in the Role Playing area maybe even a raging debate in the Debate Club.

It could move into the board like this

=OOC= Topic Name
=UCAG= Topic Name
=DC= Topic Name
=AEGD= Topic Name

Basically something like that.

I'm sure there used to be something like that before, or am i thinking of a different forum? (Though i only ever go on this one usually)

If this happens, which I'd love it to, I would suggest you put this up there...
=OOC= World Cup 2010

This sounds interesting enough, however I have one question that sticks out in my mind:

What would be the usefulness of this board? Members would no longer be able to participate with these discussions, and there would really be nothing to learn from them except perhaps an example of how to conduct oneself, which is usually spelled out in the respective boards.

Besides fulfilling a sense of nostalgia, I cannot see a use for these boards. How would this benefit the AE community?

Maybe a Sub-Forum for Disscussion.

Example...
=OOC= Thread Name
=OOC= Thread Name Disscussion Thread.

True, but what would there be to discuss?

In RP's, I suppose you could share your favorite characters, scenes, attacks, etc. But in debates and other discussions, I could only see it being a place for people to spam or flame. Messages of 'Good point there.', 'Look at how dumb they are.', 'Duh,' etc, would be frequent in boards.

I don't think a discussion thread would be needed to allow discussion of a thread.

As for some other threads, there are already anthologies of certain threads. Role Plays, for example, are saved for later review.

The forums have an automatic delete function built in, though the time may vary between different forums. The overarching purpose of this is to save space; quite simply, keeping any thread that seems interesting is not the best way to use resources. Some threads are saved, however. The AE General Discussion section has saved some threads with especially interesting speculation/discussion, which you can find by viewing all topics and scrolling to the end of the forum.

To keep any interesting thread, however, would take up space, which in most cases is unnecessary given that a new thread can be made if members wish to continue the discussion.

Not to mention there's the problem of which threads are saved. It's highly subjective, as interests in topic will greatly vary from member to member. Saving OOC threads based on importance is even more subjective, in all honesty. Especially when a new thread can be created. The ability to reply to threads in this board would also encourage bumping "dead" threads when we prefer that members begin a new thread if a significant amount of time has elapsed between the last response in a thread and a new post.
