CR -> Flash ^^ (8/31/2010 20:06:27)

Okay, I have a suggestion. It's a new function for the forums, that would go along with the "quote" and "link" and "color" buttons. Youknow, the BBCode bar.

It is the capability to host flash files on the site, or just be able to show them. Like using the image tags, you'd put [flash][/flash] or such, and put the link to a .swf or .fla in the middle, and tada, you have my suggestion ^^. I think it would be a good idea because for somebody who uses flash (Such as myself), it would increase the capabilities and customization on the forums.

That's all, I guess. :P

Merci,

Embedding swf's also allows for any user-defined code to run actively on pages of the forums, and as such, it could pose a security issue that could not be controlled by forum staff.

Hmm, true... But would a .swf be able to affect the forums? And would there really be people using the feature solely to use bad codes? I mean, I don't see many bad people around these forums :\.

The quick answer is yes to both.

Swf's can execute code, show images and animation, play sound, and allow for user interaction like any executable program can. Swf's also can hold video, which (if they weren't prevented from loading) could be incredibly large and slow your internet speed or crash your browser. From a security standpoint alone, swf's would be allowed to be embedded into the forums - aren't many of the flash player updates meant to fix security holes that have been discovered?

I see what you're saying, but lag and browser crashing isn't really what I meant by affecting the forums. Can a .swf file do anything potentially dangerous to the forums? Like hack it, or such?

But I do see your point, and I guess thinking that everyone would use the feature correctly and at the discretion of others is unrealistic. Unless there is more to discuss, this can be locked ^^
