Khelios -> =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 1:10:27)

Well, the gallery went under a giant renovation that spanned the scope of its very existence.

Actually. A few things happened:

A) Approved Artist requirements to post in the gallery were removed entirely. The Approved Artist usergroup will be disappearing shortly.

B) Galleries are now the Showcase, and have discussion threads in the Artistic Discussion boards because they are post-only. Yes, this means that you have to edit the first post with new art and unfortunately, this makes it much harder to run joint galleries.

C) A new Cafe has been opened for more generalized discussions on art.

D) The layout changed. And there are some wicked descriptions and rules that you may want to check out. Like Mona Lisa and grilled cheese I think, that's one.

Anyways, feel free to post any questions you have and we'll try to answer them all in a timely manner :)

Some things to note:

PM's directed towards us regarding "we hate the changes, they stink" will be ignored as they serve no purpose and are not constructive. If you wish to express why you do not like something and provide constructive, alternate reasons, you are welcome to PM those. And that does not mean you can say "bring back the old Gallery." Before you send any pm's with reasons of why things should be changed, I encourage you to give the gallery a shot. If make an honest effort to try it and don't like it, then that's much different than just disliking change.

Q) Wow, the changes are complicated and I don't understand why you made things harder. WHY?

A) Yes, the layout is different, the need for both a Showcase thread and Artistic Response thread seems redundant, and it's not what it was. Things were changed around to make the gallery more open.

The Showcase thread does not allow responses to it because it is meant to showcase your art - you don't have to show every piece there (you can if you want), but for those who actually are looking at your art and what you are offering, it is much easier to look at one post than navigate through ten pages or more of posts to see what is happening.

The Artistic Responses thread is the gallery commentary moved to a different board - but why is that necessary? First, it prevents spamming in the actually gallery thread, which is meant to showcase your work. Second, it may appear to be more complicated, sure, but ultimately it's just clicking a link to the main gallery to view a thread and comment on it. If you have the gallery and comment threads linked, then it's really not that much of a step to get from one thread to the other.

If you think it's too complicated, try it out. It really isn't that big of an inconvenience should you consider it one, it's highly trivial. There is a plan behind the layout of the boards, and we didn't make them haphazardly for no reason.

Q) How will Joint Galleries work? Can they even exist?

A) Oh certainly, you're still able to make joint galleries, but keep in mind that only one person will be able to edit the gallery.

Borq -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 1:23:08)

For those who didn't save the content on their galleries (like me, unfortunately), would it be possible to have the previous gallery section be opened up for a short time? I've forgotten my links.
An archive of the previous state of the gallery would be nice, even if only up for a short amount of time.

Can you please PM me the name of your gallery? ~Khelios

Sora To Hoshi -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 1:57:43)

Ok so let me see if Im following this, we post what we make in our Gallery threads which will be showcase only and then make a thread in the Artistic Discussion area for feedback? And we have one thread there as well to cover our Showcase thread. I think I got it.

Im interested to see how this is going to work, I might wait a while before bringing my gallery back online (thankfully I did save mine XD) to see how this whole thing works.

PyroPuppy -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 8:19:24)

Lets check if I understood this, you make a gallery in the showcase area, post a thread in artistic responses if you want to get CnC, and post in the cafe if you just want to discuss about art, got this right? Also, the Signature and Art Request zone just changed its name to the Art Commissions or there are some more changes? Edit: I have that animated banner, that is in the limits of 600*800 pixels, is it ok to use it? Also, the rules doesn't have anything about file size, unlike before, does that means that I can show any 3 pictures no matter what is the file size?

To all your questions above, the answer is yes. Your banner can be posted as long as it isn't flashing or incredibly large in file size. The Showcase rules were updated to allow ten images (around 500*100, around 50kb - general signature size) ~Khelios

Zodiak 15 -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 8:26:13)

For shops does this mean we have to make a new one from scratch? Like the old ones wont be recovered?

Unfortunately shops cannot be recovered. Sorry! ~Khelios

Zakristone -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 8:37:56)

So now all the Sig shops have to be remade and people will have to re-request...?

Yes. The gallery got wiped - unfortunately that includes the Sig shops. ~Khelios

StormCrow -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 10:47:46)

    *Blinks*

    This is going to get some time to get used to xD Must have been a lot of work.
    Interesting.. So the whole thing is a bit like Legends and Lore now, huh? This definitely does make the gallery less cluttered – so it’d be easier to view the artist’s work.

    And since there is no approved artists restriction, a lot more people would come to CA. It was the right thing to do – the Gallery has been so inactive due to people being so busy.. And there are so many talent out there in the Battleon Community - just look at the Ae art contests. I did a little checking and saw that many of the authors of some of the most amazing entries hadn’t gotten themselves approved. We never got the chance to see their art. The prospect of being approved can be a little intimidating, I guess. To tell the truth, I myself had been a bit daunted by that when I first entered this part of the forum. But it was a really nice way to learn how to critique art.

