He Who Lurks -> Problem About Quoting Posts Rule (8/18/2010 18:08:55)

I fear that I'm a breaking a rule by quoting the post above me but I'm not sure whether or not certain circumstances are allowed. I only quoted part of it but I want to know full well, whether or not I have committed a act that is or isn't permitted by the staff of this forum.

AFAIK, quoting only part of a post is fine, i think it is rule breaking only IF you quote the whole post that is directly above you.

quote:

  • content that breaks any laws
  • copyright infringement (many MP3s, ROMs, etc.), warez, CD keys, cracks, passwords, serial numbers, etc.
  • gambling and drugs
  • hacking materials and information
  • selling AE Characters (property of Artix Entertainment, LLC.)
  • terrorism (promotion/carrying it through)
  • trojans, viruses, worms, and other such harmful things
  • Trick links
  • Pranking posts
  • Referral/recruitment links
  • Petitions both for offsite purposes and for AE-related goals
  • Advertising of any kind
  • Spam
  • Feedback or complaints that are not constructive or politely offered
  • Game .swfs or any unreleased content
  • Discussing abusable bugs or instructing others in how to exploit known bugs
  • Do not post spoilers without using the spoiler tags

  • The above are posts that staffs do not approve of or permit. As stated in =AE= Comprehensive Forum Rules
If you're quoting a person, I'm sure it's okay if you didn't quote the bad parts. And if you're going to reply, just make sure you're not complaining without constructive thoughts put together. As long as you don't flame or throw a really bad complaint to the person you're quoting, you should be fine.
For example, if a person said something really bad, like using profanities or flaming against someone, you can quote it but you're not allowed to flame back at them.
Nevermind, if a person is using profanity don't even quote it.
I may be able to answer your question clearly if I knew what your situation was, so sorry if I didn't answer your question.

EDIT: Or maybe what the AK above said is more correct.

Adding to what DigitalX said, if you are quoting the whole post directly above you but divided into separate quotes (e.g. so as to respond to each point made separately), it is also fine.
