Many times, a forum member may want to request a lock for her/his thread. When a thread maker's question has been sufficiently answered, a forum member may still continue to post, even when the character in person does not require anymore information regarding his/her question, which in turn can cause, flooding of a forum(which can slow down the progress of another thread). This can all happen before a moderator/ArchKnight has even realize that, the thread maker wishes to have his/her thread locked. What should be innovated to lower this situation is a, "request thread lock" button beside certain posts in certain sections. This may also prove to be helpful, "forum-wide".[sm=bgtup.gif]

Giving people the ability to lock their own thread in certain sections (Q&A boards come to mind) would probably help the situation.

Even if you do say something useful after the lock request has been made, the original poster usually does not come back to check his/her thread after they have received an answer. A PM is usually the only way to grab someones attention if you really need to tell them something extra about their question.

I'm not quite following this piece of your statement. Also, how exactly does this come into terms with my suggestion? I don't want be to crass about this but, the purpose of my thread is to find a way to reduce "After Lock Request Comments", and to expedite the procedure of which a lock is requested by the thread maker, not to increase the number of ALRC or perhaps, allowing the user to contact the thread maker by using some sort of personal contact system other than the PM system. Again, I'm greatly sorry if I'm being rude or acting in a way which would make any forum member uncomfortable.

Sorry for wording it poorly.

I meant, instead of having the OP request a lock (either by saying "Lock Requested" or by a Lock Request button, like you suggested), just give the OP the ability to lock his/her thread after their question has been answered. This would work well in the Q&A sections of each game. This would get rid of After Lock Request Comments as there would be no more lock requests by the OP, instead the OP would just lock his own thread after his question has been answered. You can't post in a locked thread anyways. [;)]

I only added my last sentence to show why ALR comments are generally ignored by OPs because they rarely check their thread again after they've gotten their answer. The PM system is the way to go if you have something extra to say.

It's also possible to just edit in a "Resolved" message at the end of the thread title. I'd imagine it would take a lot of work to code a "Lock Request" button, and the possible benefits seem limited. Also note that different Q&As have different lock preferences. In AQQ&A, threads are rarely, if ever locked.

A "lock your own threads" feature is both unfeasible and impractical. A quote from Sir Gnome from another thread:

Also, this creates a power issue. If members were given the right to lock their threads, they would also have the power to unlock them, thus allowing them to overrule the actions of a moderator/ArchKnight.

@The Forgotten, forum members post anyway, even if the issue is resolved, hence the example of forum members posting unnecessary added information, even after the thread maker requested. Also, about the coding part, I feel as though many forum suggestions are repeatedly being down-sized by this accusation. They have not been many suggestions thread talking about a implemention feature going without this comment. If this seemingly easy to code feature would be "hard" to code, that does not leave any room for any implemention features. Otherwise, most of these features should be hard code if they were to be considered helpful[:D].

You're not supposed to post after a lock is requested, unless it's to correct false information.
If you really really want your thread locked, you can PM an ArchKnight of that board.

As for self-locking, this doesn't provide a chance for correcting misinformation, along with The Forgotten's points.

I agree with @Verlyrus, nobody actually posts after a lock request unless they are adding important information to the answers, or correcting them.
