He Who Lurks -> More Helpfuls (9/11/2010 13:23:50)

They are many members of this forum who are yet to obtain the title "Helpful", and yet users who have 300 posts, and barely are active get picked to be Helpfuls. I could name many members who should be awarded a title for their outstanding service in which the boards they work in. A title should be a way for which the lower-tier member can make a detailed assessment on which members are quite influential to the boards they help in. For example, what about allowing helpfuls to customize or create a variation of the helpful title; Such as Epicly Helpful(EpicDuel variation), Guardian Apprentice(AQ variation), Mecha Repairer(MechQuest variation), etc. Another idea could be that Helpfuls or certain members can receive a preselected list of titles special based upon the boards they work in.

Helpfuls may receive a customised title if Circe considers they are helpful enough to have such a title.

As for the current way of giving away titles it depends on some factors.

First of all, there must be someone (ArchKnight or Moderator) who actually notices the respective person.

Second of all, the respective person has to have a clean or at least somewhere near clean record - as in have no warnings or if he has warnings, they would be minor and expired.

Either way, the titles are solely given on what Circe and the others think. Because while a person is helpful he might be so just for the sake of a title.

With this being said, it is a nice way to reward certain members but the people who truly help without wanting a title are left behind for the ones who help only for a title.

Now, I don't want anyboy to think that I am against or consider that the staff's decisions on who gets them is wrong but... Some people go over their head in friendliness and helpfulness but they have jobs and such and can't be so active.

well getting a title is more than just the number of posts
its about what actually goes into the posts
someone with 300 posts may have spent them in a Q&A section, posting with detailed answers
whereas someone with 2000 post may have just been hanging around in the OOC section

and I think that having specific titles is kinda pointless
just having 'helpful' is enough IMO

Post count doesn't mean everything. It's easy to accumulate a ton of posts without really helping anyone.

I feel fine with Helpful! remaining the standard. Many people that have it contribute to more than one board and probably play most of the AE games. The title shouldn't be seen as limiting a person to only helping out on just one forum, like being limited to the MQ forum for Mecha Repairer. Having strange titles might also just confuse new users too. At least now, if the title includes some form of "helpful", "friendly" or "contructive" in it, new posters know that that is a person they can trust.

As for my title, I guess it's a bit of an exception since a lot of my forum activity was (and still is over at the ED boards). It probably just depends what mood Circe is when she hands out titles to someone. [;)]

As Ashari has said, post count doesn't always have to be the verdict that gets someone a title.

Periodically, threads are deleted or purged, thus taking posts away from members' counts. Activity is important, and if someone has been active, contributing and rule abiding, we will catch it.

Part of each head mod's duties is to keep an eye out for potential titles. It's actually a fun part of the job. I love the moment when I can bestow a title on someone. But, we are very careful with how we give them out. A title is earned. If I see someone in Legends and Lore that is going above and beyond a normal member's activity, or an OOCer that is polite, contributing and friendly, I will not hesitate to title them.

It also worth mentioning that if you think there's a user who really deserves a title but hasn't received one, you can always PM the head moderator of whatever board they frequent and recommend that user with an explanation of why you think they should get a title. Suggestions are not guaranteed to be accepted but they can be made and might make a difference.