    One thing, though. I remember in the old Gallery, with the approval thread there being a few seriously great guides on giving feedback on artwork. I’ll be really glad to see them stickied on Artistic Responses. They’d be of so much help to anyone new here. Scratch that – everyone here. If someone does not show proper tact or etiquette when commenting on an artwork.. it could lead to potential disagreements. So it might be a good idea to still have them up.

    I think I have those saved somewhere, if they're not already up, I'll look for them. ~Khelios

Hallie Slidepath -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 11:01:09)

Wow, this sounds quite awesome. Will take a while to get used to, but that doesn't make it less great.
I've been looking forward to a change in The Gallery and this seems like a giant step in the right direction ^^

Black321 -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 14:59:17)

Why must you make changes that ruin the good?

This is disguising, you have to leave one forum to another to comment on a THREAD in the original forum. What happens to people with Galleries like "Z man" who won't get viewed? Honestly you totally wasted time with this that you could have spent fixing avatars AE.

Hallie Slidepath -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 15:08:04)

^What was good about the old Gallery?

quote:

What happens to people with Galleries like "Z man" who won't get viewed?

IMO that sounds like remains of the old Gallery. Names you don't recognize, people you don't know... you don't check that out.
Give it a week and I think that this solution could be somewhat more functional, fair and equal than the "if you're my friend and kiss my ring I might be nice in return" kind of system we ended up having before.

Black321 -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 15:21:32)

No it's in alphabetical order. It could be made by someone like _Dep who everyone knows here, and it would be at the very bottom, last page. SO they don't get viewed. This is stupid-- plus no links anymore? Hate to break it, but there's gonna be at least 10 resources every six months that won't come back. And the resources dying? That's not fun.

Hallie Slidepath -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 15:31:54)

^The response-forum = the forum where you actually comment, isn't in Alphabetic order. If you're an active artist and keep your comment thread alive with notes when your showcase is updated there's no reason for you to be "pused out of view". It works the same way as The Gallery used to, just that the showcase is kept in a seperate forum in which the showcases are listed alphabetically after the forum-name of the artist. That shouldn't affect the number of views your gallery/showcase gets.

Artemisia -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 15:56:34)

I personally find the changes rather refreshing. Sure, the galleries are in alphabetical order and such, but I find that also to be interestingly organized, and this is coming from someone who has their name starting with X. Keeping the galleries in order like an encyclopedia provides people an easy way of finding the exact artist that they wish to see, and not having to randomly dig through multiple pages. If they want to comment their art, there is a thread for that as well, but the ability of it being optional is ideal for some that are sensitive to any form of criticism. The new sections keep everything organized, and organization helps people have a more satisfying experience in this new gallery setup. Or, that is what I make of it, at very least.

coolboypai -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 17:47:11)

nice new changes!
like them alot, and the comments section is nice (reminds me of the L&L section)
hopefully the gallery will revive much of its lost life with the renovations

only problem i think is the alphabetical listing...
though its much more organized, people with names starting with x or sumthing will get pushed back by all the newcomers....
I kinda liked the previous listing as it showed which galleries were active and popular...

Khelios -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 18:29:22)

If you're not willing to honestly try the new system before providing your opinion, please don't make make sweeping generalizations that it's terrible because it's different. Yes it's changed from what it has been, but that alone isn't a reason to hate it.

TreadLight -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 19:13:02)

These changes are surprisingly great. Very good choice, dorgs.

Black321 -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/15/2010 19:17:18)

My point was deleted why?

I can still see it, and you know it, it's dumb not to be able to comment in the gallery. Sure it's a bright idea to have it made into just a Gallery, but it ruins the fun and work people did to get IN to the gallery.

Zodiak 15 -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/16/2010 8:10:14)

^^it makes the gallery more accessible to users who otherwise wouldnt be able to participate. I do wish that we had more of a say in the matter. I know we're not the mods but i think a discussion couldve been opened up before all this happened. Ultimately i think it will make the gallery more user friendly and active. By the way khelios were the sig shop owners notified that the change was coming at all? Alot of people just signed on to see their shops gone

Smalls -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/17/2010 17:31:31)

I just have like one question...For the CnC threads, can you double post to post your update? That's like my only question....I like the new setup though, it seems like more people will get comments easier...It is more organized also. The change gets my approval (even though it's not worth anything :P)

Yes, you can double post for an update.

Jamenja -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (9/18/2011 15:22:59)

I was wondering if it was possible to get access to a old gallery, I recently returned to the game and I'm curious as to what I put into my gallery. But the problem being that the link I have in my signature is no longer valid. If it helps the gallery name is if I recall correctly "[EDIT] Legends of BoreDOOM" or something similar.

Alpha Atom -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (10/8/2011 4:16:45)

Sorry, it is not possible, all the records of it, as far as I know, are gone. Sorry about that :/

Jamenja -> RE: =CA= WOAH what just happened here?! (10/11/2011 15:06:08)

Oh ok, that kinda sucks, off to a scavenged hunt on different image sites. Thanks your reply though.
