Instead of you having to manually click the refresh button, could the page refresh it's self like every 1 minute or so?

You don't even have to click refresh, I'm pretty sure most systems use the Ctrl+R to refresh a page for Windows or Command+R for Macs. So their isn't really any point in adding an 'Auto-Refresh' if you can do it yourself by hitting two keys. Other than that, it's just creating more coding for the Coders to type. It could also be an annoyance if someone is typing something rather large and will take longer than a minute and so they may loose their work, which wouldn't be too helpful.

Forgot about the part if someone was typing. :o

But the setting to turn it on/off could be under "My preferences" setting.

Also, if you are using a computer, use F5. :)

Doesn't it seem like a bit of lag to refresh a page automatically every minute? I personally think hitting the F5 button would be a much better choice.

siler plate: An auto-refresh option, if turned on, would likely cause a very large strain on the forum servers; also, implementing such an option would take a lot of the forum coders' time. As Leumas and DragonYugi suggested, simply hit Ctrl+R/Command+R or the F5 button.

Why do you need this option, and how will it benefit this community? Also, as have been stated above, why not just use the these simpler options of refreshing rather than having the forum coders commit a large strain of work upon themselves? To add, if there was to be a refreshing button it would most likely work against the forum individual than "work with". It takes more than a minute to read certain pages, and if your are taking a peek at something closely relative to the Encyclopaedias of this forum, (which may take about several minutes to search for the item(s) you are looking for ) you wouldn't want a refreshed page every minute. New/Old forums also won't have the time to carefully know the rules, which is bad for us. Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't a larger strain on the servers cause you to refresh a page at a much slower rate? If so than this is a lose/lose situation. A bright idea but simply not worth the advantages:dis-vantages ratio.

Ashari -> RE: Refreshing the forum topic page your on (7/30/2010 21:39:06)

Auto-refreshing the forums would just waste a lot of bandwidth and add unnecessary strain on the website. I mean, I have the forum tabbed out all day, if it were to refresh by itself every minute, it would really just be a waste as I only check every ~10 minutes. This is really not needed, it's not hard to press a button or F5.
