LFAL -> AQW Q&A Problem (8/22/2010 17:02:01)

i keep getting this message when i go there with the "show only threads i contributed to"
quote:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e31'

Timeout expired

/f/tt.asp, line 319

is there any way to fix this?

Thread name edited to make it clearer. -Kain

DragonYugi -> RE: aqw Q&A (8/22/2010 17:07:19)

As much as it might sound weird, despite it saying it is a SQL Server error, it is not.

It doesn't give me that message but I got weird errors in certain ocasions too so... Try clearing your Cache and try again.

coolboypai -> RE: aqw Q&A (8/22/2010 17:34:49)

perhaps thats the problem for you

LFAL -> RE: aqw Q&A (8/22/2010 22:10:38)

He Who Lurks -> RE: aqw Q&A (8/23/2010 17:26:02)

It may have something to do with your connection string. I'm not sure what's happening on your side, but you may want to view the following links below.

* Link 2

EDIT:I can't do much sadly[:(] but I can provide you with a bit more information with what you are dealing with.

this is still happening has anyone found a way to fix it? T_T

Abraska -> RE: aqw Q&A (8/26/2010 23:53:10)

I believe it's because you have too many posts within a certain amount of time in that forum. I've had this problem before and I don't post that often (about 2 or 3 posts a day). I usually solve it by limiting my searches to the last 60 or 30 days. The other method is simply post very few posts.

The thing is, the forum search function isn't terribly efficient and it takes awhile when you have so many posts. So your browser thinks something's wrong when it takes that long to load another page (thus the "timeout expired").

Why am I on this forum? I dunno. I just know that you should have a good one. Lolz.

LFAL -> RE: aqw Q&A (8/27/2010 16:35:00)

that might explain it... i posted about 1100 times in aqw Q&A.

Jonzee Boy -> RE: aqw Q&A (8/27/2010 22:15:54)

I don't think that is the answer, I've posted way more then you in the Q&A and I've never ever had that happen to me. I remember seeing a question like this a while ago but for a different board, I believe it is something to do with your computer if I recall.

Abraska -> RE: aqw Q&A (8/27/2010 23:46:38)

@Jonzee Boy: Yeah, that is it but I didn't want to mention it because the solution is a lot more complex, haha. Like I said, your browser doesn't like waiting that long for the forum to collect all your posts and gives up about a minute in. To solve it, you have to go and do some scary (and I mean scary) scripting in your computer to extend the timeout length. See this page for details. You don't have to do this if the forum is somehow really fast for you. It is not for me and since I don't like scripting, I just limit my searches to 60 or 30 days.

Actually, there's probably a smarter and more efficient way to solve this but I'll just go with the easy way.

@dash143: Welcome to the forums. You'll want to ask your question in the actual AQW Q&A AQW Q&A. Be sure to read the rules first.

Have a good one.

Captain Rhubarb -> RE: aqw Q&A (8/30/2010 17:16:50)

Where is the ""show only threads i contributed to" option?
I can't find that in our forum?

And the error message is indeed related to a database server timeout.
Either too many results are found, or it's taking the forum database server too long to find them all.

Avantir -> RE: aqw Q&A (8/30/2010 17:24:00)

@Captain Rhubarb-Near the top right hand corner of the screen you should see "Filter: <Dropdown menu here>" Click on the dropdown menu and at the bottom it will say "Show threads I contributed to".

Edit: That option is only shown in forum sections, not in the actual threads or areas where you select a section. I'm not sure if that's understandable... Just go to a Q/A section and look for it.
